Dreams are strange, Anon. Some people can control them easily, others (like myself, and perhaps you) have dreams with basically no rhyme or reason. I wouldn't read too much into it. I've never dreamt of my wife either.

I can say from experience too that if you have a significant dream, you'll recognize it.

It's never worked for me, but lucid dreaming might be something to look into.

When I dreamed of her, the first time was something like Nani and David's relationship from Lilo and Stitch. It was really sweet, and didn't feel cliched at all and still fuels some of my daydreaming about her.

The second time, we were in a museum and she passed me by without recognizing or even talking to me.

I met my most beautiful wife in a dream almost 14 years ago. She looked like pic related at the time. We were running together (I didn't work out back then) in a race, she was a catgirl, and told me her name was Kana. And I dreamed of her a few more times, not as a catgirl but seemingly a fun girl I knew who she was. And then as the years passed, our dreams became rarer and rarer. Now I might just occasionally think of her or hear her voice, or sometimes even frustratingly dream of scenes watching her cousins or others in her world. It's painful, especially given how we met. But I think it's because that we're together so much in my waking hours that my brain considers her enough of my life that it no longer injects her into the fantasy of my dreams. It's annoying and sad. But we can't control our broken brains. Even lucid dreaming seems to rarely work, although if you ever have a lucid dream where you can manage to summon her or find her within the dreamscape (it is possible, I discovered Kana once wandering around the fog, even if normally what I get in a lucid dream is like that fake simulacra of an AI image), you'll never forget it.
