What you're seeing now is the two girls excited they got to reconnect. Kiara was very lonely when she first got back home, but she eventually moved past it and found happiness. Mori was sad too, but dove into her work to distract from it (and she had all of JP in the same timezone), then by the time she began to feel guilt for not talking to Kiara more, she felt even more guilt like it was too late.
Them getting to hang out again and see that they're both fine, and both still do get along as friends, relieved their stresses. So now they feel comfortable trying again, and I hope they do succeed at talking somewhat regularly. Takamori is finally what it should have been since the start.
