Before the green garbed hero arrived, before the princess’s power arise, before the blade of evils bane, before the kingdom of Hyrule waned, there were kings and queens, soldiers and spies, all battling to keep the kingdom alive. They fought the king of evil’s might, but were all cast down into deepest night. Without their bravery no land would there be, for the hero in green to have set free. So come all ye listeners and harken to me, while I spin thee a tale about the heroes in mail. The common solider whose blood was spilled, to buy time for the hero with the iron will.

"We're still a few hours out yet. Why, you tired?" She goads only slightly less out of breath than you are.
Ignoring her barbs, you suck in a lungful of air and press on ahead of her, but only few steps later you find yourself trudging alongside the Sheikah scout again even more tired than before.
Thankfully the trail starts to even out again as you reach the crest of the mountainous cliff. "We should stop here and wait for the others to catch up. We wouldn't want to get too far ahead now, wouldn't we?" Sotrea says breathing hard as she sits down near the edge of the trail. Too exhausted to say anything you sit down next to her and look down over the edge of the cliff. Far below you, the rest of the caravan is slowly snaking its way up the cliff. You'd started the assent at dawn and now it was about mid-morning. By your reckoning it'll probably sometime after noon before the caravan finishes its ascent.

Five days of slowly marching this caravan of injured soldiers, refugees, and royalty through the countryside on your way to the village of the Sheikah, Kakariko. Now less than a day's journey from your destination. You feel the anticipation begin to rise in your chest as you think about what awaits you there. You're going to join the Sheikah, the shadowy hidden hand of the Royal Family. You the son of a fisherman from a small costal town are going to join the ranks of perhaps the most the elite of the royal bodyguards. You didn't know what to expect when you decided to become a solider, but it certainly wasn't this. You've come such a long way in such a short time that looking back its dizzying how quickly you've advanced. Then again, your path here has hardly been an easy one, let alone regular one. You've been faced with challenges that have nearly killed you several times yet somehow, you've scraped by and live to fight on.
Sotrea's hand waving in front of your face breaks you from your reverie. "Hey, Matthias, are you in there?"
"Sorry, I was lost in thought, did you say something?"
"Yeah," Sotrea says slightly annoyed. "I asked if you've seen a view like this before."

Watching the sun rise over the ocean is one of my fondest memories." You say picturing in your mind the gradually reddening horizon as the first few rays of sunlight peak over the water. You give a contented sigh and "What about you Sotrea, have you ever seen the ocean?"
"No, I haven't. I was born and raised in Kakariko, these mountains and valleys are my home. I haven't seen a body of water bigger than the village springs. But I've always wanted to see the ocean I've been hoping that one of our missions would take us there but so far most of my assignments have been to inland towns and villages." She lets out a sigh and gazes out over the landscape. "And as a Sheikah we don't really get days off, or the freedom to go where we please. We're bound to serve until the day we die or are too old to be of any use."
There is a deep sadness tinged with no small amount of regret in Sotrea's words. You'd never given your decision to sign up with the Sheikah much thought, in the heat of the moment you went with the choice that felt right but now hearing Sotrea's doubt, your own starts gnaw.
Why did you join Sheikah? And by extension why did you become a solider?

Sotrea snorts at your response, but you insist "No really try it. Close your eyes." She rolls her eyes at you, but then closes them. You close your own eyes and recall one of the many memories you have of the sun rising over the ocean. You describe to her the cool ocean breeze, the salt smell in the air, the sand between your toes, the sound of the waves lapping against the shore. You describe it all to her in the most detail you can manage. You get so lost in your own descriptions, that you almost don't notice when Sotrea rests her head on your shoulder. Your words eventually fall away and you and Sotrea simply spend a quiet moment on your imaginary beach together.
You don't know how long you and her sit like that on the edge of the cliff, but eventually Sotrea lifts her head from your shoulder. "Hey Matthias do you see that?" You open your eyes and follow Sotrea's gaze to a small cloud of something rising up from between two of the small hills on the green plains below. You squint hard at the cloud and try to discern its source.

The bridge that is where the charge will be made, but the army must make haste if this plan is going to work. To that end Prince Jinom enlists his brother's help and together the two of them get the column to exert itself a little more. Everyone, though already winded from the pursuit, picks up the pace and the draft animals are pushed to their limits. A risky maneuver, but it pays off as the column begins to match pace with its pursuers.
"Onward men, we'll outrun these Gerudo yet. Give me everything you've got." Rohm exhorts his men as they pile over the bridge. When the final wagon passes over, Jinom rallies his men for their charge
Ten knights and twice as many lancers array themselves before the Prince. Anticipation thickens the air as Jinom stands before them and removes his helm. "Men, Knights, Noble sons and brothers of Hyrule, take heed of my words! The Gerudo ahead of us think they have us on the run, that we are beaten, that all that remains is to ride down a bunch of cowards in flight. Show them otherwise. Show them the <span class="mu-g">Courage</span> of the men of Hyrule. Show them the fury of the men of Hyrule. Show them the steel of the men of Hyrule. Give them no respite, no quarter. Cut down and trample these invaders that murdered our king and betrayed us!" Behind Jinom, the first of the Gerudo pursuers charges onto the bridge, her fellows a disorganized trickle following behind. With a final big breath, Jinom slams his helm back on and turns his horse around. "Now forward men, For the Goddesses! For the King! For Hyrule!" He shouts and spurs his mount forward his men joining him in a <span class="mu-r">Wedge</span> as they thunder across the bridge lances down and shields up.

You guys are lucky the bridge plan worked out or you might of had a tough fight on your hands. The ground quakes as the charge speeds across the bridge. The thunder of hooves drowning out all other noise as the <span class="mu-r">Wedge</span> of knights closes with the first of the approaching Gerudo. Through his visor Jinom can see the look on the Gerudo's face shift from a wild war cry, to one of shock and disbelief, before finally twisting into one of terror. She attempts to stop and wheel her horse around but it is far too late. Her horse slips on the stone as it tries to stop and both horse and rider fall to the ground. Their screams go unheard as the trampling hooves of the knights’ ride over them.
The rest of the Gerudo finally catch on to what's coming and try to retreat and regroup but they aren't fast enough. One by one their disorganized formation is run down and the retreat becomes a rout. A few brave souls loose arrows from their short bows at the charging knights but none of the missiles find purchase through the knights' heavy armor. As the final foe, not fast or smart enough to run is struck down by a lance, Jinom lifts his visor to take stock. The bridge and the ground before it, are littered with dead Gerudo, the field has been won, for now. In the distance the Gerudo who managed escape meet up with the main body of their force it appears that those slain were only a vanguard and that the bulk of the enemy force still remains. They advance at a more sedated pace, being careful to maintain formation and avoid the same fate that befell their vanguard.
While the Gerudo still outnumber Jinom’s force, the destruction of their vanguard has significantly weakened them and put them on the back foot. Another successful charge might destroy them, or at the very least scatter them ensuring the Hylian army’s escape. Rohm’s words echo in Jinom’s mind, but the adrenaline in his veins and the victory cheers of his men are driving his heart forward.

If the vanguard had a bannerman Gerudo corpse, take her banner and cut it before letting it drop and walk over it with our horse. ContinuousQM !!lVJpPHWlL0z ID:GN385Yet Sat 13 Jan 2024 01:36:34 No. 5889523 Report With the Gerudo still a good distance out and advancing slowly, Jinom quickly concocts a plan. "Dismount men, gather the Gerudo dead and pile them into a barricade. If the Gerudo want to fight us, they'll have to advance over their own dead." The troops dismount and begin to drag the bodies of the Gerudo onto the bridge, after looting them of course. Although, looting the dead soon becomes the main goal of the men and only the more diligent among them continue to stack bodies. Jinom himself dismounts to get the troops back in line and encourage them. It is during this moment of vulnerability that the Gerudo strike. Jinom looks away from chastising the looters at the sound of approaching hooves. The Gerudo had closed far faster than anticipated. He shouts a warning to the men, yelling at them to remount and form up, but it is too late. Arrows come streaming in from the 40 some charging Gerudo as panicked men try to get back on their horses. The knights are pounded by arrows, but their heavy armor protects them and their horses from the worst of the attacks although the occasional shaft finds knightly flesh. The lancers fair far worse, both they and their mounts are struck repeatedly by shafts killing or severely wounding many of them as they try to pullback away from the lethal rain. As Jinom mounts his horse an arrow strikes and slides off of his helm leaving his ears ringing as a second shaft comes in behind his knee piercing the armor, but only scratching the flesh. Finally remounted, Hylians reform and Jinom himself has a chance to take stock.>2 damage applied to all knights >53 attacks at 5 damage applied across the lancers kills 11 and severely wounds 9 >Jinom takes 2 damage At the far end of the bridge the Gerudo had ridden in close before coming to a stop and forming a tight and thin line to maximize the number of troops firing. Their short bows and static position allowing them to pour arrows on Jinom's force. The Gerudo’s <span class="mu-r">Continuous Fire</span> had been effective, with most of the lancers killed or injured to some degree. Reacting quickly, the Gerudo disengage, pulling away from the melee and yielding the bridge to the prince's forces. Jinom orders a quick return to <span class="mu-r">Wedge</span> and a pursuit, but the Gerudo release volleys of arrows as they <span class="mu-g">Withdraw</span> harrying the knights and slowing their pursuit. After only a short chase, Jinom's battle lust clears and he realizes his pursuit is futile. He calls a halt and watches as the Gerudo flee over the horizon abandoning their attack on the marching army. With the enemy routed and the field in their possession, Jinom orders his men to tend to their wounds and check the field for survivors.
While the knights are fine, having only suffered the occasional bruise or minor wound, The lancers are in bad shape. None of them will leave this battle without scars. Of the eleven who had fallen only two are well enough to try to save the rest are either dead or too far gone to save, and are given the mercy of the goddesses. The injured lancers are given leave to go and seek treatment for their wounds, as well as to bring word to the king of this victory. The knights finish the dirty work of ending the lives of any Gerudo or beast still alive on the field. Their pained groans or cries of agony are silenced one by one.
As the battlefield quiets, Jinom looks over the carnage, surveying the destruction wrought at his men's hands. In the aftermath his blood cools and as it does the tired gears of his mind start to spin again. It is then that he notices something odd about the dead Gerudo at his feet. He had fought the Gerudo at the southern pass and been chased halfway across Hyrule by their army, yet the Gerudo lying in the dust before him looks nothing like the Gerudo that had forced him from the pass. She was thinner, leaner, a little smaller in size. Her weapons and armor were crude homespun things that would barely meet the standards of a peasant militia. Even her horse was on the small and malnourished side. These Gerudo were not the elite fighters he had faced in the south, these were conscripts, which begged the question if Gerudo elite weren't here, where were they? And why was only a harassing force sent after their army. These and other such questions plagued the young prince as he left the battlefield. His mind puzzling over his enemy's moves.

"You summoned me,"
"Ah Captain Laro, come have a seat." The Gerudo King gestures to the chair next to him. Laro sits as ordered and looks over the table covered in books before him. "Tell me captain, do you read?"
"I can,"
"Excellent, then you can help me on a little project. You see captain, among my people there are stories of powerful relics said to grant their wielder amazing powers and boons. Now while I have investigated many of these and found them to be false, a few of them have lived up to their legend. You saw an example of one such relic's power on the balcony." Gannondorf's demonstration of his magical far sight, flashes through Laro's mind making him shudder. "One such relic is said to reside here in the land of Hyrule I want you to go over your kingdom's records and find the location of this artifact for me."
"You want me to research legends and fairy tales for you?" Laro says disbelieving his own ears.
"If that's what you want to call them, so be it, all I ask is that you find it for me. A generous offer if there ever was one, to spend one's captivity reading story books I could think worse things one could be doing." Gannondorf says his last words tinged with a threatening tone.
Laro considers the offer. The Gerudo King is correct, research into bed time stories is one of the easiest things he could be doing, but at the same time it would keep you away from Gannondorf's more relevant plans, meaning that any information that could send to King Rohm would be of less strategic value, besides that if what Gannondorf said about his power is true and he did acquire it from some legend or fairy tale, could Hyrule afford for one of its sacred objects to fall into the enemy's hands?

Walk just a little further ahead and you'll come to an up rooted tree with tall grasses all around. That's where the sentries should be, don't try to hide just walk very quietly, you'll know if they're awake or not if you can make it past the tall grasses without a knife being thrown at your feet." You tread softly down the dirt trail Being careful not to step on any twigs or accidentally kick any loose stones. You are making good progress and as you approach the fallen tree that Sotrea had mentioned you're feeling pretty good about your chances of slipping past the sentries unnoticed. That is until a bird, startled by your approach, flutters up out of the grasses squawking frantically. You wince as the bird flies up into sky and a panicked voice from the grasses shouts out "Stop, who goes there."
"I'm a messenger from Impa, she sent me ahead to notify Kakariko that there's a large caravan of refugees coming and that you should make preparations to receive them." You say to the grasses. There is a long pause before the grasses on your right rustle and a boy, a few years younger than you, wearing a disheveled Sheikah outfit, with a shortbow in hand steps out onto the road.
"What?" he asks a confused look on his face, as strands of grass fall from his unruly head of silverish-white hair.
You sigh and repeat your message, the boy continues to stare at you with a puzzled look until finally Sotrea steps out of the grass behind the boy and smacks the back of his head. The boy jumps and shrieks spinning around and fumbling for an arrow from the quiver at his hip. Before his fingers find an arrow though, Sotrea snatches the bow from his fingers and thwacks him with it across the top of his head. The boy falls on his butt and looks up with fearful eyes as Sotrea looms over him.
"Mishko you boko brain, clean the gunk out of your ears and listen." Sotrea barks in a tone that is reminiscent of Impa's commanding voice. "The man said to prepare the village for some guests, a lot of guests. So, get off your ass and go tell the elder that Impa is back and that she's brought a lot of people who need a place to stay. Now, where is the other sentry? There's always supposed to be at least two of you watching the road."
"F-Fefen s-s-she-" Mishko begins to stammer before Sotrea cuts him off.
"They put Fefen out here with you?!" She shouts genuinely incredulous. sighing loudly, Sotrea runs her hand over her face. " Deliver the message to the elder, then go get Fefen, then two of you better get back here and be at your posts and AWAKE or Impa's going to hang the two of you up by your ears."

"Better I yell at him than Impa. Seriously, if she would have found him first. You would have heard some real shouting and she would have made him run back on all fours with his sandals in his mouth. And I shudder to think what she would have done with Fefen although Fefen might actually deserve it."
The two of you follow the path that. Mishko had run down at a more sedated pace along the way. Sotrea describes in vivid detail a few of the punishments Impa had given here when she'd first started out under her. A little walk further and you finally see it Kakariko village. It is nestled in a valley between three mountain peaks. With houses climbing part way up all three peaks. The houses themselves were of an unusual construction, you hadn't seen before, with oddly angled roofs and doors that slid open rather than swung. Sotrea starts talking excitedly pointing out little landmarks and important buildings as you descend into the valley. "Oh, you've got to try some of Zan's noodles everyone here says they're the best then you should..." Sotrea chatters on excitedly starting to pull you off the main road and down some side paths. You are tempted to let her take you, but the day is far from over and the last thing you want is to found slacking by Impa, at least according to Sotrea's stories it is.

It's probably the best food you've had since the Gerudo attack at the castle.
Zan keeps the drinks coming and you keep enjoying both them and the meal. You finish catching Zan up on the events that brought you here and Zan gives a solemn shake of his head.
"So, war has come to Hyrule and the nation must face it without its King. Dark times lie ahead."
"It's not as bad as it could be." You say, the effects of the alcohol maintaining your good cheer "The prince-er I guess king Rohm and most of the Royal Family made it out and the armies of Hyrule are still pretty intact, plus once our allies hear of the Gerudo's treachery they're bound to come to our aid."
"But you're down a castle, have an unproven leader at your head, and your army has yet to be rallied. While your enemies sit in a well-fortified position, with all their forces assembled before them, and are being led by a clever and powerful king. Maybe pessimism is getting to me in my age, but I don't think things could get much worse for you."
With Zan's sobering words echoing in your mind, You and Sotrea finish your meal and your drinks and leave. Once outside in warm noonday sun Sotrea says "Don't let what Zan said get to you, he's always kind of like that. No one goes to his place for the sparkling conversation. Oh, you've got to see The Great Fairy's fountain next c'mon." On the path up you pass by a few open-air structures in which you can see people of varying age groups performing training exercises. You don't have time to gawk though, as Impa leads you by quickly and you're soon passing by two guards whose garb is unmistakably Sheikah but with a lot more armor. As you enter the building proper an older man in a colorful flower-patterned robe greets you with a bow "Impa, the elder has been expecting you follow me please." You walk behind the man as he shuffles along at a pace far slower than the one you took to get up here. Obeying her command, you stand to the side of the door as she and the servant enter the room and slide the door shut. In the silence you can hear sounds of exertion coming from a nearby open window. >He's a barbaric berserker he killed men with his bare hands >He's a cocky and deceitful snake, he swaggered his way into the castle under the guise of trying to negotiate a peace then killed King. >The Gerudo King was charismatic and cunning tactician, he planned a well-executed coup in the castle and nearly managed to take out the entire Royal Family were it not for Prince Rhom's bravery and skill in battle. >[Write In] Anonymous

It is his sunning and charisma that allowed him to play the peaceable, noble savage when in fact he was just as ruthless and sophisticated a tactician as any more centralized and more 'civilized' enemy.

That he played the friendly, jolly, and peace seeking ruler until he was close enough to execute a well-planned assassination and invasion of Hyrule. He would have succeeded totally were not for Rohm's courageous stand.
The woman listens intently to your description of the Gerudo King. Nodding along thoughtfully while whispering her own observations under her breath.
When you finish the woman says "Very interesting, I believe I have the measure of the man now. Thank you very much, this will help me formulate our strategy in the coming days. If you have time I'd like you t-"
The woman is interrupted as the door to the chamber opens and the old attendant calls to you. "Matthias, the Elder will see you now."
"Drat, well when you have a moment, I'd like to speak with you again young man. Just tell one of the servants that you wish to speak with Purah." The old woman says before tottering off, leaving you with the old servant.
You enter the audience chamber and proceed to its far end, where Impa and an old woman more wrinkled than a raisin, are seated around a low table. The chamber is incredibly quiet and your soft foot falls seem to echo loudly on the wood floors as you approach two women. You stop before the table and look to Impa for instruction. She is calmer than you've ever seen before, her face the picture of tranquility. She shifts her eyes to you and says "A low bow is the appropriate greeting."
You hurriedly bow at the waist then remain standing until Impa tells you to sit. You wait for a long moment in silence as the two women sip their tea. While you wait, you take a good look at the Elder. She appears to be well over 100 years old her skin is dark and splotched with liver spots and other blemishes. Her skin is so shrunken and wrinkled that you can't even see her eyes, only the puckered slots where they should be. Her long silver hair is done up in an elaborate headdress that you're almost certain is the reason she so hunched. Both the silence and your gawking is interrupted by Impa "Matthias this is Iphath the Elder of Kakariko and head of the Sheikah. She will see if you are worthy to become one of us."

"Take her hands and look into her eyes, that she may judge your character." Impa says and you comply reaching your hands across the table. The Elder takes your hands and lifts her head to look at you. You watch as the puckered slits that are her eyes pull back to reveal the milky white irises of a blind woman. You stare into those unseeing eyes, unnerved at the sight of them, as Iphath "stares" unwaveringly at you. Your eyes begin to itch, but you find that you can't look away. There is a subtle glow behind the Elder's eyes and to your astonishment, a symbol, the red eye of the Sheikah reveals itself emblazoned on the surface of Iphath's eye. You are paralyzed, unable to move or even blink as those red eyes stare into you, seeing you, all of you. Your past, present, and future laid bare. Then the red symbol fades and you are freed. You pull away and rub your stinging dry eyes. Iphath relaxes and her eyes shrinking back to shriveled slits.
Letting out a sigh Iphath finally speaks "Oh child, are you sure this is what you want?" She says her voice surprisingly smooth and gentle for someone of her age. "When you became a soldier, you swore an oath to defend Hyrule and the Royal Family. Ever since then you've upheld that oath and always sought to fulfill your duty to the best of your abilities. You've shown your devotion to that cause through your willingness to sacrifice yourself time and time again. You are a great soldier, but if you are to become a Sheikah you must cast all that away. Your duty will be to something greater than a kingdom. For the truth is we Sheikah do not protect Hyrule the Kingdom, we protect Hyrule's very existance. To protect Hyrule itself, you must be willing to sacrifice not only yourself, but your friends, your family, and the world as you know it. So, I will ask you child, are you willing to sacrifice everything for the sake of Hyrule. To not flinch even in the face of unbearable torment and the loss of everything you hold dear. "So, are you ready?" She asks "There's just one last place you've got to see."
"Ready and willing,"
"Good, originally I was going to show you the hot springs, but I saw that Naza beat me to it. I think the place I’m going to show you might just be better though."
Sotrea takes you away from the lights of the village, up onto one of the mountain slopes. The two of you sit down beneath the canopy of a large tree and Sotrea snuffs out her lantern. "Now watch." She whispers and as your eyes adjust to the dark you see it. Dozens of fireflies dance, whirl, and blink in the air around you creating a wondrous show of flitting lights. "If you lie down and look up, you'll really see something awesome." Following Sotrea's lead you lay back onto the grass and look up. A vast sea of stars greets your eyes and between stars sway the glowing lights of fireflies, like little boats floating on an astral sea.
"You know this is the first time I've ever taken someone to see this. Most everyone here, well, they feel too much like family and anyone who's a Sheikah... they don't want get too attached." Sotrea turns over to look at you. "You took the oath and became a Sheikah today, didn't you?"
"I did," You nod.
"When I took my oath, I was so excited." Sotrea says a bitter smile on her face. "All of the training I'd done was finally going to be useful I was going to go out and do amazing things and see all the stuff I'd heard about from the other Sheikah. But I told you how that turned out. After all this time I finally realized what I swore myself to the day I made my oath. I swore to be imprisoned, chained to a job and duty for the rest of my life. Never to be free to do what I want, what I need to do. And now you've sworn that same oath." She says, tears wetting the corners of her eyes. "And now you're going to start your training and I'm off to goddesses only know where on Impa's next mission. And I don't know when or if I'll come back. Promise me something Matt," she says wiping at the tears on her cheeks "Promise me you won't change, that even through all of the training that you won't and that no matter what we'll see the ocean someday. Swear it to me above your oath as a Sheikah, please Matt, swear it to me that together we'll stand on the shore and live that moment we shared on the cliff. Please."
Looking into Sotrea's tear streaked face your heart aches to say yes, but what of the oath you just swore can you place Sotrea ahead of your duty to the Sheikah and to Hyrule.

Okay anons I will give you a choice, it will take two years for Matthias to finish his Sheikah training. In the meantime, the war for Hyrule will be fought. Now, currently Hyrule's forces are scattered, their capital taken, and their king is dead, but the Queen and the heir, now King, are alive and still willing to fight. So on the War Progress Scale, Hyrule is a 3 out of 10. Now you can accept this current situation as default and have it remain for the next two years or you can roll for the progress to shift in one of two ways. Do a general roll for the results of two years of fighting with the progress shifting up or down by 1 or 2 points, or take the war season by season (8 seasons) choosing the princes' strategy for each one and rolling to see if it succeeds or fails.
So how do you want to handle this?

"If you want safety how about Fort Barten," Jinom suggests, putting his finger on a point in the western mountains. "Mountainous terrain, single entry point, exposed approach. It'd be pretty easy to hold that place, if don't mind having to put in a lot of elbow grease. The place has been abandoned for a while now. There's also the cold and the fact that the place becomes rather inaccessible to friend and foe alike during the winter months. If you want safety though, look no further."
"Safety is a priority, but so is accessibility, if we're going to be bringing in men and supplies, as well as coordinating with our allies." Queen-Dowager Hilma says tapping a spot in south central Hyrule "I suggest we use the summer palace at Kolomo. It's centrally located with good road access, it draws fresh water from Lake Kolomo which protects it on a least one side, and it allows us to keep an eye on traffic coming from the south. Should enemy reinforcements come from there we'll know far in advance."
"Sure mother, but it will take a lot of work to fortify that place and in the meantime, we'd be awfully exposed." Jinom says rubbing his neck.
"What about Goponga?" Rohm says "Out here in the east. It's at the convergence of the Regencia and Tamio rivers with good roads as well. We've got a lookout post there and if we fortify it and the crossings, we'd have a decent position."
"Yes, we might also be able to stop any rivers traffic down from the castle. I like it." Adds Jinom.
Hilma shifts uneasily and clears her throat "We could but it would mean violating the treaty your father made with the Zora after the Drought War. We promised never to fortify that area. It was like pulling teeth to get them to agree to let us keep the lookout post there. It's your call son, but let's try fighting only one war at a time please."

For some context, the Drought War was fought between the Hylians and Zora over access to the rivers and fresh water sources that run through the land. During this war a drought happened and in combination with the Zora some how cutting off the flow of water to the rivers, Hyrule dried up and the king was forced to sign a peace treaty with the Zora acknowledging their dominion over all fresh water sources in Hyrule large enough for a Zora to swim in. In practice what this treaty meant was that the Hylian's must limit fishing and pollution in fresh water sources and pay the Zora a fee based on cargo transported on the rivers and tolls at bridges and other river crossings.

"And mind your manners Jinom these aren't your drinking buddies be tactful and polite." The Queen-Dowager adds.
"Yes Mother." Jinom rolls his eyes, feeling like a child at court again.
"Impa I want your people close for now. We're still vulnerable and our enemies may try to end us before we've begun. I want you to ensure our safety and make sure no harm comes to me or my family."
"As you command my king." Impa says with a bow.
"We all have our tasks let's get to them." Rohm exits the tent and begins giving commands to start moving the camp.
Who will Jinom visit first on his diplomatic mission?
> The Goron's they were good friends of your father and will likely be well disposed towards us. > The River Zora, while once enemies, relations between your two peoples have normalized somewhat in recent years. It might be wise to gain their aid, or at least their neutrality in the coming conflict. > The Rito, even though they are a rather insular people with limited contact with outsiders. They do partake in a decent amount of trade with the Hylians who live near their mountainous home. If you can secure their help it would be a mighty boost to your cause to have allies capable of flight. > The Ocean Zora, distinct from their fresh water cousins are perhaps Hyrule's biggest mercantile partners. On the approaches Death Mountain, the ground becomes drier and rockier, farms become grazing lands before transitioning to solid rock and gravel slopes.
Jinom's party begins its ascent up the road that will lead them to Goron City, or more accurately to Goron City's main entrance. One could say that all of Death Mountain is Goron City since its tunnels worm and wend their way through the bulk of the volcanic mountain. Along the way, Jinom and his men pass by a few mines and Goron's pulling huge carts of ore. A few of them stop to wave at Jinom's group, one even bellows a greeting in Hylian as they ride through.
After an exhausting climb that leaves the horses lathered breathing hard, Jinom comes to the massive metal doors of Goron City. He dismounts and announces himself to the two heavily armed and armored Gorons guarding the door. They respond cordially saying that their Chieftain, Darman, has been expecting them and to proceed to the Chieftain's Hall. The massive doors are slowly pushed open enough for Jinom and his guard to enter. Beyond the door the first thing to strike Jinom is the heat, it had been getting steadily warmer as the group climbed but now so close to the central cauldron of the volcano it was as hot as a summer’s day. The heat was quickly forgotten however at the sight of the markets of Goron City. Nestled in an outer crater of the volcano, the markets sprawl all over the crater floor and up its sides. The central thoroughfare is lined with shops selling trinkets, gems, precious metals, and unique spices that only grow on Death Mountain. Behind the shops lay workshops of all kinds, working the wealth dug from the ground into a multitude objects. Gorons bustle about the streets on both business and pleasure and there is scarcely room for Jinom and his entourage despite the Goron Guards clearing a path.

Hewn from the rock of the Mountain the hall has a rough feel to it, but the construction is sturdy enough that one feels safe under its roof. "Greetings Hylians and welcome to Goron City." The large and well-built, Chief Darman says, greeting Jinom warmly with a large toothy grin, a handshake, and a hug that if the Chieftain had put a little more strength into would have crushed bone. "Prince Jinom is that you? My how you've grown last time I saw you was when you were this tall." The Goron says gesturing to bellybutton height on himself.
"I remember Darman, father brought everyone here to enjoy the markets and thermal baths of your city."
At the prince's words Darman's smile shrinks into an apologetic look. "You have my condolences young prince, to think your father would be stuck down in his own castle. It's an outrage."
"Too true Darman it's why I've come here, to ask for your help in avenging this outrage."
"You'll have it my boy. Well some of it." He says sheepishly. "We've got Bokoblins moving into the eastern side of the mountain, encroaching on our new tunnels. Most of my warriors are out dealing with them so I'm afraid I can only offer a few fighters at the moment, but as soon as we've ground those swine into the rock, you'll have all the skull smashers I can spare."

"Yes?"
"That means your problems are my problems."
The Goron Chieftain breaks into a wide grin and lets out a belly deep laugh. "Ha, you're right should have known better. Leave it to a son of Bos to teach a Goron about friendship. Alright if you want to help, I won't stop you. LIGGS!" Darman shouts and a rather lanky, at least by Goron standards, Goron jogs into the room. "Lead Prince Jinom and his men here to our fighters in the eastern side of the mountain. They wish to help crush the Bokoblins causing trouble out there." Darman turns back to the prince placing his hand on Jinom's shoulder. "Now you be careful out there and come back safe you hear? And thanks for doing this."
"Like I said Darman we're friends, we help each other."
Darman's grin widens and he gives Jinom's shoulder a squeeze before releasing him. Jinom returns the Goron's infectious smile then departs to gather his troops for a Bokoblin hunt.

Liggs says he's taking the safest route, making Jinom wonder what the less safe route was. Nearing the last known location of Darman's warriors, Liggs stops and puts his ear to the ground.
"The stone trembles, our warriors must be fighting nearby. Either that or we're in for an eruption."
Trying not to imagine tons of cascading rocks and lava washing over them on the narrow trail, Jinom unsheathes his sword and orders his men to do the same. Coming around a bend in the trail, the prince can feel the ground shaking beneath his boots as well. Soon shouts and the clang of metal reaches his ears and he starts to increase his pace until, clearing one last turn in the trail he spots them. Darman's warriors are in an enclosed ravine amid a veritable sea of red Bokoblins. Each of the Goron warriors is an island in that sea of red, clad in thick metal armor and wielding massive iron clubs that they swing as easily as sticks, the Gorons stand their ground each swing of their club sending a Bokoblin flying. Despite this amazing display, it's obvious that the Goron's are in a tight spot. They are strung out and isolated, each Goron fighting his own battle and while they are strong and well protected, they are tiring and the Bokoblins are closing in tighter using every opening to try and bring down one of the Goron's.

Jinom keeps his speech short this time. Not wanting to let the Bokoblins hear his pep talk. Leading the charge, Jinom with his knights, men-at-arms, and Sheikah bodyguards descend into the ravine. Few of the Bokoblins spot the attack and shout warnings, but the sea of red skinned monsters is too slow to react. With a battle cry of "HYRULE!" Shouted at the last moment the force of Hylians slams into the Bokoblins cutting through them like a ship through waves. The Bokoblins are forced to flee in a panic or die where they stand. Slicing down one Bokoblin then another Jinom reaches the first of the beleaguered Gorons. The Goron is blood spattered and breathing hard, but obviously relieved at the arrival of reinforcements.
>20 attacks at 18 damage a piece kills 30 Bokoblins. ??? Bokoblins remain. "Are you the leader of this group?" Jinom asks.
"No, Darbus was at the front. He's somewhere further down this ravine." The Goron says pointing the deeper into the mass of the Bokoblins. As he does so, a dark blue figure rises above the ocean of red. It blows a horn and starts snorting, squealing, and chirping giving orders in strange Bokoblin speech. The fleeing Bokoblins stop and solidify once more turning to face the new threat.
"Hope you’re ready, Hylian because here they come." The Goron says hoisting his club and bracing himself for the coming fight.

It succeeds, using its full weight to drag the shield down exposing Nagos, but no Bokoblin is able to exploit the opening as with a quick thrust Jinom ends the life of the clinging Bokoblin and blocks a deadly swing from a Bokoblin club aimed at Nagos. Shrugging the dead Bokoblin off of his arm Nagos raises his shield again with a “Thank you sire.”
>13 damage dealt by 17+1 Goron troops kills 19 Bokoblins, your men suffer no damage this round >56 Bokoblins remain. The Bokoblins continue to swarm over Jinom’s men but over the shouts of men and swine. Jinom catches the sound of Goron voices, <span class="mu-i">I must be getting closer to the trapped Gorons</span> he thinks as another Bokoblin falls to his blade.

Hold!” Jinom shouts as another Bokoblin hammers at his shield with its club causing his shield arm to numb under the continuous assault. Sir Nagos thankfully spills the Bokoblin’s guts with a deft cut, alleviating the pressure on the prince. The blue Bokoblin blows a series of sharp blasts on his horn screeching animatedly, but his men take no heed of his orders and continue to attack the Hylians.
Suddenly there is a loud roar and a Bokoblin is sent flying over the heads of your men. Peeking up over his shield Jinom sees a towering Goron throw a terrifyingly powerful punch that mashes a Bokoblin into the dirt. It would appear that those you came to save no longer need saving.
>11 damage dealt by 17+1 Goron troops kills 17 Bokoblins, your men suffer no damage this round > 15 damage dealt by 11 Goron troops kills 13 Bokoblins >26 Bokoblins remain. As if finally coming to their senses, the Bokoblins start to break apart. No longer hungering for blood, they seek to save their own and scatter. The blue Bokoblin blows his horn a few more times, but discards it in disgust before trying to run away with its fellows. There is nowhere to go though and together Jinom and the Goron’s slaughter the remaining Bokoblins as they try to force their way through, or desperately try to scrabble up the sides of the ravine. The blue is the final Bokoblin and as the large Goron corners him, he tires to ram his sword into his attacker, but the blade is deflected off of the thick metal plates armoring the Gorons belly. The Bokoblin is not given another chance to attack as with a clap of his mighty hands, the Goron crushes the Bokoblin’s skull like a melon between his hands.

Thanks for the help.” He says wiping bits of Bokoblin off of his hands. “What bring you here so far from your home?”
Jinom explains his deal with Darman and his purpose for coming to their rescue.
“Well, you certainly have good timing. I was starting to think that I was going to be the only one walking out of here.” The Goron says with a hearty laugh “The name’s Darbus and I’m the leader of our warriors.”
“Not to be rude, but it doesn’t look like you have many warriors left.” Jinom says glancing at the dozen or so Gorons still standing and at the half a dozen or so unmoving Goron bodies.
Darbus “Ha, this lot, this is just a patrol, I’ve got a bunch of groups like this scouring this side of the mountains for where the Bokoblin’s have made their camp. Usually its pretty easy, just follow the big column of smoke and the smell of roasting meat and you’ll find them. They’re being unusually sneaky this time.”
“You mean this group of Bokoblins wasn’t it.” The prince says incredulously “There’s easily over a hundred of them here.”
“Yup an there’s likely to be more at their camp. Although I’ll say that this group was pretty large. They must have really wanted me dead, though they’ll have to try harder than that if they want to bring down the mighty Darbus.” He shouts that last part out loud whether in boast or to frighten eavesdropping ears the prince is unsure. “Come I’ll take you to our base on this side of the mountain. We can tend to our wounded and talk safely there.”
The two groups head off together to the Goron’s base, a large cave dug into the side of the mountain. Big enough to easily hold hundreds of Gorons and the prince’s men as well. After seeing to the wounded Darbus takes Jinom to the back of the cave to a cordoned of section where he lays a marked-up piece of slate before the prince.

We’ve searched all of the areas higher than our current position here he says jabbing a large finger at a position a quarter of the way down from the peak and found nothing. So, where ever the Bokoblin’s are they must be somewhere down here. We’ve searched most of the main paths and found no signs of their passage so they must be climbing up and down the cliffs, or using tunnels we don’t know about. We know that there’s a lot of them so where ever they are has to be big enough to hide them and a whole lot of supplies either that or they’ve got a fast way to bring in groups of Bokoblins from the low lands. I’ll leave it up to you how you want to use your warriors, but I’ll keep mine patrolling lower and lower until we’ve rooted out those swine.”
How does the prince aid the search?
> Investigate how the Bokoblins are moving around the mountain without using the main trails. Then you can follow one of their groups back to their base. > Search for areas that would be large enough to contain a Bokoblin camp. It would be the fastest and most direct way to resolve the search. > Help patrol with the Gorons, an extra pair of eyes couldn’t hurt and slow and methodical approach is most likely to see results here. >[Write in] Anonymous

"C'mon it'll put some gravel on your chest." Darbus coaxes taking a large bite of his definitely more rock than roast, rock roast. Jinom politely declines and is saved from further proding by the return of his scouts.
The Sheikah report that while some of the Bokoblins at the ambush site were carrying crude climbing tools. That is not how this group arrived. There were tracks, barely concealed that led to a "cave" just big enough to crawl through. Going through the cave deposited them further down the mountain where they encountered more tracks which they followed to another low cave. Repeating that process a few more times led them to a much larger cavern where they found the Bokoblin encampment.
The encampment itself was well defended with a palisade made out of boulders, manned by several lookouts. The Sheikah report that while they couldn't get much closer lest they be discovered, they did notice that besides the tunnel they crawled in through, there was a much larger opening on the other side of the encampment that, through a haze of smoke and heat appeared to lead outside. Working with Darbus and his map, the Bokoblin camp is pinpointed.

Clever little piglets." Darbus muses. "Well, we know where they are, there's just one problem only us Goron's will be able to use the main entrance. You Hylians won't be able to withstand the heat or noxious fumes down by the lava pits. Don't worry though now that we've found them, we Goron's should be able to handle it from here." Darbus says with a proud smile. "The only thing we'd need you for is to watch the other exit and kill any rats that flee our slaughter."
"I could take my men through the cave my scouts used and attack from the other side, make it a two-pronged assault." Jinom says
"Sure, and I wouldn't turn down the help, but if things go bad on your side my warriors won't be able to help."
Jinom nods thoughtfully "What about a siege? If we block off their entrances and exits, we wouldn't even need to fight them just starve them out, or collapse their passages totally and leave them to die in the dark."
"That could work, but it would take some more scouting we'd need to make sure to find and block off all their ways out, then stick around to make sure none of them dig their way out. We could handle that on our own, but we'd be a little late coming to help you in your war."
Mulling things over carefully the prince decides to...
