Richie should be champion of Kanto, Casey the Chikorita girl should be champion of Johto, Morrison for Hoenn, Paul or Tobias for Sinnoh, Iris for Unova, probably keep Alain for Kalos, and for Galar, maybe instead of keeping Leon have it be Hop who has an Urshifu and maybe Zamazenta and/or Calyrex (basically taking the place of the game protag).
Also because Ash has a mythical and an Ultra beast, the rest should have at least one sub legendary or mythical too. In particular Morrison having one of the new Regis and Richie having a galarian legendary bird would be a good fit for them and be a good way to shill gen 8 dlc.
Ash beats Paul/Tobias or Alain in the first round, showing how much he has grown, beats Iris in round 2 as the heated battle between former best friends. Last round is Ash vs Hop, everything coming down to Pikachu vs Dubwool after all of the other pokemon have been knocked out.
