>>36170279The problem is they're doing this at the expense of the audience that continuously supports the series.
LGPE is going to sell gangbusters, this is fact, but the LGPE audience will NOT buy Gen 8, and on the flip side, the people who LGPE does not appeal to are now less likely to get Gen 8 due to Gamefreak having pissed this audience off more than once. We have never seen so many people be so vocal about their distaste for Masuda and GF as a whole.
>>36170161>>Although, it is kind of weird seeing the young adults who would be part of later generations getting wet over LGPE for being gen 1, much less Go's popularity among the same group.I've been trying to figure this out and I think this is just because they're kids and it's a new Pokemon game, Gen 1 pandering doesn't play as big a role here as brand recognition does.
>I'd rather them make interesting new content that intersects with old characters in a meaningful way than just rehash old shit.I think this is the most damning thing about LGPE. No one HATES Kanto, we're tired of it, yes, but if LGPE were a full on Kanto remake/sequel built from the ground up I'm certain the reaction would be way different.
The fact is that Gamefreak is pushing their money maker (GO) on an extremely safe platform (Kanto) and going for an audience that is not in it for the long term. This is a smart business play for selling Switches in 2018, but a horrible business plan for the Pokemon franchise as it moves forward. If Gen 8 isn't like, THE fucking Pokemon game, I wouldn't be suprised if a decent chunk of the Pokemon fanbase actually moves on to Digimon/YW or just stops buying Pokemon altogether.
At the very least, there's a chance Masuda will take the criticism to heart and stop pushing all this Kanto shit on us.
