a couple ideas from an old design doc related to a fangame i was working on
Battle Studio:
>Hosted inside a dance studio, this facility requires participants to ‘go along with the rhythm’
>The rhythm switches every 3 turns. During a given rhythm, moves of only 6 types can be used. Moves of any other type will fail.
>Curse will be retyped as a Ghost-Type move in game
Battle Stadium
>A revamped version of the battle dome. Features UCL/World Cup-style 32-man competition with a group stage+knockouts.
>For the sake of ergonomics, the player can take a break at any time in the ‘Stadium Cup’ and resume in his same spot, with the same team. In addition to this, the frontier brain is fought during the final of the 3rd Stadium Cup
Battle Island
>Traverse the island and find the ‘sacred statue’ within a time limit
>The sacred statue is held by a trainer
>Beating trainers who do not hold the statue gives the player ‘Island Karma’, this can be used to do things like open doors or purchase healing from a guide. The player can also get IK from talking to friendly NPCs on the island who don’t battle.
>The frontier brain is the statue holder in the third Island trial [and sixth] and resides in a large temple that isn’t open during other trials. If the player goes to the temple during one of the ‘brain trials’, he’ll see the door is glowing and requires a lot of IK to pass. NPCs also hint that something important is in there
