>>4393321I watched a few playthroughs. I liked the first Subnautica game, but Below Zero isn't as good.
One of the best things about the original Subnautica was the solitary atmosphere, you were alone on a hostile alien planet and almost all of the storytelling was done through enviromental clues etc.
BZ instead has a ~strong independent female poc protagonist~, who can't shut up and interrupts the atmosphere every other minute with some inane quip or monologue.
The crew-stories from PDA's you pick up waste time with stupid soap-opera drama shit I didn't care about.
And the worst thing is that
you get mind-melded with some Alien who's in your head, and getting him a new host body is your goal for most of the game. Along the way you get much annoying and cliched "dialogues" (again, destroying the isolated atmosphere) of stupid "hurr durr unemotional Alien quips about how stupid humans are, hurr durr overemotional female retorts how great humans are" etc. You can probably make it bearable enough if you just turn off the voices and ignore all sidestory bullshit, because the actual gameplay of exploring the ocean is still good enough (minor complains aside, like how the Seatruck isn't as cool as the Cyclops, but whatever)
