>>43959706>It's a lot of convoluted plotssuch as?

(there are btw but if you think they're "everywhere" then you're making a few up)
>>43959784shonen is not a genre and DB didn't create it
>>43959362dragon ball didn't create wuxia tropes either
>>43960138As its wasn't written by someone who particularly cared about action and more about silly fun, the setting ended up being vague enough so there are few/none established rules that limit what can go on making it more varied that other more thought out ones. Same with the characters, as the story wasn't planned the characters grow in non-standard ways so while the story is never super consistent in the long run (Toriyama is more of a short story writer), where the characters go is not as predictable as one would expect. For instance in Naruto, the main character has a goal so as soon as chapter 1 you know the final chapter/arc will be about the character either achieving said goal(or how/why he wont), DB doesn't have such things. Characters are also introduced with little to no backstory and most of their characterization and drama is a result of their actions within the story, not a backstory to be solved. Those are widely some of the appeals of the writing without going into specific details. Essentially, its a ridiculous story that completely shits upon what western adults consider "good writing".
Then you have a great anime adaptation with addictive fast-paced fights and excellent dramatic OST and a few sakuga moments here and there.
And, of course, its fun.
