You will see the futility behind status, career, relationships, finite bonds of love, and money, whether it is triggered by a loss of someone or something you valued or a grinding tedium of daily life. You will realise that, unlike in your teenage years, if you were suddenly to die, the world would not care too much.
When you go through this phase, know that it is common to all thinking men. Pick up some books that deal with existentialism and straighten yourself up. Don't grow old bitter and disappointed.
But enough gloom for today! I remember my 18th birthday. I celebrated it by smoking cigars and sipping booze with my friends on a balcony. A very liberating moment, haha. All the best, anon!
