There is no doubt in my mind that there was a massive subset of people who went the "it's not that deep" approach and just watched without giving the message a second thought just because it was a cool new thing literally nobody else did.
Considering how long Cover let her run free with seriously heavy lore, I think the girls probably have some freedoms when it comes to that sort of content. As long as they keep it a little more lighthearted.
