Gen 2 perfectly encapsulates the essence of Pokémon and Gen 7 is the antithesis to that, so yes, I'd say you rather like Pokémon a lot.

It's easy to create many teams in Alola, unlike in DP. Alola only sucks to replay because of the endless cutscenes. Apart from that it's quite fun.

The side characters are fine and no worse than any other pokemon game.
Guzma actually stands out as a well written character.

I don't disagree that the main cast and plot sucked though.

Before anyone gets the pitchforks, yes i like oras. yes it is a lazy remake and they cut corners. But the QoL enhancements, amazing multiplayer, and great region makes it a really fun game to play even today. While I understand how it must feel to have your childhood favorite game be butchered like that, I did not grow up with gen 3 and oras was my first experience with hoenn when it came out.

Also gen 1 is a buggy mess that is not enjoyable to play without nostalgia goggles. Like seriously if pokemon never got popular and gen 1 were the only games ever made, pokemon would be a forgotten blip on the catalog of the gameboy

I mean, yeah I guess. Its still fun at 2-5x speed though, and most of the bugs aren't that noticable for a normal playthrough.
