I have an off topic question.
Is this place considered some sort of romantical asylum?
Can you tell about yourself, guys? Is there some sort of personality trait that makes us enjoy wallpaper art more frequent than other people do?
Is there any philosophical/phychological justification for this?

I've been coming here for about 15 years. Sometimes more, sometimes less. For a while, I only came for about a week every winter, on some kind of holiday tradition of finding new papes for the next year. I've always been very critical of my papes, and once got so tired of trying to find a perfect pape, I spent the better part of three years with a black screen. I doubt there is anything philosophical going on, though.

I think I just get bored of things pretty easily. I crave novelty and new experiences. I love traveling to new places, trying new foods, listening to new music, etc.

Changing my wallpapers on a weekly basis is an extension of that.

i think its just that after a bit of staring at the same screen when i turn my computer on i like something new, and its comforting having a bunch of options if i get bored of my current pape.

I like getting new papes because it completes the overall aesthetic of my setup. I have rgb everything, so If it's winter and I'm feeling sad af, ill change everything to green lights and my pape to rotate foggy forest backgrounds. There arent that many high definition papes so I come back here every once in a while and look for some new ones

If only started browsing 4chan since the pandemic. I'm often on /int/, /mu/, /o/, and /p/.
I browse this thread to find exceptional pictures by accident that I then download and use in my personal artistic projects. I found crazy stuff that I would not have searched by myself at first so I'm pretty grateful for all the kind anons who share these magnificent images.
Thinking about this, some of you don't even know that what you share sometimes ends up in my projects.

Not really. While some boards can be a bit nutty, /wg/, like some other boards, are a place to wind down and enjoy the collective interest in wallpapers. Because who wouldn't want to tidy their desktop to their liking.

They're pretty good yeah, I enjoy them a lot. I think they can't really share their papes in /pol/ because of how enormous it is, they would get lost. :/ Still the majority of threads here are awesome.

I come here in the early hours of the morning (currently 3am) when I'm feeling melancholy and wistful. Seeing papes, especially nature and dark ones, evokes an unusual calm within me. It's therapeutic because in my daily life I struggle to show emotions at all, and anything I do show feels adopted and fake. Art such as this helps reconnect me to myself when I'm otherwise feeling numb and listless. I'm not special for that, I know that I'm depressed, but I think a few other anons can relate to this feeling. At 3am it's my time, I don't have to work, I don't have to ride the bus, I don't have to contend with crowds of noisy, slow, rude people, my housemates are finally asleep and not making a racket. /wg/ is a refuge in that sense

There's a few reasons I do it. For reference, I use Hydrus Network to tag/organize my collection, currently at about 1700 files. I enjoy collecting, and these collections have no end. It's fun to try different tag combos and see what shows up. It's a kind of exploration. Also I just like the pretty images, especially ones with special emotional appeal to me. I also enjoy the hoarding aspect, knowing I'm never losing any of these things. And it's fun to be able to start and contribute to threads on /wg/. I rarely actually use any of my collection for wallpapers.

not anything deep, we just crave it
we aren't here to share our own current backgrounds or to find a replacement, no sense of vanity or greed. just want to look at pictures, and keep them for later.
