>>36551105 The offscreen deliberation of the Shitomo arrived to a few different reasons to allow this to unfold:
They are interested in exchanging knowledge on the integration of chuubanite in weaponry, and equipment.
They are interested in meathead experience in boarding tactics and coastal assault maneuvers, since our experience is more focused on coastal defense and open-sea engagements.
In the longer term, the prospect of Matiyotl appeasement is tantalizing due to their knowledge of esoteric matters, which are the specialty of the Goddess Faithful, especially in light of Moriji's recent esoteric problems at home.
Imagine the pataphysics, if flesh and bone came together...
Anonymous
>>36552128 >>36551105 so, how should we determine the victors of any game? it would be fun to use tactics to outsmart each other, but idk much about naval strategy, personally. it looks like if /meat/ is going to win anything, we'll have to rely on dirty tactics, but at least some of our options are somewhat limited, it seems. maybe we can clarify some additional aspects of the exercise to figure out what our options are.
Anonymous
>>36552921 I think a variety of exercises will be set in place, such that both sides get to engage in battles at a disadvantage, on equal ground, and with an advantage.
So, for example, there might be an exercise where a Black Fleet corvette is massively outnumbered and put in a bad position against raiding ships, and the goal is simply to "sink" (training ammunition will be used) as many Matiyotl ships as possible before being overrun.
There could be an exercise where the "game" begins with a boarding action with even numbers of Deadbeat marines engaging Matiyotl raiders, where the outcome could go one way or another.
Or you could have a "game" a Matiyotl vessel is put in a disadvantageous formation relative to a more powerful Deadbeat fleet and their only goal is to escape against all odds.
So, it's not like all the exercises will use the same power asymmetry found in the real engagements, since the military forces should be trained to approach disadvantageous fights as well. Does that make sense?
Anonymous
>>36553398 yes, but if it's competitive, and designed to be educational, i would have expected both sides to have an opportunity to learn from the other, perhaps by replicating their strategies. nvm, i guess that isn't as useful given we have different strategies to utilize.
Anonymous
>>36554534 There are domains where there'll be relevant knowledge pollination. For example, I think Moriji has a stronger tradition in naval artillery, so the Matiyotl could improve their long range targeting techniques by working with them, since they do use cannons. And the Black Fleet does occasionally need to use evasive maneuvers, so the meatheads could help them improve these tactics with their expertise. I'm sure we'll come up with many such examples as we write.

Yes the atmosphere would most likely be vastly different from its current composition, but we still would have evolved with that change, and our cells would adapt to the new percentages. Now if we are talking using a time machine and traveling a million years into the future, then yes, you would suffocate immediately.
And also, that's why the search for habitable exoplanets isnt easy. The oxygen levels on it need to be within the 21% range(and that range is really tight btw) or we just couldnt breathe it without sustaining some damage to our cells. And if it's below that, we are looking at potentially tens of thousands of years of terraforming to raise it.

Okay so Bear Dogs... Bear dogs are not a breed of dog. They are their own species of canine like dingos or cyotes. Bear dogs are about a third the size of grizzly bears. They have plump round bodies with big strong paws. They have floppy ears and short snouts. Bear dogs have lots of soft fur with tough hides underneath. Bear dogs hunt by pinning their prey before eating them. But don't under estimate their bite. They have a bite twice as strong as a pitbull's. Bear dogs are carnivores but they have an omnivorous diet with berries, nuts, and honey. Bear dogs even developed climbing claws to climb trees though they're clumsy climbers. Bear dogs hunt in packs between 6 to 12 dogs. Bear dogs have golden or dark brown backs with cream or white bellies. Bear dogs forage mostly in spring through summer but they hunt during fall and winter. Bear dogs hunt elk, moose, rabbits, weasles, other small mammals, fish, ducks, geese, and eggs. Bear dogs do have predators: grizzly bears, mountain lions, wolves, eagles, and hawks do prey on seperated young. Bear dogs are prized by humans hunters for their succulent sweet meat, tallow, and hides. Though hunting bear dogs is tricky as their sheer numbers can overwhelm a lone hunter and his dogs. While bear dogs have been captured in captivity they are impossible to domesticate. While bear dogs are coordinated in a hunt they mostly do their own thing with their roles. Its not that they don't listen or understand commands. They just don't like to follow absolute orders from an alpha. That said bear dogs in captivity are friendly animals so long as they aren't hungry. Bear dogs sometimes let other animals sleep on their fluffy chubby bellies. Bear dogs live in the tundra, taiga, mountains, and northern forests of northwest Holocontinent. That's all I got for them. Do as you will. Have fun.

Quick question about chuubanite. I haven't followed its autism much. For communicating with a "personal god" situated in the Vitium Field (you can probably guess who I am), would it be acceptable/reasonable for chuubanite-infused paper to have the gods "write in" a response out of nowhere? As in, words appear on the paper? Thanks.
Anonymous
Quoted By:
>>36628454 Ohh, interesting... Hmm, divination tends to rely on the ability of the supernatural to influence chaos, that's why dice, bones, tarot are used for it. I think to maintain the spirit of divination in the Heavenly communication, you'd want to make it so that the Heavenly entity manipulates chaos such that words appear on the paper, as opposed to out of nowhere.
Some ideas:
A priestess throws ink onto the page without looking, the splotches somehow form a perfectly readable sentence.
The chuubanite-infused page is imbibed in a substance that would normally create random blotches on the paper. But instead, the blotches appear so as to form a hand-written letter
The paper is infused with photo-sensitive chuubanite, and exposed to the sun in the shadow of something that moves chaotically, like rustling leaves, a waterfall. But instead of just having random dark spots, the photo-sensitive chuubanite activates so as to form letters and words.
The person doing the communication imbibes large amounts of chuubanite and enters a trance, and writes out the communication on the paper while in that state.
A box full of scrabble tiles is shaked and it content are thrown on a table. Somehow, the tiles align to form words and sentences.
Just a few ideas, there's an infinity of possibilities with this concept, obviously.
EAnon? If this is for /wAIfu/, I imagine one of the faster methods would be preferred for quick communication.

World Exploring Sanalite !BhGStmx/vE
>>36629339 Any practical reason to straighten the scythe's blade? Scythe blades are pretty heavy from my experience with them.
Anonymous
>>36631270 The point of an agricultural scythe(or in this case a reaper's) is curved and you need to swing it at quite a wide angle for it to actually connect (or you can't connect at all since the blade is at such a weird angle) so it's not very practical when fighting other opponents with a more conventional weapon. Straightening the blade gives you the ability to use it more like a bill or glaive. You are then able to thrust and cut with it more effectively whereas with an unmodified agri (or reaper's) scythe you can only use it like a pickax or do drawing cuts with it. Straightening also makes more sense structurally since the center of mass is more in line with the shaft. You see big agri scythes have big handles because it's meant to be swung at your waist for days.

Why would you ever use a sycthe as a weapon, unless well, youre a peasant with nothing else? A halberd, war hammer (not maul) and even things like bills are much better in all regards. Its like going to battle with a pitchfork.
Anonymous
>>36631094 Yeah, I'm thinking the housing would contain a beefy torsion spring, this way the extension is spring loaded . Then, it would lock into place with some kind of stiff ratchet that can be unlatched with a hand-activated mechanism that runs through the shaft. And yeah you're correct about the parry, the extension allows for fun tricks in the heat of battle.
>>36631270 Anon
>>36631514 got it. A war scythe/glaive is just kind of a more sensible weapon (That's why that's what non-catalognaut Deadbeats would use in battle). Here, the reaper scythe's "configuration" has a few functions. First, the outer edge of the scythe is also sharpened (like Mori's), so you can do some weird thrusts and counter-swings with it. Second, it has a spike on the other side that can be used like a standard bec-de-corbin. Third, and most importantly, using the Reaper's scythe as a weapon allows the catalognaut to increase their conceptual connection to the Goddess, increasing their supernatural powers.
>>36631664 You're correct, traditional weapons would be superior for any combat purpose if you disregard the third point above.
Anonymous
Quoted By:
>>36631664 We talked about this before but for Moriji it has a lot to do with religious reasons. If your religion depicts your god wielding a scythe why wouldn't you make something in that image especially when it's for what are basically divine warriors of your god(catalognauts)?

World Exploring Sanalite !BhGStmx/vE
>>36631514 I guess it depends on the length and material of the pole whether or not a swinging scythe can be a proper combat weapon. Technically Kama are scythes. Though kama are short and light weight enough they can block swords and spear heads with enough skill. Kama are also popular with chains as ninja weapons. The chain weight can wrap around the weapon while the scythe end is for quick kills or surrender.
I think a full combat scythe would need an steel plated shaft near the head and a counterweight. The counterweight would help give the weapon balance in glaive mode. Also the counterweight would be a weapon in itself as a blunt option.
Anonymous
>>36631811 Kind of iffy about having it house some kind of spring loaded mechanism since it will experience shock so much from the fighting. Some kind of more conventional turning mechanism would be better, if you are making it in real life anyways.

>>36631962 Oh, that's a good point. The mechanism adds a bunch of weight, it would be good to have a pretty beefy pommel to make it easier to swing by centering the center of mass a bit more.
>>36632059 Yeah, any moving parts would need to be chunky as hell to not just break apart in use. What kinds of mechanism do you have in mind? Another possibility is to forgo the spring and simply have it slide from one configuration to the other by having the user unlatch the ratchet and swing the weapon so as to rotate the weapon in the other position with momentum, where it latches itself again. Though I think some kind of stiff spring element might still be needed to keep the blade snug in position.

>>36632419 The counterweight can help with swinging. Just know that once you start swinging with more weight at the ends then it'll be harder to stop. Also the shaft can easily be snapped in two if there's too much weight fighting against itself either by another weapon or by force. So you'll need a material that's elastic enough to handle the weight. Also the counterweight will not weigh more than half the weight of the scythe head. So it'll still be a top-heavy weapon.
Ardashir !..kK1Rl3dY
Before i go to bed, voms will have war dinosaurs with armor and riders. Have fun speculating on that.
Anonymous
>>36632419 Some kind of spring is probably needed for the mechanism. So maybe it has some kind of depressable leaf spring that brings a piece of steel down. The user then turns it to the position they want and allows it to lock in place by sticking it in a notch. However the notch needs to be deep enough that the whole thing won't be knocked out of position when something strong enough hits it. But that's kinda the price you pay for having "switch" weapons like this, which is also why they are so rare in real life.
Anonymous
>>36632947 What about using chuubanite? It can generate rotation, right?
Anonymous
Quoted By:
>>36632978 Yes but that would also need some kind of mechanism to activate the rotation which would make it even more complex with more moving parts. Unless the weapon's shaft and turning lock is imbued with chuubanite and the catalognaut can control the mechanism at will.

Scythe config is good for closer quarters, quirky duelling, and channeling Death conceptual energy. Glaive config is better for battlefield combat, crowd control, increasing range.
Weapon based around a fighting style is an interesting notion though...

Anonymous
>>36685759 Well, a tax would be paid as a percent of the value of merchandise transited, normally, so it wouldn't matter how many nuts they were carrying, they would just have to pay a percent of them. Say, if some noble taking a pleasure cruise through the sea wanted to cross the strait, would he have to pay at all? Since he's not carrying merchandise.

This isnt as simple as you make it out since people would just try to game the system, and the concept of nuts as currency to most nations is quite honestly laughable. Imagine trying to pay the IRS in nuts. Its nothing personal, some goods just wont count as worthy. Let me look into strait tolls more before I make any rates.
