When you get familiar with some recipes you enjoy they don't take much effort or focus to make, and most of the 'time' is unsupervised heating. While recipes are handy all a dish really needs is some veggies, a protein, some spices/seasonings for flavour and maybe a starch on the side. It's really more simple than people think.
