Hold on, just today I was trying to get my therapist to understand why I have the problems that I have and maybe she could make some sort of analysis from there, since she's always talking about useless bullshit that doesn't help me, and she outright said "I don't care about your past and analysing it is pointless, only your present matters and you should just forget any trauma".
Incredibly helpful, totally. The whole point of therapy is to try and see why someone acts or is the way they are, and you can't just "just forget it, geez, the past doesn't matter" them. What is this, some new trend I was not aware of?

As someone who has played every Pokemon game, I started mashing A and not reading anything those idiots have been talking about since gen 4. Pokemon would genuinely be a better game if you started out, got your starter pokemon, and continued the entire rest of the game with basically no interuptions. For an example of an old game doing this, look at Red/Blue version. For an example of a new game doing this, look at BotW.

Can keep rivals and the evil team, but I want everything else gone. Give me five minutes with the professor at the start and then leave me the fuck alone for the rest of the game. I have absolutely no idea what the story was in Sword/Shield, and I beat it immediately before getting on /vp/ and seeing this thread.

James Turner is art director for this game. I don't think there was ever a series-wide art director at any point. Sugimori was always the illustrator for all characters and Pokémon (at least until Archer, Arianna, Petrel, and Proton in HGSS), and he designed all the human characters (once again, at least up until HGSS where the Kanto Gym Leaders redesigns were by someone else), but Pokémon designs were always a collaborative effort by a lot of people. There may have been generational directors, but never a series-wide one. But it is pretty clear that Sugimori is barely involved anymore. Masuda stepped down from directing after LGPE, but continues to produce. Tajiri fell off the map after GS.
