So uh, the last thread hit the bump limit way faster than expected so I wasn't able to prepare a questionnaire this time around...

In the previous thread, we were discussing a hypothetical question: what would a guild composed of everyone in this thread, /pmdg/ would be like and what Pokemon would we take form of?

So far, we have a Meowstic guild master, timid Snivy, Ribombee, a passionate Vulpix, Charmander, Mareep, Mailman Linoone, a rogue Quilava, a prankster Charmander, an Oshawott and a Chespin (is that all? Let me know if I left someone out.)

Now the question is: Do you want a partner that accompanies you when joining the guild? if you do, what will your partner pokemon be?

There's only one Charmander (me, hello), as far as I'm aware lol. Also I guess for personality you could put "impish" or something. It's a bit off from my irl personality, but that's mostly because staying almost exclusively in one house for half a decade straight has neutered a lot of my social skills. Pretty sure if I was given the opportunity to socialize again it'd be an accurate descriptor.

As mentioned in the previous thread I had Axew as my partnermon in GTI, so I would want a pokemon partner and go with him again for sure.

And I'll repost my question in terms of a plot, or at least epilogue here again for the new thread:

Say we all end up isekai'd in the PMD world, and as these things go we're there for a purpose, say to defeat some big monster mon throwing a hissy fit and trying to destroy the world again or something.
And we all, naturally, succeed in stopping him.

Now we are all given a choice, individually. To return home lest our presence cause an imbalance and even possibly endanger the world again
Or lose your human memories and stay forever stuck as a pokemon in the pokemon world, remembering only the times you had here and the friends you have here?
I'd probably stay myself to be honest. I don't really have a whole lot going for me in life irl, but that's obviously not the case for everyone, and I'm curious as to what people's thoughts on the matter would be. Even moreso if there was a chance for something like what GTI did, where it offers the capability to freely travel between the worlds, but this was only found out after the decision was made? And would you try to find some way to restore the memories of the anons that had chosen to stay a pokemon?
I'm curious to hear the thoughts of those that haven't responded to this yet, as well as if anyone has any further ideas on the matter than what was discussed last thread. I'm no writefag, but maybe we can get something built up collectively as a sort of framework or something.

That always is an interesting point as well. "What *really* defines you as you?" I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with for the story.

Why do you even want to be in a guild anyway? I would just live in an area where jobs aren't gatekept, build a reputation, and have them delivered to me directly like in Rescue Team.

That is an interesting point too. Couldn't you just complete a job by finding out about it, and using an escape orb or something to rescue the mon?
I figure a guild would both keep anons out of trouble more or less, as well as help out a lot when the eventual reason that we got isekai'd to the PMD world in the first place.
It is possible to rough it out on your own if you really want to do so I guess. Good luck with the hostile pokemon out there though.

Canonically you don't even need to be in a guild to get Team Badges (which are just Escape Orbs but infinitely more powerful, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense if you think about it for too long), you just need to register your team, like in Rescue Team and Gates to Infinity.

I kind of don't want to but honestly I'm so lonely all the time irl that some company would be appreciated. Very likely i'd stay for a month before defecting to be an independent team with my Natu buddy, but I'd still stay on good terms.

Maybe I'd pick up a job selling stuff I got from the dungeons on the side. If that goes well, I could build a banking empire and truly make my (human) family proud lol.

How would you handle an anon-turned-pokemon that's gone rouge and started doing bad things? Could be as simple as petty theft and vandalism, or something like rape, murder, etc.
But its still someone from the human world, with how few of us would be there, how would you handle this outlaw anon-mon?

GTI also requires you to have at least 3 pokemon for a team iirc, as well as having to report in regularly with that one HAPPI organization (which was part of a plot part about midway through the game) or your badges will no longer work and your rescue team status revoked.
Though I don't recall anything like that in RT, so I suppose it depends on what continent you find yourself on.

Frankly, I'm not sure i'd make it my problem
If it became one, though, I'd absolutely rely on my partner to predict what he'd do and take a lot of the execution into my own hands. Maybe devise a strategy to confuse him with a lot of Teleporting around the guy in a circle, to keep him contained, while spouting out some Embers or something to weaken it. Repeat process until the dude's incapacitated and can be taken into custody.

If it was something like serial rape of 10+ mon or something though I don't think custody would be fitting lol. By that point just kill the fucker. World's better-off without someone that deranged.

do you think evolution would be at all possible considering your origin? if so, how long do you think it would take? would it be tied to your age?

slightly related, how would megas/gigantamax work? The former i've always headcanoned just needed a pokemon partner for the key stone instead of a human one, but the latter might require more finessing due to being supposedly galar-specific and all.

I think it would be possible, eventually. No doubt there would be some reason you couldn't evolve right away as is usually the case with PMD, but at some point it would probably be possible.

Tied to something undefinable I think, these are "magical" monsters after all. Probably something inferred from however the pokemon figure out their stats and stat growth and such.

I'd never want to evolve though lol, the final evo, Serperior, loses limbs!
That's scary to consider, to just go around being a meat tube.

Megas work in DX via an...empowerment seed I believe it was? As for gigantamax, I haven't played all the way through sword yet but I could see it being connected to those one meteorite shards or something, like how megas are with seeds or stones or what have you. Maybe it needs some extra items or something, maybe some of those "gigantamax candies" from the game or something.

Evolution isn't tied to age, and there are multiple ways to awaken/megaevolve in the Pokémon franchise. In PMD they used Emeras and seeds.

Yeah, that is a good point. I prefer to be honest and truthful to my pokemon partner, but it would be a conundrum to try to figure out how to gently explain some of the worse aspects of the human world, if it ever came up, in a way that won't freak them out.
Like,

How do you explain something like that for example, to someone so sweet and innocent?
Hopefully it would never come up, I'd try to just generalize and tell them it wasn't exactly a pleasant place, but life still went on, or something idk.
Speaking of cheesy though, one funny line I had in mind when going through GTI with my Axew partner was "all this hardship is worth it just to see your smile"
God I feel silly just for typing that, but still. I'm glad we're all anons here.

Just shove a couple stun seeds and a vile seed or two down some dangerous mon's gullet, they'll be unable to hurt you.

Didn't Emeras also need a bracelet or something to function? The seed alone, while presumably rarer, seems to be a better option on that alone.

WWII battleship gets isekai'd to another earth, right at the beginning of a different war between the two dominant species, one raptor-like, the other more lemur. They ally with the lemurians, but also need to unite their various factions; and endeavor that is threatened when one of the ever-dwindling humans rapes a lemurian. Handled with a bit of old-fashioned vigilante justice. "Where's Pvt. So-and-so? I don't know, must've gotten drunk and fell overboard."

Evolution should be possible, and probably based on "experience" or whatever rather than age. One's aura being strong enough that they can handle the additional power coursing through their being. Well, given what we've seen of guilds so far it seems likely that most of the mons would live at the guild, and if you're going to have kids there with you eventually they'll be having to help in some way with things. Also pokemon seem to develop pretty damn quickly after hatching, so I suppose that would be one way to increase the guild numbers as well.
also how eggs were bizarrely handled in EoS, where people would just give out their unhatched children as a reward at times...or seemingly, some other mon's kid.

Well, I won't treat them differently from Outlaws but when it does get grave like murder, that's crossing the line and probably lock them up. A bad person is still a bad person, no exceptions.

Think of it this way, only the hero and partner left and so one of the Pokemon (often times magnemite) would be the temporary leader. To the others, it seems those two left the Rescue Team and didn't bother the team as they have nothing to do with those two anymore otherwise how are they still there.

That seems a little light for potentially grave crimes, though they never go over something like that afaik in the pokemon world. Hell, even Munna from GTI who along with her goons canonically outright killed several humans turned pokemon in the story, seems to have gotten away scott-free with it all.

It's the original game, but it makes you play as an Egg (ability: Unburden, starting moves: Tackle, Softboiled, Natural Gift, Helping Hand). Only some lines of dialogue are changed, and occasionally the music is different. First dungeon is unchanged, I was about to close the game at the second one, but it's called "Wayback Forest". I don't know how much is changed, but I don't want to go through more of the story just to see if later dungeon are different. In general the changes in this hack are minimal.

Y-yeah. The writing for the partnermon in GTI was particularly appealing to me, a very kind and caring mon, and one that had a similar lonely life as well (that he only ever mentions once in the game, when your own character is asleep lol) add that on top of being an adorable Axew, and going through the worldcore just for the chance to see his friend again. That's the sort of precious pokemon I want as my poke-partner. A true friend.

Given you can recruit a pokemon that's hatched from an egg into your adventuring team almost instantly in EoS, I'd imagine if anything the time needed off would mostly just be to keep an eye on the egg, assuming there isn't some place for that already in town like there was in EoS.

It's based on from my story. So basically all the anon-turned-pokemon with their partners ride on Solgaleo and chase after Dawn Wings Necrozma, the first phase will be fighting from the air and then it eventually hit to space. Idk, after how kyurem nearly curbstomped the protag-mon to death, clearly traumatizing the poor partnermon in the process, I'd say they were "killed" in the sense that their pokemon body was damaged enough to fail. PMD seems to make a bit of a distinction between the body and the spirit, but that would still be an awful thing to happen even if they'd be fine in the human world.

Particularly because how when the epilogue starts, with your partner, he just sort of wakes up on his own, having not even moved your bedding or anything, and just sort of sadly stares at it for a little bit before starting his day. And then later on he's just zoning out and down when the rest of the team are talking about stuff. It was heartbreaking.

Well Pokemon Paradise in GTI can fit at least 1 of every pokemon in the game in it, 144 altogether, at least. So if we do get that big we'll have to make our own Paradise I suppose lol. that would seem fun to do.

Now quick, anons, which villain from the games would make the most interesting protagonist? I'm definitely asking this to promote interesting discussion and not to get you in the mood of thinking about criminals as heroes.
I think Maxie's humans-first mindset would make it reeeeeal interesting if he suddenly... wasn't human anymore.
Cyrus' autism in general would really spice up the story the most though, whether you see him as a sociopath who wants to become god or a neglected child who wants to rewrite reality to get rid of emotion so nobody can be sad or mad at each other anymore, he'd certainly be the most driven protagonist yet and would probably be trying to use the power that comes with being a Pokémon to his advantage. He's quite dissatisfied with the current state of the world - what would he think of the new one he finds himself in? Would the differences make it closer or further from his ideals? Or would he just see it as easier to conquer? Dang, now I wish Galactic Mystery Dungeon was real... Much more interesting than a story that just culminates in some sort of asspull non-Pokémon quasi-sentient boogeyman made out of non-specific "evil energy" being the mastermind at the last second

Oh I see, you're that anon! Glad to hear that you're still working on it, I look forward to seeing it, whatever you make. I've been thinking of a prompt or two myself, that CYOA posted a few threads ago was giving me some ideas, with some of the items suggested being a berry or seed garden, and I thought about perhaps going over some short story involving an Axew, that's good with plants, finding the human-turned-pokemon Snivy and going from there. The idea of the partnermon taking care of a grass type protag as a particularly prized plant when he's been working with them his whole life, and finally finding a friend out of doing something he loves like that seemed appealing.
I'll have to dig up those CYOAs here and post them again before the thread hits bump limit or something.

Yeah, I really love that sort of thing too. RT's early cutscene where you first get introduced to your house really gets me thinking about that sort of thing.
Its fun to think outside the box, and try to think in ways that something that is not human, but has all the mental capacity, sapience, etc, that a human has might think. To feel the wind on your snout, the sun on your flesh, the rain and the earth beneath your inhuman feet, to try to imagine what the sensory response in such a body would be like, the aches and pains, the movements of strange new limbs and bits, the angles at which your eyes might look at things, etc.

I'm probably just weird, but I find such immersion to be great for the creative experience. To try to think and feel and dream in ways unfathomable to man, its something I am fascinated by.
And personally, I find the whole thing often cheapened by the whole "furry" thing a lot of art and stuff usually comes from. A lot of people just want "haha funny humans but look different XD". I want something to actually *be* different, though the experiences of humanity are currently all we really have to go off of...
Anyways, sorry if it comes off as a bit weird, but I'm in a bit of a creative mood right now. Maybe if I can slap together this story into a shape that won't be pathetically lackluster I'll post some greentexts later or something.

I'm at least jotting the ideas and such down.
Its interesting just to think about though, like with the vine whip thing for example, would it feel slightly slimy, or dry and hard like a grapevine or something? And would one feel a bit of a tugging sensations along where the vine would come out as it is extended, or would it lack nerve endings along it?
I also like to imagine that many grass type pokemon would have more sap-like blood, and how that may function into their biology. Researching into how sessile plants such as the Trillium cernuum function for some ideas.

Different anon, but I was thinking about this earlier in the thread here as well, ultrabeasts would make a great part of a story plot. The inhuman(inpokemon?) outsider force that comes in and wrecks havoc, hell many of them might not even be aware of how much they are damaging things coming from an alien environment, and the main player has to find some way to fix things, and in the nature of pokemon of course, a way to do so more or less peacefully (or at least without just killing them or something), sounds great.

I'd like the MCs motivation for dimension hopping be a way to get back home, or at the very least become human again.

So they end up joining a brand new guild focused on exploring these portals popping up in mystery dungeons across the world, also doing other jobs to collect money to fund the main expeditions, but that's just an excuse for some downtime and allowing you to do side events or missions.

But yes I would presume that the pokemon that live there know in some way how to at least maintain the place, the same as the pokemon that live in towns around the PMD world know how to maintain and even build buildings.
Particularly with games like GTI, and the unusual building materials put in there (read the item descriptions sometime from the build menu, its interesting stuff and really hammers home the "magical" nature of the world like mystery dungeons do for the higher tier items), and with pokemon like gurdurr outright being a carpenter.

I do like how the author uses cat behaviors in the book, and how the MC learns about cat life. Also the relationship between the main characters is developed pretty nicely too.

The "Reflective Alloy" Just sounds like stainless steel lol, but the pokemon obviously do not know what that is.
"Peculiar and reflective metal. It's weatherproof and won't rust."
And the higher tier materials are *required* for upgraded buildings. Its a fantasy grinding mechanic to be sure, but some of the item descriptions adds a small bit of world-building imo.

Reminds me of that one really old book where some guy's wife somehow turns into a fox, and the troubles he has adjusting to this as his now fox-wife slowly devolves into behaving just like an animal and eventually escapes and just lives out in the wild like an animal.
Makes me wonder if, as time went on as anon-mons were pokemon, if we would start to think both of ourselves, and day-to-day doing things, as like pokemon? Given how much the brain would impact thinking, even if in this case we would have definitively established a separation of the spirit/mind and the body.

My local library when I was a kid had a copy. That, combined with stuff like the shape-shifting dragons in dragonlance, and a variety of other things including pokemon got me an interest in this sort of thing lol.
Strangely, its never really been a fetish for me. Its fascinating, and I like it as a means to an end given my body didn't turn out so well irl (shitty genetics means early arthritis even in my early 30s, poor eyesight, etc), I never really got along with the sexual/fetish aspect of it.

Yeah, and I hate that. The item descriptions I posted earlier are being pulled directly from my currently on game on my 3DS, there is nothing on the descriptions on either bulbapedia or serebii, which is a shame as it is something that adds a touch of lore to the game that most people will never even bother to check.

oldass pic but you can use a DS if you wanted, gamecube controller totally works as far as I know. DS sucked since there was usually a lot of input lag though.

Yeah, I do so all the time. Actually the store I go to twice a week is 3.2 miles from where I actually live, but I find it perfectly fine walking distance, and I can run about a mile and a half just fine unless there is ice all over the roads like there is right now.
There is also a hiking trail 5 miles out, that is a bit more of a trip, but really nice since it eventually connects to a nature reserve.
Living in the rural midwest in the USA feels great, lots of nature and plenty of places to get away from people.

Sawsbuck and deerling don't.

I think grass types have similar biology to pine trees or have some built-in thermoregulation system in their bodies.

Though I would think it would do little to address the sensation of thirst with a mon like Snivy, but function more like an IV drip or something.

That made me remember one story idea. What if the personality quiz fucks up and gave multiple results. It ended up splitting the human's soul apart and each piece corresponds to the personality, it becomes their own Pokemon. Could be blood, considering that the move is apparently affected by the muzzled condition in PMD games, which restricts the use of moves requiring the mouth.
Could also be aura - but that conjecture doesn't have any canonical basis, and only exists to support one of my preferred theories on how pokemon work (partially).

For the final confrontation to happen the author needs to separate the MC and Jennie, however at this point the two are basically BFFs and are inseparable after the MC basically stopped Jennie from committing suicide and didn't care that she wasn't as important or smart as she pretends. So the author makes MC act completely out of character for one chapter to make him just fuck off and leave Jennie for a while, setting up the final confrontation between the MC and the tomcat that beat the shit out of him when he first became a cat and had no idea how to fight or anything

Everything else is so well written except THIS fucking part ahhhhhhh.
