Not to mention the amount of time one dedicates to a job renders you without time or energy for preparation of another career. Also you're factually wrong, you can check life resumes of famous people in the 60s or 50s and you can see a lot of them had a very colourful and diverse past of trades. Thats the case with many people in those times. Todays corporate monopoly does not suit such a lifestyle.
As for me, also kind of sad about the job prospects. Im a software developer but it seems most offers come from fintech, porn industry software or gambling platforms.
