Interesting that as far as catching Pokemon goes, Goh and Gary are very similar. Upon visiting Oak's lab during Indigo, Ash learned that Gary had caught an immense amount of Pokemon in a short time, with shelves being lined with Poke Balls. These are all Pokemon Gary captured from the wild, placed in Poke Balls, and left them there for an indefinite amount of time.
But when Goh captures nearly 100 Pokemon, gives them a new home and community, and spends hours a day feeding and playing with them, he's somehow a sociopath while Gary is 'based'. Senseless. At the end of the day, Goh is more similar to Gary than he is to Ash, in terms of skill and progression. While some think it's 'unfair' for Goh to become adept at catching and even pretty good at battling, that's exactly what Gary did in OS. He's a prodigy, like Gary. Ash's progression was extremely slow and should not be considered the basis for how other characters should grow.
