It felt more like a forced transition to me, I know she became champion in the unova sequels, but in the anime she was her own character with her own goal that she feels she hasn't reached yet in the same vein as how Ash views his goal, Sure she gets to be champion, but by extension she is the first champion to be defeated by Ash, and then again by Cynthia come the masters 8, which really makes me ask what the point was, just like bringing Alain back to hardly have him interact with Ash (and of course no AG vs MCX rematch...though if that was gonna happen it should've been out of the tourmament) where exactly is this vindication if her only purpose is to lose?
I also feel like her freedom as a character was taken from her by forcing her to be champion.
