Besides, take a look at this and see how they balance the long animations with something so simple as displaying the text at the same time as the action is happening.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-z_7UTkqd3MFor example, in Battle Revolution, when a pokemon gets hit for SE damage, the text displaying SE, the animation of getting hit AND the HP bar decreasing are all shown at about the same time, it's all super fast paced. On the contrary, in SS there's a significant delay for these exact same steps, the pokemon gets hit and displays the hit animation, HP starts decreasing and when it's done, it says if it was SE or not SE. And that's not even mentioning the noticeable delay between choosing an attack and the Pokemon carrying our the order.
You CAN have long, high quality animations and STILL have a fast paced battle, but you need a competent Dev for that I guess.
