The long wait until Timmie's opens edition!
Haruka sits in a rusted 2005 Chevy C10 in a Tim Horton's parking lot. Across the street a car dealership is fully lit in the morning darkness. She thinks about maybe driving through the lot after her morning errand and seeing all the new cars that have come in. But thinks better of it as she shimmies into her worn seat. She recalls that the truck she's in now is inheritance of sorts from her family's farm. Remembering the day fondly, she runs her fingers along the steering wheel. Tapping to the beat to the radio.
She's moved an hour or two away a few years ago and this morning trip has been a ritual of sorts for her:
Get up
Wash face off with cold water
Brush teeth
Put on a sweatshirt and leggings
Grab the key and purse
Walk to the truck
Get in the truck and make her way to get her morning coffee
Everyday, everyday, everyday. She could have it brought to her of course, she makes a solid living these days. But, the routine gives her a sense of structure and honestly likes the quiet process of it. The roads are clear and quiet, some folks heading to work, city workers clearing the streets when it's snowy, landscapers keeping Canada pretty when it's warm.
She arrives at her local Tim Horton's, parks a few spots from the door and waits. The hours are a little weirder than they have been in the past, she doesn't mind though, gives her some time to sing out of key to whatever song is on the radio while she flips through her discord messages and scrolls through twitter.
The lights inside begin to flicker on and she sees the people inside make their way to the door to unlock it. She smiles brightly at them, turns off the truck. Grabs her purse. Opens the door and makes her way inside.
The manager gives a laughing greeting to Haruka as he opens the door to her, "Ice capp time!?"
She chuckles back, "Sure is, Danny!' and steps into the warm store filled with a swirl of baked good smells and sugar sweet air.
