I'm a newfag to the anime side of things, but I was heavily into the game side of Pokemon during the Gen 3-Gen 4 era. I mean into the games as in "just south of drawing my own Nuzlocke comic when that blew up." I know there's a huge divide between the gaming and anime side of things, but I remember even the gaming people dogging on the anime during that period. Like people hated how disjointed the anime was from the games, and especially how much of a Mary Sue Ash and May were with how bullshit the battles in AG were. The gaming part of the community wanted an anime that was an adaptation of the games, probably until Pokemon Origins proved us wrong. I have a much more positive opinion of the anime now than then, but just coming from that side, things were rough. I didn't know "aura" was from the anime, I just thought it was some dumb fanfic shit, like Ash Betrayal, or using Maple as May's last name.
