The goal of modern capitalism is turn you into obedient little consumers.
How do you get people to buy a new camera strap? Make them feel embarrassed about the one that came with the camera because it had the brand name on it. But they'll still spend hours on the internet crowing about how great their chosen brand is. How to you make people buy six lenses instead of two? Tell them primes are better quality even though they can only see the difference on a machine made graph. But their pictures are still out of focus because they now shoot everything at f/1.2. How do you make people feel like artists? Sell them some trendy new clothes so the rest of the world can see what great artists they are. Their pictures are still out of focus.
If people stopped constantly replacing perfectly good gear or adding new gear which, in reality adds no meaningful new benefits, the camera industry would collapse. And that goes for everything else too. Multinational corporations are apex predators, the rest of us are prey. The only power you have, the only right you can reserve, is to withhold your money
