>>51474774The translation of that quote is "This is the comic that most resembles the world I was trying to convey." That's it, there's not even an interview. This is a quote they stuck in the cover of the mangas but it doesn't really say much. It's not comparing it to the games nor the anime, it just says it in the context of the mangas.
And no, that is not the context of the interview.
https://lavacutcontent.com/tajiri-tsunekazu-ishihara-interview/Here they're talking about the anime and other things and the talking meowth is talked about which is where I got that quote.
But most telling is Tajiri's own official biography released in 2018. Here are the panels detailing the birth of Pokémon from the capsule monsters concept and Sugimori and Tajiri discussing what Pokémon are, which tajiri imagines wild and domesticated animals in his talk with Sugimori. But even more telling is the following pages with him imagining Pokémon battles as two dog owners going on a walk and allowing their dogs to fight, further cementing the pet angle for Pokémon just after the page where he says Pokémon are like cats and dogs.
This is all from official sources including one that was released about four years ago. Satoshi Tajiri included that for a reason and again you have to put it in context with the late Takeshi Shudo blog and the 2012 product guide. It all comes together to form a coherent image.
