He missed the word staircase. I propose an alternative version of the 4th question.

Would you try to risk it, sending your partner home and seeing if that's the end of the dungeon, or would you just give up and go home with your partner?

Oh man! I discovered those stories just a few days ago.
The two you mentioned definitely stuck with me the most.
The whole "human turned pokemon eventually forgets their human name and the fact that they were ever human" from the second story is really kino in a freaky way.
I distinctly remember a similar idea for a story someone posted in here quite some time ago. It went something like this:
>Human turned pokemon still has most of their memories when they arrive.
>Gradually loses their memories due to some reason related to whatever world-saving they are in the PMD-world to do.
>Only realizes what is going on when they can no longer remember their mothers face.
>Realizes that saving the world will mean sacrificing the last of what makes them human.
Does anyone have the text or a screencap?

I've had a somewhat related story idea. I'm not much of a writer so please forgive me.

>Someone calls them by their human name. They don't immediately respond.

I've read quite a bit of it. The art is excellent but the story and setting feels somewhat generic and boring.
The guildmaster is a pretty funny character. I like to imagine that he is the hero from RBRT/RTDX

Have you read any other of Makotoo's PMD related works?
"In the sunset I saw with you" is honestly one of my favorite shorter PMD comics.
I especially love how expressive the characters are.

Yeah, it really feels like a generic nekketsu (mentor character, tournament, the power of friendship, etc) but the art has a lot of personality. Makotoo's villains can be really intimidating.

It's a really cute one, probably one of Makotoo's best works. I liked "Heroism of Starry Forest" too even if the story's just as bland as ICMA but the coolness factor is up there.

Zaffre is one of my favorite Anamnesis stories too, but I don't think it had much influence on the one I came up with.
BTW, I like your story idea as well! It's an interesting concept. When I was playing around with evolution, I had the idea that if an isekai'd human evolves, it locks them out of being able to return to the human world. Nobody knew this would happen because none of the other protagonists actually chose to go back home. Imagine you have a character that wants nothing more than to get back home ASAP, so they speedrun saving the world, evolving the second they can (before even finishing the quest) just because it would help them finish it faster, and then the realization that because they evolved they can't go back home.

I fucking loved it!!!! Rasmus fits in well into the crime gang. I think this is the first story we actually have of the strangers actually planning and executing a heist, right? It felt good to to root for the criminals to win. The premise of their heist is super cute. Stealing candy! Kek and the execution of their plan was fun to read.

There were so many funny moments, with Bean being a heavy drinker and Rasmus taunting Kiyo

Booker would go as Issun from Okami. If he wears that costume, it would be fitting for Sneasel to go as Amaterasu (since Amaterasu and Issun are partners)... but Sneasel doesn't look like Amaterasu, so maybe it'd be better if she had another costume. I was thinking it'd be fun if she dressed as TF2's Scout.
Also, Kiyo-anon and I were thinking Kiyo could go as Amaterasu, since they're both white canines. I like that idea. Only problem is that Kiyo and Booker have no connection, so it may be a bit odd for them to go as Issun and Amaterasu, but I think it would be fine. Maybe they'd even end up spending time together due to their related costumes, and they'd bond over it. But knowing Kiyo, that probably won't happen.

Kiyo Cassie and Bean often use disguises in their work, which sadly means they can't wear their pirate/cowboy outfits for Halloween without potentially matching a wanted poster. Besides, since it's a human guild, they (or rather. Cassie) decided to dress up as characters from the human world. Cassie's going as Sailor Moon, by Pika's recommendation. She barely knows anything about sailor moon but loves it a lot!

Basically, me and Spin worked on the outline for the story together, then we'd take turns writing chunks of it out. At the start we were able to tag in/out in real time, but later we started just writing it at different times due to scheduling :P. I'd leave spots marked like [Rasmus teases kiyo] or something like that while I was writing so Spin could fill them in at his leisure, and vice versa. Then we both proof read it, made changes, etc as we went. It was kinda sloppy but a lot of fun! Having a second writer really helps you stay motivated to write, I think :)

Did he really have a choice? If he doesn't defeat the antagonist, the world is destroyed, probably along with him and all of his pokemon friends.

At some point I think humans figured out that spicy food is good at killing bacteria in addition to its flavor. Or it was something along those lines, I don't remember the specifics. Either way, animals wouldn't need to eat them even if they wanted to.

Yeah. I like the art for ICMA but I agree with these criticisms. It's a bit too cliche shounen at times. Even the main town feels really generic with a design right out of every isekai these days rather than a more PMD style. Also I hate the Pikachu as the guildmaster, that rodent is far too overused

That said, it really does have nice art, action, etc. Definitely one of the best fanworks.

I would love to see a complete overhaul of the mechanics to become a real-time action rpg. None of the battle mechanics have felt better than eos/rt, and now that the PMD modding scene is going strong, I don't really want Chunsoft to keep trying with the same formula. I'd rather they try something new.
ARPG PMD also opens the door for real time multiplayer. I would love that.

What I was trying to get at here, is that he doesn't really CARE anymore whether the world gets destroyed. The reason I brought up the One Ring comparison is because the same sort of thing is going in with his memories. The closer the Ring is to being destroyed, the stronger its effects on the user becomes (the less willing to destroy the Ring the wielder becomes). The more memories our protagonist loses, the more he cares about protecting the ones he has left, to the point where he'd let the world end if it meant he doesn't forget. This whole ordeal is causing a MASSIVE mental toll on him; he's basically feral at the end, completely unhinged. The total degradation from the Paragon he is at the beginning, to... that. [Cont.]

The way I've often thought of the good side ultimately winning out (because it wouldn't be as good a story otherwise) is much the same way that Gollum destroys the One Ring. Except here, Gollum is the protagonist.

To the 2nd: Say, for example, the Enemy has been feeding some sort of dark energy into the protagonist that eats away at their memories. During the final fight (again, spitballing here), you have the Partner, the Protagonist, and the Enemy. The Protagonist is either incapacitated due to their condition, or otherwise hindering the Partner, which makes it easy for the Enemy to defeat the Partner, but not until after the Enemy becomes severely weakened in the fight. Now left alone with the Protagonist incapacitated, the Enemy withdraws all its dark energy, all its power, to destroy the world or whatever. This removes all the dark energy from the Protagonist, bringing back all his lost memories, and he can return to his old self, just long enough make the sacrifice and strike down the Enemy for good; but this causes all his human memories to be stripped away forever. This is something I threw together for this comment. My original thought was he doesn't turn feral, and despite all odds, still choses to sacrifice the last of his humanity to save the world, perhaps inspired by the partner going down. The image in my mind is the protagonist jumping at the Enemy, "swimming" in midair through this concentrated energy beam being shot at him by the Enemy. As he gets closer, falling towards striking the killing blow, he can *feel* the last bits of humanity getting stripped away.

I think the setting, the use of Pokemon as playable characters, the randomized dungeons, and many mechanics like items and IQ abilities could be repurposed into a very enjoyable ARPG. It'd be a big departure, yeah, but at this point PMD needs to "depart". The formula from 2005 is stale. If you don't want it to change, no worries, you can keep playing the old games. The dungeons are randomly generated, so they're infinitely replayable.

Well, technically this formula's from 1993, so no wonder it feels stale.
I do have to agree with Tybo's assessment. I do think that the game would have a LOT of life breathed into it if the dungeons weren't all just the same boxed rooms with different monsters inside.

I read "Sweets and Silk" (https://rentry.org/kqkw98) by Spinarak-anon and Kiyo-anon. I thought it was pretty good. The characters and their interactions were written well, especially the banter between Kiyo and Rasmus. The characters' plan/actions seemed logical and kinda cute--stealing all the Halloween candy is such a childish, cartoonish plot, but it was fun to read about. My favorite part was definitely the ending, since it was comfy.

But there were parts where I got confused and couldn't quite visualize what was going on, because I felt like things weren't explained or described clearly enough (like parts of the robbery and window crash scenes). There were also typos and grammar mistakes throughout, although nothing that ruined the story.

Overall, I think it was a fun read. I'm impressed you guys were able to pull it off in a collab format, and I'm excited to see if more people write collab stories in the future.

Neat story, and a really fascinating concept (albeit sad). Cool realistic details like how he struggles to read the human language, walk upright, or even remember his own name after spending so much time as a Pokemon. And the Squirtle part was especially interesting and tragic. Pretty well-written overall.

Taslean's mainly in control but his ability to act depends on how in-sync he and the ghost mon are. Hijinks ensue if they disagree on something. He giggles in an almost sinister tone and got that crazed look like he's up to something...

I think the narrator is hallucinating their past forms, rather than (yet) having been transformed.

Yeah, it's a hallucination.
As for the name... He remembers it just fine, but in quite a few of his adventures, he fucks up the delivery or says something completely different by accident, and doesn't have the heart to correct his partner. It's a diegetic way of making sure that you can't just tell it's a human based on the name alone.

I can’t get enough of hero x partner. In a perfect world, this exact idea would’ve been the real epilogue for Super.
However, realistically, I’m not sure if it would be possible to animate the whole cuddling thing. Unless my math is wrong, there are 20 starters in the game, with 58 evolutionary stages between them, allowing for 1,653 combinations of Pokemon. Even if you only count final stages, that’s still 190 combinations. So I don’t know if the devs would be able to make unique cuddling poses and wakeup animations for so many combinations. It’s possible, but it would probably be a lot of work.
Still, it’s definitely nice to imagine, and I think the story you came up with here is good. The relationship/romance develops nicely.

A lot of it isn’t PMD related but I've been writing a bit on a stupid PMD/Legends Arceus crossover story for fun. I guess I can post a bit of it.

Basically, Arceus thinks PLA protagonist Rei is taking too long, and decides to go get the PMD2 heroes to help out.

Sorry for shitting up the thread with this garbage.
(Bad grammar warning! English isn’t my native language.)

PMD2 heroes Raichu(hero) and Delcatty(partner) laying in bed at sharpedo bluff, they have already saved the world twice. They think about the lack of excitement in their lives. Still, they are thankful that the world is no longer in danger.

They are abruptly awakened, floating in a shining void. Arceus tells them that they are needed to save the world once again.

Their badges are infused with some kind of power by Arceus, taking on a white, black and gold appearance with golden rings and spikes.

They wake up somewhere in Hisui. They try to talk to some of the local pokemon, asking for directions to the closest town, where they are, etc.

Most just look at them weirdly and ignore them. Not wanting to deal with the two clearly insane pokemon.
A few give them a snarky remark or two. “You crazy or something?” “Whats with the getup?”

They wake up to the sound of something moving close to the cave. Before they can really react, a strange bipedal creature stands in the opening.

“Wha! What’s that? Hello? Who are you?” Delcatty yells in surprise.
“Whah..! No! That’s not! No way!” Raichu says in a mixture of surprise, confusion and fear.
“T.. That’s… a … That’s a”

“Ra! Raichuu” Rei hears the pokemon cry.

“Oh! Ha ha! Did I scare you? I’m sorry.” Rei says cheerfully, looking at the two sharply dressed pokemon.

“Whats it saying? Raichu? I can’t understand a word of it! Do you understand it?”
“I.. no.. I.. I can’t understand it..” Raichu replies with a pained look on his face.
“I thought I… I guess I’m really… No..” he mumbles to himself.

(skipping a bit)

“Have you lost your trainer?” Rei asks and brings out a pokeball.
The two pokemon looks questioningly on the item in his hand.

“Here. I can take you with me back to Jubilife village and see if anyone there recognizes you.” Rei says, proceeding to softly throw the pokeball towards the raichu.

Raichu barely had time to react as he was sucked into the strange device.

“Raichu!?” Delcatty yelled in surprise. “I! You! What did you do to him!?”
She turned to face the human, shifting her stance and baring her teeth.
The pokeball managed to shake twice before Raichu broke out.
“GAH! What was that!? That was awful!”
“Raichu!? Are you all right!?”
“I think so…”
“Hey! That wasn’t very nice of you!” The raichu snarls at the human, readying himself for a fight.

Rei had never seen pokemon fight the way these two did.
Not even the best trainers could ever hope to train their pokemon like this.
It was like a dance, as beautiful as it was terrifying.

It hadn’t even been a minute once he saw the two face to look at him, the trainer’s fainted pokemon surrounding them.

As their eyes met his, he felt it.

He knew the stories of the villagers. Their fear. He had never truly felt it himself.
Even tough he has been able to confirm many of their stories with his own eyes, it never really registered with him.
He was from a time where such things simply didn’t happen.

But now, these two pokemon, a raichu and a delcatty, two pokemon you would often find as cute plushes in kid’s bedrooms, had managed to awaken the most primal sense of fear in him.

He lied there, unable to move, as the raichu stepped onto his chest, grabbed his scarf and pulled his head up. Their eyes met as Raichu started to speak, the cries and growls completely lost on the humans ears.

“So.. This is how you humans act! No wonder I’ve had to hear all of those nasty stories.”
“Tssk.. Trying to capture me in that awful device, forcing others who’ve suffered that exact fate to fight us, then trying to leg it the moment you realized we hadn’t forgotten about you! You sure are brave!”
Raichu brought a claw glowing with energy up against the human’s throat.
“You know.. I’ve met a lot of bad pokemon during my adventures. Those that wouldn’t hesitate to get rid of you for even a moment.”
The glowing energy faded from his claw as he brought it away from the human’s throat.
“You are really lucky I’m not one of them.”

I'm letting you know, I haven't actually played EoS, but I'm on my first playthrough of it right now. I'll go back and give this a reading once I'm done, since I want to avoid spoilers.

To make up for the potential disappointment: Another idea for a potential end to my dementia story, kinda tying together the somewhat conflicting ideas I had. I hope you find it deliciously distressing.
The Enemy being defeated doesn't actually wipe the Protagonist's human memories for good, but it DOES permanently corrupt them, leaving him in an unrecoverable feral-like state. Even with all the memories back, the damage to the roots, so to speak, was too great. This prompts Uxie or whoever to come in after and excise them. A sort of mercy killing, if you will.

I do, that whole “It turns him basically feral” idea is really great, but i feel like maybe it would be more impactful to have it be over with the moment the bad guy is defeated. Maybe have the hero to lose consciousness and fall down to the ground the moment the final blow has been delivered and then wake up a bit later in the hands of the partner with the last of his human memories gone, happy that they finally defeated the bad guy, not realizing what he has sacrificed.

It is supposed to take place some time after the events of EOS. There aren’t really any spoilers except for the mention that the heroes, surprise surprise, did end up saving the world. But please don’t take this as me begging you to read it.

For a bit of self critique. Looking at it now, the formatting is pretty awful. I sat up late last night trying to write it down, copying from several papers of illegible handwriting while trying to wrangle some of the missing parts out of my brain. I should really have spent some more time fixing this and proofreading it in general before posting.

It’s pretty unoriginal, but I feel like there is at least one or two original ideas somewhere in there. I thought the idea of the arceus-badges was pretty funny.

Obviously, its very unfinished. I need to iterate on it a lot if I want to ever turn it into a proper story.

Reading it now, the edgy scene was pretty bad, but it used to be even worse.

Also, I’ve never actually played PLA. It’s pretty funny what you get inspired by sometimes.

Hello anons. If you didn't already know, I've been working on a rather ambitious PMD fangame in the PMDO engine for quite some time, and I've just now finalized Chapter 4 of the game. It's a completely original fangame that aims to recapture the nostalgia and vibes of Explorers.

Some features:
-43 Starters and partners to choose from!
-Built-in mods that allow you to toggle NPC nicknames off, or choose ANY POKEMON as a starter/partner (as long as they have basic sprites. May cause odd behavior due to the nature of it.) To use them, drag their folder from the Halcyon Mods folder packaged in to the overall MODS folder, then toggle ingame at the Mods menu at the title screen.
-4 entire chapters of brand new story, with more on the way. The game's current length is a few hours.
-A dojo system that currently includes some training mazes and a scripted tutorial.
-Completely original overworld maps and dungeons. A lot of care was placed into making each dungeon interesting and the overworld fun to explore.
-Robust partner dialogue in both the overworld and in dungeons based on story progression and location. Talk to your partner often to see what they have to say!
-Dynamic town NPCs based on story progression and plenty of characters to meet. NPCs change what they have to say pretty often, and a lot of work has gone into making the town feel alive!
-All the gameplay updates and changes made by PMDO such as manual control mode for microing your team, move updates (tackle for example now lunges you forward), and how stats and matchups factor into combat.
-Generic mission/outlaw board system made completely from scratch!
-A café system where you can brew unique and powerful drinks

Actually, ignore my last comment on your story.
The "corrupted memories turn him feral" idea is WAY too good to not be used. The fact that it is the former human turning feral is especially freaky. My fear was that it would result in starting a new storyline about fixing his mind at what should have been the end.

What I'm thinking now is something more akin to this:
>The partner is trying to wake up the passed out hero. He thinks Hero has all of his memories back.
>"Wake up <human name>! We finally did it!"
>Hero wakes up, immediately hisses and snarls at the partner and tries to get away.
>"What's wrong!?"
>As the partner looks into the eyes of Hero. He no longer sees his best friend anywhere in there, only a feral animal.
>It is ultimately the partner's choice to excise the corrupted mess that used to be Hero's humanity in an attempt to salvage what was left of his mind.

I feel like this ties into the whole dementia thing, with the protagonists mind ultimately dying while still somewhat resembling a happy ending.

I actually got to help test Chapter 4 before release, and I have a lot of positive things to say about both PMDO and Halcyon in general.

In terms of PMDO changes, the altered move effects make things more fun and make your Pokemon feel more diverse. Some moves move in an arc above dungeon walls, some have an area of effect, some make you dash forward towards the enemy (I.E Headbutt or Quick Attack), and so on. For an example of how the move changes make mons more diverse, my Cubone and Sprigatto partner both had different roles - Cubone would use Headbutt to rush in towards enemies and clobber them, while Sprigatto would hang back and snipe opponents with Magical Leaf and Leafage.

As for what Halcyon adds to the formula, each dungeon has its own gimmick, save for the tutorial one. I'm not going to spoil these for any potential players, but the gimmicks + enemies using PMDO's altered move effects make the dungeons feel less like a boring slog.

I also like the town in the game, there's a lot of NPCs with their own dialogue that changes a bunch. Again, I won't spoil anything, but I found myself checking everyone's dialogue after each step forward in the plot.

On a side note, the Cafe works different than what you might be used to in Sky, although this is a good thing. Instead of processing Gummis into drinks that boost your stats to absurd levels, the Cafe instead serves as a place to craft special items. My favorite is the Cheri Bomb, which creates a huge-ass explosion when thrown. The one time I used it, I cleared out half a Monster House, although I got damaged by the blast radius, too.

In all, I think Tropius and the guy making PMDO are doing important work which is sadly mostly unnoticed. I see the engine and Halcyon as a chance to improve upon and spice up the PMD formula, instead of having the same old gameplay.

Box springs are kinda important to having a bed as we'd recognize at an economical level, and to say they're a nightmare to make without industrial metalworking is a massive understatement.

In the situation shown in the PMD games, your options are either a relatively soft but near-raw plant matter like hay, obnoxiously expensive fluffed plant fibers as with cotton, or a ludicrous amount of blankets.

Furs, feathers, silks, LOADS of things expected of bedding are incredibly awkward with Pokemon-as-people.

Not bad anon! I like Suicine's portrayal here, and the inner monologue of the human (?) character is done well. The world building is pretty immense, and picks up off the last chapter nicely. Only problem for me is the constant switching between present and past tense, it gets a little grating, but thankfully it seems to get better in the second half. Enjoyable read!
