HGSS is an objective improvement over GS. Added safari zone, following mons, etc. HGSS is the best game in the series. Crystal competes with it, but even Crystal doesn’t have safari zone, following mons, or the p/s split and cross gen evos.

GSC really only has aesthetics and like 10~% less dialogue than HGSS, and HGSS is beautiful too, just in a different style. HGSS blows it out the water in every other respect.

Why do people hate this dex again? It's full of comfy designs. Soft gentle colors that aren't hard on the eyes, good anatomy, and cute designs that go well and balance Gen 1's rough designs. Are the Pokemon too subdued and not over-the-top for some people?

DraStic DS Emulator is actually great and runs everything with incredible smooth but it's paid
There's also a free emulator called "NDS Emulator - For Android" which is surprisingly good though, emulates almost any game without frame drops or dead pixels, the only downside is that it has Ads on the top of the screen (Not too much honestly) and they play each time you want to launch a ROM

It's too small, but with Gen 6-8 that goes out the fucking window, doesn't it? My bigger issue with Gen 2 was how many of them were locked to late game, often very late game like with Sneasel and Larvitar, but HGSS corrected most of that. Dream team was Feraligatr, Misdreavus, Heracross, Sneasel, Skarmory and Tyranitar btw.

That's unfortunately partly a technical issue. With the way that the games are set up, you could only have a max of 254 Pokemon, so really they just missed putting 2 extras in. The way the Pokemon data is written doesn't support more than that. You COULD theoretically change how it's done by rewriting the code, but it's incredibly time-consuming and no one has done it yet.

I always figured that was the case, that's often the bit limit for these old games. Regardless, that was still my main issue with it when it was out and all the way up to Gen 6 where Gamefreak decided to flush itself down a toilet. Now it's just the issue of distribution in the original games. As you can see, my ideal team would be incomplete until the very fucking end at Mt. Silver, which galled me a bit as a kid.

Honestly might be the Baby and no evolution pokemon. It felt more of a step backwards in usable pokemon when you get to the Elite 4 because your 1st route pokemon rarely came in handy by then. The better pokemon are only obtained late game or through trading in obscure ways. Design wise, the roundness of them all clashed with the hairy and rugged designs from gen 1.

It's never been a terrible generation, but soon Gen 3 would fill in the gaps the roster. SSHG is the best way to play it cause you get at least 400 pokemon to be flexible with.

I enjoyed it, as well as the features inside and outside the game.
I didn't like the Battle Frontier which was a carbon copy of Platinum and I didn't like the fact that Team Rocket essentially gave up so easily. The story was basically the same which was disappointing, but other than that, the game was enjoyable.

Definitely the baby pokemon and the large amount of shitmons. Sinnoh fixed a LOT of this dex with its cross gen evos. Johto has some of the peaks of the series even with those though so its not entirely bad.

I feel like Gen 2 is meant to play 2nd fiddle/complement Gen 1. So you need bats in cave, you already have Zubats. Daylight birds? You already have Pidgey and Spearow, so we'll make Hoothoot a night bird. This is nice, but that means that a lot of them don't have as strong of a design as it could've. There's a tried and true niche in pokemon. Salamence who fight directly/tried to replace Dragonite immediately come off as strong design. Same with Staraptor who tried to replace Pidgeot.
