The anime lost it's soul when it went full digital. AG-BW is probably the most sterile, formulaic and lifeless the anime has ever been and people only like them because that's what the majority of this board, full of 18-25 year olds, grew up on.
XY was shit for gunning for the shonen audience, and now there's an entire section of people who unironically self inserted as Ash and will seethe about Alain till the end of time, worst fanbase by far.

SM is when the anime got it's soul back much to the chagrin of the DP/XY "ash is a super edgy badass" fanbase. JN was okay but still above gens 3-5.
Lastly and most importantly, OG was only good because of the dub, the anime in JP loses a lot of its charm and exposes it for what it really is, a long commercial only memorable because it was in place before all the corporation mandates reined the writers in.

Yes, I did watch the OS when it first aired. It's aged horribly. I'd place SM above it if not for the fact I can't even look at Ash, Pikachu or the TRio because of how ugly the art style is.

Nope Ash got reset in XY SM JN MPM and arguably in AG DP as well and maybe even Johto if you want to stretch it. Also Ash isn't good enough to take out bad guys it takes more than strength to hunt down criminals

DP had a plot device with legendary Pokemon, BW reset him and XY&Z was too weak willed & spineless to pick Ash over Alain.

no that was also Johto, AG, DP, BW, XY, SM, JN, and MPM. All of them reset Ash into a different person and also reset all his skill so he couldn't be champion

But he maintained his skill, competent, maturity except for BW series.

Because BW was the only series to reset him, XY Ash was still competent and skilled. SM Ash and Pikachu nearly soloed everything.

Funny you mention this, Im watching a podcast of a bunch of normie youtubers and they just got around to AG and they IMMEDIATELY write off May as a soulless Misty clone. They give her such little thought it was genuinely kind of frustrating to listen to because normally I like these guys

In retrospect why was Misty's departure such an uproar in the west? She left only 5 years into the series, a large chunk of the fanbase had already stopped watching halfway into Johto, etc. What was it about Misty leaving that caused people to lose their minds?

It's not even like Misty completely disappeared either, she got frequent cameos and specials all throughout AG to let people know she would still appear from time to time (at least back then).

No, there is no "Ashs personality" The ep was more nostalgia b8 that no boomers even watched. it was a nothing burger that was gone the very next ep.
Ash has had 5 personalities throughout the series OS, AG-DP(the best one), BW, XY, and SM-JN.

they bring back an old personality for 1 ep and still not keeping it for the whole of MPM just shows that either they don't care or only see the ep as nothing more than cheap nalsagia gains.

looking back I can not believe just how fucking bad MPM was I'm glad no one watched it, not even the Boomers skipped Thursday night football to tune-in
