The only time I ever had any kind of lucidity during a dream was when I had a dream about taking my new puppy for a walk, and meeting Polka walking a dog I assume to have been her own. Mine and hers chased each other a bit, and did that thing where they get their leashes tangled around their owners to pull them together for a meet-cute.
I remember because at the end of that meet-cute date dream, the whole of the constructed reality started breaking down as my real conciousness separated from my dream's version of me, and my dream me started freaking out and breaking down emotionally as the fake Polka started fazing out, the backgrounds started going blank, and I started waking up, all while the dream version of me realized that he was just a dream version of the true "Me" and was about to be wiped from existence. I remember that the last thing my dream self did was scream about how I had doomed him to an unfair world, screaming "IT ISN'T FAIR! COME BACK, GOD DAMNIT! DON'T TAKE EVERYTHING AWAY FROM ME AGAIN!!!"
Wild times.
