>>35910987I have been telling for years that Game Freak declaring "been in development since X" means nothing because from a developer's point of view development time also count pre-production, which may take a year or more (some games have taken almost a decade). Pre-production is when they conceptualize, write and draw which could involve even trips to the places they want to recreate. They aren't gonna program something they aren't sure they will use unless they really need to test (and for that there's stock and old assets unless is something overly specific). People would rather just think that Game Freak are highly incompetent and hold on the hope that they aren't rushing the games.
The last two gens aren't exactly broken or badly programmed, they are just highly unpolished and feel like something that was put together in a year. I'm not saying they are flawless (the do have some oddities and Gen 5 and below where they had more time and less stress due to working with simple graphics also had oddities) but they are still the work of people who know what they are doing. I'm glad there's confirmation, but it's such a shame and also makes me sad.
>>35911252>>35911228Game Freak acts as if they are the ONLY devs which such preassure over their shoulders. Sakurai gets a lot of trolls over Smash, Square Enix got for a long time for XIII-Versus/XV and now for FFVII remake. Itsuno and Capcom for DMCV. Pokemon has a huge amount of side-media and merch to stay relevant which none of these games have. I don't get why they are so scared of their fanbase and bend to their will when they have no competition. Final Fantasy is nowhere near and not even comparable with the sales of Dragon Quest and they compete with Tales of and yet SE isn't scared. There are a lot of character action games to compete with DMC. And before someone says Yokai Watch, is dead. The hype only lasted like a year and the reboot was shit.
