Answering my own side topic, I gotta dive into Southern Cavern for three Larvitar. Got fucked over last night, a Cubone I had just recruited ate it to Magnitude, and I had no reviver seeds for it. Thank fuck the Geodudes can't use Selfdestruct ever.

Escorts for the last floors of Purity Forest have the best rewards, though.

They're all difficulty 15 (and 16? although that probably caps at 15), which gives 2000 points; an amount that is otherwise never given.

You're better off taking "find X item near floor 92 of Buried Relic" since you can enter with the item, Escape Orb out, and get the easiest 700 points or so ever.

Ok /tr/ainers, finally egg hatched. Mission was either in Crevice Cave or Blizzard Island, I don't remember. Checked which pokemons can be recruited there and guess what? Slakoth evolution can be recruited in Crevice Cave, and I got Slakoth from egg. If this repeats few times in a row, we'll be sure that egg always gives one of pokemons recruitable in the dungeon you're doing the mission in.

I also saved before hatching the egg and restarted. Pokemon is always the same, but egg moves are random. This makes getting pokemons with your desired egg moves much easier. Most likely all you have to do is:
>take ??? reward missions from dungeon that spawns pokemon you want
>get egg
>do missions till the day of hatching
>restart to get egg move you want

Or just enter the dojo with no items, select Give Up, and check the Day Care. It's even better since the dojo is literally 30 feet from Chansey

Just don't take Phanpy or Eevee. You're basically forced to evolve them in the postgame due to those tiny movesets, and evolving your starters in PMD just feels wrong.

Don't count on Blizzard at all. I spent a ton of time looking for a Blizzard TM. At long last, I found one in a wall, used it on Wooper, and felt crushing disappointment when I found out it's garbage. It hits 1 space in front of you, it's more or less an ultra rare Ice Punch instead of the room clearer it is in Sky.

I took Mudkip/Cyndaquil this run, and promptly abandoned them for said Wooper in the postgame

Blizzard is one of the few moves that got changed in Explorers.

Also, I am fairly sure that Rapid Spin does not remove Spikes in Rescue. Or I fucked up.

I don't know if my math is right, but at a 16.9% recruit rate, for every pokemon spawned, each one is about a 0.05% chance for it to be the Chansey you'll be recruiting. That's 1/2000 chance for a spawned mon on floor 50 to be the recruited Chansey. Not only this, but you have a limited time to recruit one before the wind blows you out or hunger kills you.

Getting a shiny in XY's Friend Safari is a 1/512 chance. You would get 3 shinies on average in the time it takes you to recruit ONE Chansey. And you need to do this twice, while everything is trying to kill you, including the dungeon itself.

That is, of course, if my math is right.

you have nearly 4x the chance of getting a shiny in the FS than a spawned mon being the Chansey that'll join you. It's closer to 4 shinies, but with encounters taking longer in the main games, i just said 3. I'm no expert on math, and I just did this all on a calculator in like 2 minutes.

Regardless, the point I was trying to make was how abysmal your chances are, and that you're better off with Jirachi twice.

Well, I am killing myself by these things:
1. Watching an old episode of Pokémon when our dubbing was shit (Indigo League; it got a little better into Johto and the first season of Hoenn which we dubbed. Then they hired a decent team for Sinnoh onwards, which shows.) For reference, Water Gun was Water Whip, Parlyz Heal was Healing Gas, Flamethrower was Fire Tornado, Thunderstone was Stony, Thunder Thundering Stone... you know where this is going. One of the few translations that were good was Moon Stone, oddly enough.
2. Stun Spore made Bulbasaur unable to fight. EARLY ANIME, MAN.
3. Buffering is rather slow with ads.
4. Ads that buffer. Why even these exist.

What's worse is they don't let you recruit from Tiny Woods for NO good reason. Not a one of those pokemon are even good fully evolved and yet you gotta go to Wish Cave and Joyous Tower for a fucking Sunkern and Wurmple.

Wind blew three times on 14f, the only floor with exeggcute, didn't see a single one.

I think the problem is that missions are no longer randomly generated.

Plus, I am fairly sure the things are more reasonable in Explorers.

Fun fact: Some Pokémon in Explorers appear only after you're entirely done with plot. As in, Manaphy tells you about Marine Resort. Like Dusknoir; because plot reasons.

There was some satisfaction had in recruiting mons, but some of it was just fucking HORRIBLE. there's no excusing these encounter rates.

Next game should have something like the Orb, but allow dungeon recruits and randomly generated missions.

Things are more reasonable in Explorers mostly because of not having to finish the dungeon to complete recruitment, and allowing recruitment with a full team. And also not having bullshit locations for shitmons.

Also random fact I just found: The strongest non-major Trainer's Pokémon is a Magikarp. It appears in Japanese and Korean GSC, as well as all versions of HGSS, where it is Level 58 and 65, respectively; being beaten only by rematch Blue and Lance, as well as Red.

Ended up testing this out myself. If you use a Truant Wand the Harsh Sunlight gets put on a timer, once it goes away you can set up whatever weather you want. I Hydro Pumped Groudon twice after that and it was over.

So Destiny Tower decided to give me a big "fuck you" by giving me a Monster House with Mantines, Unburden Drifblims,and something that used Gravity. I wasted a good 10-12 Reviver Seeds. I don't know what I was supposed to do there, I just kept getting Hydro Pumped while missing the Minimized Drifblims blocking me, Apparently Stayaway Wands and Warp wands have no effect under Gravity. Im on floor 44 now, but with 2 Reviver Seeds left Im not sure how much further I can make it. Gotta love Mystery Dungeon games man.

The game or the story?

I liked most of the changes though I miss things like IQ and probably will miss being able to make a permanent team with my fav mon due to vacation thing. I'm not sure about the recruitment method though, it's straightforward but I'm fearing what will happen later when I recruit everyone.

As for the story, well, it's got me a lot involved and I felt with was on part with previous PMDs (I skipped Gates though). What really caught me off-guard was losing the partner at the end when it was like 4AM here and I just wanted to finish the main story to sleep happily. Slept with a fucking weight on me, but glad to have him back.

Also it might be me but this game feels much harder than EoS, I'm having to rely much more on items. Especially the two last bosses. Mega TTar used like 3 Reviver Seeds, and even lost once to Yveltal because Serperior would get OHKO'd by Oblivion Wing every time, though it was a breeze the second time with the correct items, no Reviver Seeds spend. But holy shit. I'm even afraid of battling expeditions it feels like everything hits like a truck kek.

Chespin is probably the best starter overall because of its fantastic movepool, but it never hurts to have a partner with other ranged attacks to help snipe. Water types and Fennekin (psybeam) are good options.
There's a wondermail code list in the OP as well that contains TMs you can get, so you can get ice beam, energy ball and maybe flamethrower pretty early on if you want?

Best one since Sky. As for difficulty, you just need to git gud with items. Farm at Pelipper island if you must. My setup was Totodile/Fennekin and Fennekin in particular was good because she started with PSYBEAM. Very nice move to have alongside ember.

There's wands to petrify, put to sleep, show stars, etc, there's a lot of them similarly to Orbs, but they go in a straight line instead, and they affect your partners if they're in front of you. The thing is they stack like Rocks/Sticks so you can have a lot of them.

The ending really was an emotional gut-punch. Mystery Dungeon always gets me and I let my guard down.

The game was definitely MUCH harder. Yveltal took me a dozen tries and I had to abuse the "give up" option to take down the final boss - you start right before it and all the damage you did remains. Thanks random gamefaqs guy who told me this while I was looking for strategies in desperation to avoid watching 5 minutes of cutscenes for the 10th time.
Battling expeditions are no problem if you just bring an orb or two. Totter Orb is my friend.

I'm just about to fight Dark Matter in SMD.
I'm actually kind of disappointed. The gameplay is good but all the dungeons so far are really shallow, Tree of Life is no Temporal Tower. And the story isn't as great IMO.

Yeah, the final dungeon is really lackluster compared to...every other final dungeon in the series, probably because it's so darn short.
The final boss more than makes up for it by being a fun fight. Just be aware that it changes types after it does a certain attack and you'll be fine.

Wow that's a lot. I freaked out so much at my first attempt that I brought like 8 Reviver Seeds, but I didn't use a single one in that fight. I equipped SpDef Looplet to me and my partner (fuck Oblivion Wing), used 3 Quick Obs, went straight to his face because didn't know Wands worked from afar, though wasn't a big deal because I had to go past the other fags anyway, Truant Wanded him and proceeded to Blast Seed the fuck of of him. Iirc Serperior could tank Oblivion Wing with SpDef Looplet (or he just didn't use it at all, or I had Toughness, don't remember) so after I ran out of Blast Seeds I just kept attacking and my partner healed me whenever he put me to my knees. I also fucked up by accidentally not adding Ampharos to my team which could help against Yveltal with alliance, but wasn't a big deal.

What's your team btw? Serperior sucks to fucking hard against him. I feel Snivy's quite limited to the game overall, his movepool is very poor though Growth is nice, and Fennekin covered me a lot with his Psybeam

It's funny because Dark Matter was way easier but took like 2 Reviver Seeds because RIP buffed evolution.

I ended winning it at the second try by spamming Water Gun and Ice Beam with Mudkip and telling Riolu to get away from there if it got too close, while it kept using Quick Attack and Vacuum Wave.
Only used one reviver seed in the second try, too, and of course some blast seeds were thrown.

My team was Pikachu and Fennekin, and because I used a progress device, I was stuck 1 floor away from the boss and unable to go back and gather items. I just kept trying and then I remembered Alliance attacks existed and found a Totter Orb on 15F of the dungeon and won it with my partner dead and 5HP left on Pikachu.

Basically the game got a lot easier when I stopped being so stingy about items. I wonder if Pelipper Island could have helped me gathering items too. Oh well, I overcame the odds and did it and it felt great

Wow I never used them, I always sold them. I wasn't sure about using Orbs because the last two bosses seem to have some kind of protection against statuses if I got it right. I also often forget about Alliances, though I preferred to deal with him alone while my partner dealt with the other guys there.

Btw I shouldn't have wasted so much money by buying all passes at once since they'd unlock after the credits anyway. Well that's what I get for isolating from any PMD info on web in fear of spoilers

I didn't play on my 3DS, I actually watched my friend play a bit of the beginning chapters before he loaned the game to me. I already knew I was going to go Snivy/Fennekin as my favorite starters, but with the partner's lil' kunt personality it was absolutely fucking solidified.

Besides, in strategy games I've made it a point to have my main character make the most neutral and uninterested expressions as possible.

Sure, you can use them in a dungeon every once in a while, but they'll have a really long "cooldown." Not sure if it works the same for legendaries like Victini, but they should logically have longer-than-usual cooldowns, too.

How long is the main story? Am I far from the "end", considering you couldn't evolve until you beat Dakrai in Explorers of Sky, instead of when you just "saved" the world by defeating Primal Dialga/Dusclops.

Is there a TM shop/orb available, or is that shop the only one? Did they do away with gummis?

They got away with IQ in the Gates to Infinity. The last game that had it was the WiiWare's Adventure Squad (which, to my knowledge, didn't remove anything but actually added things)

Then Super got away with a lot of held items and replaced them with Looplets.

Also evolution is obviously post-game, after you fix the shenanigans of your partner disappearing.

There aren't any translated versions to my knowledge.

The plot is rather simple to my knowledge; first you search someone that got lost, then later on I think you'll go search food for the village... and it leads to quarrels... and you need to do something more, I think? I am not sure, didn't finish everything yet.

There are 3 versions, each with 15 dungeons. I think all Pokémon are only in one version, besides the Pokémon that you could get by now-lost Wi-Fi events.

Sounds bad, right? But you can link them into one save! The games have a total of 4 save files, for 4 players.

It's not a masterpiece, but I found it to be nice enough to be a time waster.

Just be aware that this is where enemy evolution was introduced. It can happen as early as second dungeon, I think.

Evolution does have a purpose now, since it changes the size of Pokémon. Which is important for the tower mechanic.

The game also added an item that seems to be called 'PP All'. It's basically a Max Elixir on entire team; I dubbed it 'Megalixir'.

Also yes, Dolphin links the saves properly.

Each ROM is about 50MB light.

At least I know how many missions I need to progress fillers, thanks to the guy who speedrunned Blue Rescue Team. Depending on the event, it takes 2, 3 or 4 (although some filler sections have 2 events so it can jump to about 5 in total).

It took him about 2 hours and 12 minutes to reach the credits.

Tobe honest, he had Skitty, which has Attract, DoubleSlap and Tail Whip.

He also apparently abused some bug/quirk with quicksave that made game somewhat less random. I don't know what they mean by that.

My main issue with him is how he pretty much dictates the rules in Pokémon Speedrunning and everyone sucks his balls. Have you attempted these dragons, or are you memeing? The problem isn't dealing damage, its surviving. Curse doesn't last as long as my R. Seeds, and one dragon will attack while the other is Truant. Orbs let me set up for maybe 3 items for sure, but then I get rekt.

You have held items in the form of looplets. Most powers you get are from emeras (items that disappear after the dungeon and give you bonuses while in that dungeon) but some looplets also have intrinsic bonuses. I'm not far into the game and already have one that boosts attack, one that boosts defense, one that speeds up healing, one that gives you Exp for every step you take in the dungeon, and one that protects you from weather. I imagine there are more that simulate the effects of older items.

it's a mix of good and bad. I'm recruiting everything in Blue and Exeggcute is on literally 1 floor in the whole game, at a .62% spawn rate. Some pokemon are retardedly hard to recruit.

Three evo items are found only in Wish Cave shops. Upgrade's literally found only on 2 floors, almost at the very end of the thing.

I might just spam Wish Cave for it instead, Howling Forest's fucking water and awful layouts are a nightmare for recruiting, and I have no 1-Room or Drought Orbs, since I used my only ones for Kecleon recruitment. That and all my Illuminate mons are really weak.

Pickup is still as good as it is.

Hell, it works even in the Dojo Mazes, which otherwise don't give any items.
Pickupers can pickup Gummis in type mazes, among other things.

...still can't get used to this small as fuck inventory.

I much prefer befriending pokemon by befriending them than by doing it the /m/ way, at least in Super. It works in the context that they "guide" you to places and tell you where you can go.
