>>92724193This is actually an idea I wanted to get around to writing years ago (but never did because I wanted to get a better grasp on everyone's personalities and then got lazy). Might as well throw it in regardless of its merit to get it off my chest, just note its considerable age.
It was based on the Halloween thing (but not entirely the same), mainly focused on detective Kronii, bird Mumei and a bit of mad scientist Ina.
Kronii and Mumei aren't already familiar with each other and only meet when the former finds the latter wounded outside of that building. With no better ideas at the time, she drags her into her car and keeps her at home, doing the best she can to tend to her wounds. Kronii isn't sure what she's going to do with Mumei in the long run beyond figuring out who she is, but the latter doesn't remember much at that moment.
Ina calls her in the morning despite her personal number not being widely available and asks to meet her. She's still battered from Mumei's escape, but otherwise not too bothered. Kronii has a feeling she's up to no good and while she is indeed responsible for the mess, she actually wants the detective to keep the girl for now. "They" are watching and that development intrigues her enough to not bother returning her.
The story primarily focuses on Kronii trying to piece Mumei's identity together - which ends up much harder than expected because the girl is practically a ghost as far as everyone's concerned - and catering to her unusual physiology (which actually goes beyond bird woman) and general quirks. Ina occasionally visits them both to personally check their progress and because she was somewhat attached to Mumei before her transformation (which was actually consensual here, Ina just wants to immortalize people who would otherwise be forgotten by letting observers from elsewhere tell their tales while Mumei wanted to be remembered), but the latter doesn't remember her anymore.
Taking care of Mumei ends up being mutually beneficial as it helps Kronii alleviate her depression since she can't do her usual distancing routine in this situation. This ends up being somewhat necessary too because, on top of Mumei's condition proving rather demanding (going out into the forest and pretending to be her prey at 3AM to satiate her need to hunt is both dangerous and terrible for your sleep schedule), being constantly watched by otherworldly entities doesn't do her mental health any good.
Then things get dangerous when Mumei starts losing her shit due to her transformation being unstable and suffering from same problem as Kronii, but never telling her in time until she completely goes nuts and runs away. Ina develops a cure, but actually administering it is nigh impossible without immediately getting your face clawed out and tranqs have already been proven to not do anything the last time she went on a rampage. Instead of putting her down as suggested, Kronii decides to give the cure a shot anyway. She succeeds via a combination of dumb luck, the relationship they've established and the watchers being sufficiently invested in the story to let her bullshit her way through otherwise crippling injuries.
Everyone lives happily ever after, but Kronii notices a few scales while removing bandages a few days after the finale.
