This is Pokemon Opalo, or Opal. It has 16 gyms, a story about native Americans n shiet, and there's some regional variants and fakemon starters. It's also Spanish and has a shit English translation, but that just adds to the fun.

Story was alright. Nothing amazing, but it had it's kino moments, brought higher by the effort put into the eventing.
Music was pretty good. It generally fit decently well with the areas.
>The questionable HMs as a whole were REALLY inconsistent. You don't need strength on a mon to move boulders, just have the HM for it, and Fly has a key item to use, the rest work as normal. At least they generally weren't necessary to progress the story, but it was annoying.
Some features were pretty annoying. F12 crashing the game is pretty bad, but not a massive hit in my enjoyment of the game. Only being able to register one key item really sucked though. I never used the Pokevial simply because I opted to keep the Fly item registered, and then completely forgot it's existence until I found another charge towards the end of the first half.
Following mons like many other fangames still do absolutely nothing, except this time, the really kino scene above made it worth it. Outside of that, there's really not much they do, if anything. Though I'll admit I don't really see it as a essential feature like some people do, so I'm probably a little more critical of it when it's not implemented well. Sure, it's neat and all, but more often than not they just get in the way and offer very little outside of silently stay behind you and do nothing.

Alright so I'm going to format this review a bit differently, starting from the bad and going to the good because there's not a lot of bad to talk about and most of the substantial discussion points are in the good anyway.
>Shit I didn't like Arbitrarily nerfing a lot of mons with no documentation. Some didn't deserve it (Delphox, Stakataka), others are so obscure within wonder trade it shouldn't really matter (Regidrago, Regileki), and others it defeats the entire point of the mon (Aegislash and Dragapult missing their signature moves is soulless) even if they're still mechanically usable.
The game had a bit too much bleeding heart rhetoric given the amount of violence the tribes were already established to be committing against each other in-universe. I mentioned this before but their moralistic claim to the land when the pokemon where there first in a narrative that hard pushes human-pokemon equivalency is hypocritical at best and nonsensical at worst. I'm sad this point was never brought up directly, although I guess you can read between the lines and infer this is the Great Spirit's position on the conflicts.
The game is extremely slow performance-wise. I had to play basically the entire game on speedup just to make it playable. This type of bad performance is par for the course for essentials games, but it shouldn't be excused at all.
A lot of characters who do some actually evil shit get away with it scott-free because they end on a heroic note. I'm not opposed to redemption arcs, but for a game that tries to drive justice as one of its core themes so heavily, this short-term memory doesn't jive with the real and permanent harm these characters have caused.

Not only is the tileset usage good, the routes feel easy to get around while also having ample things to do, the music is overall well-chosen, the cutscenes are vibrant and the artwork used in some scenes is a wonderful touch. The map design is quite a bit better than the past few games I've played. There's a couple stinkers but I wouldn't even call those outright bad, just less good than the rest.
The story is, for the most part, competent. There's a bunch of small details I don't like and some of the retcons I'm not on board with, but I respect what Lostie was trying to accomplish and he did it pretty well overall.
The characters and individual interactions during cutscenes are full of sovl and charm and smaller scale conflicts don't rely too heavily on the win the battle, lose the cutscene meme that too often plagues these types of fangames.
>Closing thoughts It's a good game, bordering on great game. It's on the easy side, but that may be what (you) are looking for after trudging through all the other essentials diarrhea out there. I think I'll give the game a solid 8/10. There's a lot to like here but also just enough minor annoyances and rhetorical blunders to keep it from climbing higher.

Decided to at least try getting the Gible, the issue is I'm genuinely convinced the Maractus spawn is bugged or it has an absurdly low encounter rate, I've been looking around the dustbowl and the canyon again for a while with no success in finding one and you need to find it to get Gible, all the other encounters seem reasonable, but Maractus is beyond rare.
