We passed a few hallways scattered with bodies, mostly guards with a few wearing jumpsuits. Shiori asked Biboo to keep an eye on this floor as we moved upstairs. She led me to a wide office, the door was half opened with several people with white coats lying around. The sign reads : ‘Control Center’, with the entrance keypad heavily damaged. She stopped and looked up at me, shrugged with her fixed arms.
“Now professor, would you be kind enough to give me a helping hand and pick my stuff up?”
“What stuff?“
“You will know when you find it.”
She ignored my further questions and knocked on the door with her elbow, popping her head in and asked.
“Where are you Nerissa?”
A desk in the distance wobbled a bit and a tall woman stood up.
“ Shiori~n!” The woman with long, black hair shouted, holding a man in her arms. She ran towards us agilely carrying a full grown man, dodging every obstacle in her way. Shiori bumped me to the floor as she got jumped by Nerrisa.
“ I missed you Shiorin.”
Nerissa snuggled her so affectionately when Shiori looked at me helplessly.
“…I missed you too Rissa. Can you let me go now?” Shiori said ,much colder than Nerissa’s tone.
“B-But, I love you Shiorin.”She said with a sweet and needy voice .If she's not holding a man with a knife stuck in his stomach ,her voice would be enchanting.
“ Cool, I love me too. Now get up.” Shiori struggled out of her embrace.
“ Wow~ That’s cold Shiorin. I will kill for you.”
“I know. Last time you KAPUT the entire night shift guards to see me.”
“I thought you liked it. Maybe your companion will be more friendly to me.” Nerissa replied, yet sounded nothing ‘friendly’. Her raven-like crimson eyes made me feel like an invulnerable prey, only a matter of time to be eaten alive.
“I’m sorry Rissa, but he’s mine. You already got one in your arms.” Shiori blocked Nerrisa’s sight, saying sarcastically. I took the opportunity to get into my search quest, escaping their line of sight.
The office was smashed badly with books littered all over the place. I have to go through every one, afraid of missing any clue.
As I scanned the floor, I noticed an old man curled in the corner. His hand was holding something tight, even the wound that made him died in a puddle of blood couldn’t make him let go of it.
I pulled open his pulseless arm, revealing the thing he would give his life protecting it.
It was a book.
The purple hard cover is covered with a strange pattern, with no visible word or letter on it. The edges are rough with a few damage, someone must be using it quite often. Although it looked like an ordinary book at first glance, as I grabbed it an unnatural chill shivered on my spine. His palm holding the book was covered with blood print, but not a single stain could be seen on the cover.
A pale white hand grabbed my wrist firmly when I attempted to open the book. Its nails sting deeply in my skin, with a grip so great that I can’t free myself from the agony. The supposed dead doctor sat up and stared directly at me with its two dilated pupils, opened its bloodless lips to roar.
“DO NOT TRUST HER LIES!”
I screamed out loud uncontrollably and fell back to the ground. The body was in its original position, as dead as I found it in the first place.
“Wha-What?” I managed to catch my breath and checked my grabbed wrist. As I slowly came back to my reasoning, looking at my unharmed wrist, I can’t help thinking. What does he mean? Was that even real, or just this hell hole making me insane. Am I really seeing things, am I -
“ You know seeing doesn’t always mean believing right?” Shiori stood behind me and replied to my own thoughts.
“Wha- “ Out of shock, I can’t process what just happened, looking blankly at Shiori. She noticed the book in my hand and took it.
“You're amazing, professor, you found my diary.” She said in delight.
“Hope you didn’t take a peek, that would be rude.”
She observed my facial expressions with her squinted eyes, then left with a giggle. As I caught up with her, I could almost see a black wobbly slime on Shiori’s shoulder.
