I studied the trap tile generation, for instance, and understanding how the traps seem to generate (never near items, never right in front of a hallway, etc) was actually a big help for a lot of harder dungeons. The only mons I've ever maxed out are my partner and I, though.
Also I have 100k+ words of stories and shit written for it so I'm pretty sure I'm probably the bigger whacko here lolSomething about it just manages to feel "right" on so many levels, and it's always easy and hard to explain why both at the same time. So much so that I bought a second copy used just to play through it again whenever I felt like going through the story another time.
