Actually yeah, there not being a garage door really bothers me given that the pod on the other side doesn't have an airlock room but you still have to go through the garage to get to it which would be fine if only there was a garage door and this area could be pressurized.
Not to mention it seems like there's no way for those people at the top to actually escape from the dome because even if there was a hatch, it would lead to the depressurized garage.
That and the fact that the garage is literally just a big box with a technic piece on the front of it. It's getting harder to not notice it every time I look at it.

I would be more compelled to get it if there were plans for an accompanying castle line similar to the modulars. Maybe a modular castle or castle town.
But this is just a single blacksmith shop. The creator castle doesn't even fit the scale. Barracuda Bay is a nice stand alone. But this?

Yeah it is becoming overrun with real life replicas which means the theme is basically being thrown down the licensed hellhole. It's just uninspired real stuff and all the companies seem to be throwing themselves at LEGO to get their brand in on it.

I even used to like not-real large models, like pic related, it's how I learned a transmission worked when I was 10 years old or so. (Also are these tires still the biggest ever made? the honkers are massive, and the suspension on this thing is stiffer than normal).

I am still a sucker for the technic bricks integrating with basic lego, I don't enjoy building the new liftarm centric stuff as much. It literally hurts to put together.

Anyway like with the 4x4, they put cool features in like the door opening upwards with pneumatics, and a little step also pops down. Thats neat!

I'd love for a company to work with LEGO on a futuristic concept car or something rather than just a literal scale model, those are just so uninteresting.

Anyway, here's my 488 GTE I just finished adding lights to. I definitely don't wish that these replace original Technic kits, but the Porsche and this are the only Lego I've wanted to own in +10 years. I'm very much hoping they get Toyota to join too, because the Ford cars are all bad. I want a GR Yaris or TS050.

Nah, /lg/ hates licenced themes in general. In my opinion, licenced themes are oversaturated and lazy, it's an easy way to make sets that fly off the shelves because they have a pre established fanbases, instead of cultivating an audience. That is to say, I have against fans of licenced themes.

Sorry for the off topic, but it's a Jamara toy grade RC M8 GTE, had to snag it up from a local brick and mortar since it looked really solid for a cheap snap together kit. Planning on airbrushing it so I haven't added the included stickers yet.

I love lego, but its way over priced for what you get in the box these days. I would like to continue collecting lego, but the price to stuff ratio is just too out of wack for me.

But brio world has a very similar asthetic to lego city, including minifigs now, and for less than a lego set of about the same size, you get really nice wooden play sets.

Plus brio just released a train that puffs real steam as it puts around the track.

Dumb question, but does anyone know what the numbers on the bottom of lego pieces mean? I've always wondered. I know one of them is the part number, for example a 2x2 square tile has a 3068 as the part identifier, but there's also numbers that vary from piece to piece such as "8-39," or "10 39"

Are these like numbers that identify a specific molding machine that made the part so that if there's a defect they can trace it back to a specific molding machine?

On other pieces, such as 6134 the numbers are like "8-04" or "6-07" which made me think these were month / year of manufacture or something but that doesn't make sense for a molding machine because all the tooling for those molds is metal and they're not switching them out every month for some bullshit like a date.

Glad to see Lego doing Space sets again. Though it would be nice to see a proper space them. We haven't gotten one since Galaxy Squad (which probably flopped for being too similar to Star Wars). I use to work with a guy who had autism. He was functional, but you could tell within about 10mins of being with him that he had the 'tism.
Dude fucking had money. Like he once opened a bank statement while I was standing behind him and I casually looked over his shoulder and the statement said he had just shy of $300k in the bank. He was only like 24. And it wasn't because of rich parents or some other sort of luck, but because all he did was work. He averaged about 10-11 hours a day, 5 days a week, plus an extra 6-7 on Saturdays. He rarely took time off sick and had to be forced to take holidays by the boss.

The own the NXT2 set, kept me hooked for a few weeks but at the time that was really the only technic I had and the NXT2 set had a pretty shite selection of parts. Felt like I couldn't build much with it outside of that builds in the manual. I guess it goes without saying that you want a good variety of parts to get the most out of lego, but when you're trying to build robots or machines you can run out of gears and liftarms real fucking fast.

I should dig that set out again and try building shit with it some time, I own a lot more technic now I bet I'll have an easier time trying to build what I want without running out of parts.

Also if you aren't really good at programming you need a lot of patience trying to trial and error a program for your robots. I imagine that's the part that will lose a lot of people, building the robot is always fun but actually trying to program it can be a bitch unless you actually know what you're doing.

Thinking about it, I would also remove the beds from the dome and make it a control center. I'd then move the living quarters and greenhouse into a an annex with transparent panels. You could cannibalize the ugly space station for this.
The new garage would be easy to add, since the whole structure is angular anyway.

Unlike systemcrap, Bionicle stuff needs to be buildable and articulate. Besides, MOCs with no gaps look soulless. It’s why I refuse to mix system stuff and Bionicle/CCBS pieces.

Good set if you dig trains but there's a few flaws that are easily fixable. First up if you don't remove the rubber bands at the front it'll derail pretty easily (The ones in the center are fine). Also there's a pretty noticeable gap between the segments to allow it to go through the curves, but there's a few guides available online that provide an easy fix that fills the gap while allowing it to go through curves. Here's what it looks like unmodded with the gap

I think the one little submarine would probably fit that bill well enough without needing drastic changes, though the aesthetic doesn't match their "nu" styles so they'd ruin it anyway. It would almost be worth it to get some large trans-green pieces in production again, but knowing TLG they'd find a way to screw that up too.

I'm surprised you've never used these giant transparent green panels. They're the biggest trans green parts available, it'd fit the bill.

There's also the giant 10x10 trans green dome, part 2598 on BL.

Those two parts are way cooler than any of the other trans green windscreen offerings IMO

I still got a lot of ideas around those details. It started with propulsion system in the wheel wells but I left that idea. I tilt towards round side cannons now looking like wheels. Tail lights are rear thrusters right now.

Is there a way to gently remove scratches from really old parts? I have some of those gigantic half dome transparent blue pieces from those old sets from the 90s but they were in gigantic tubs with other pieces for decades and are now all scratched up to shit.

I think if I did aggressive polishing it would work, but would screw up the sharp edges on the piece and make them look worse.

I have one of the domes for a future project, namely the headquarters base for the operation. The larger pieces would be nice but the only store in Canada with any has two, and wants 100 maplebucks apiece... Even going with the four cheapest listings in North America it'll easily add up to at least that much to get four like I'm envisioning. Since I keep pushing the base construction back there's still a chance I'll get my hands on some by then, but we'll see.

I got it two weeks ago. It looks really nice. Except for the tree trunk the build is kinda repetive and building the leaves is horrible. But it's still a great minifig scale tree and great ressource for long brown tiles and small round tiles. I'll keep it around for a while and then break up the stand for some halftimber houses.

So I’ve got a few hundred Bionicle figures in storage. I have painstakingly sorted through my entire collection, I reckon about 8 years went by before I opened up the bins and attempted to make sense of what was in them. I’ve listed all of what I have by name and lego catalogue #, most are missing box and instructions, some are missing a few pieces that I have also gone through and listed according to the part ID and linked to Bricklink. I have the majority of figures that were released between 2001-2007 with varying completeness, but many have been kept in good condition with no missing parts except for the canisters which are what carry most of the market resale value. Stupid ADHD and parents messy hoarding and being unable to plan for the future when the complete figures would be more valuable, but there’s still a hefty haul here that I’d like to sell. Is it worth selling them individually? I even finally went through and took pictures of all of them. The data has been compiled in a doc which I will also be converting to a spreadsheet. If I tried selling the entire lot in bulk I’d ask for no less than $700, but I feel like I could get more. Anons?

Should I be going by the prices on bricklink? I feel like I should be getting all my ducks in a row before I even attempt to make listings or begin to sell, but the vast bulk of the work has been done so that I don’t have to take them back out of their bins. The only thing i really dislike about the roadplates is that they are relatively expensive and most of all parts intensive to make a good street out of with raised sidewalks.
I don't mind them, but I won't be switching over either any time soon.

What I do really like is that they are easier to reuse for purposes besides being a street or baseplate.

I build a lego box and put this guy inside it and I filled it with water and on the outside and froze it overnight, I had it hidden inside a cupboard (pretending it's a cave) and some explorers going on an adventure trying to explore the cave and uncovering this trying to break it apart seeing what was inside not realising they unleashed an old forgotten hidden evil entity. Loved this sort of stuff as a child.

Why has Lego become so incredibly lazy in terms of new themes? Monkie Kid is the only worthwhile theme they put out recently. They basically spend the last 10 years releasing licence shit with lost potential. Think I had one of the small sets (or my brother did) back in the day but the line came out around when I entered my dark age. Great color scheme though so years later I built them a repurposed battlecruiser to explore frozen wastes across the galaxy.

Too much Spyrius scum in this thread! Here's a Space Police I transport cruiser to help keep some order.

It fits 5 officers in the front cockpits and two of the oldschool jail pods on the back wings.

The back wings can fold in when there are no jail pods attached, and the top engines hinge down to latch the pods into place.

Noticed some weird discoloration in some older blue minifigures. It's hard to tell from this photo but the arms on the torso are a darker shade of blue that is not dark blue, they were originally the same color as the torso. Not sure how this happened, none of these figures were ever exposed to direct sunlight and most have been stored in my drawers in a windowless closet for decades now.

You can see one of the legs is discolored too, how did this happen? Anyone else experience it with older blue pieces?

The pieces are from a figure from 2007 by the way. It's not that old, but it's just very strange to see this kind of discoloration affect one leg and just the arms of this figure. I assume it's a plastic quality issue from back when this was manufactured.

Blue has had a few bad runs. IIRC the late 80s and mid 2000's had a bunch of "brittle blues". It has a weird discoloring and is a lot easier to break.

I have tons of other blue pieces from the same era that are fine.

I've noticed some are just really bad now, the color has changed completely do a darker blue.

It's only in the arms, that leg, and I've seen it in a few other pieces such as technic 1x1 blue studs.

Man, my blue pieces from over 30 years ago still look fine man, this is just a defect in the plastic. Plastics don't degrade that fast and they only do when they're sitting in direct sunlight for years being exposed to UV radiation.

I also think this is the main problem, but technic will still always have a place in system. It's impractical and clunky to build anything large without using it as infrastructure. Try making a starship or any vehicle with 6+ big wheels without a technic skeleton. I think people just miss when technic was about making backhoes and shit instead of some dust collecting Audi or whatever they're doing.

This morning I tried to remove the arms and they just snapped right off, it's one of those brittle blue situations I guess. Parts were from 2007 like I guess and I'm assuming something went wrong with a batch of plastic they used and it resulted in their blues being brittle that year.

Look at the arms compared to arms from a minifigure that's from the early 1990s that still looks like the same color it did when it was originally made, and doesn't snap off or anything.

Typically those kind of consists would only have an engineer in the front end when driving from point A to point B who would just change seats to the rear end once he needs to drive from point B to point A.

one locomotive driver and one main conductor
when train reaches destination and has to go back, they just move to other end - driver always takes front seat, conductor usually spends time in 1st free car/cabin. locomotive driver sits in cab and controls the way train goes, slows down, speed up etc

conductor is like main administrator, makes sure train is ready to departure station, checks doors, checks for any visible technical failures... and also takes care of possible suiciders who jump on rails. one of my family members works as train conductor and he says this is the worst part of his job when they have to deal with this mess

One. In olden days before the engine was part of train, to change directions the engine had to be uncoupled from the train, and traveled to back of the train and recouple up. But with two cabs, the train driver only needs to walk to other cab to turn the train around, as both cabs contain a set of controls.

Your MOC reminds me of this ship. I saw it here posted once or twice in about 2016. A fellow anon helped me figure out how it was built and I made it my own. Never knew who made this first, but it's a pretty fun build.

Did you guys ever use a main character fig when you played with Lego as a kid?
I used the knight from the Black Monarch’s Ghost set but swapped out his head for a skeleton head at some point. Later on I kept all the armor but swapped his body out for a Blacktron body. Used him as the leader of my preferred figs and the figs I didn’t care for turned into a band of “rebels” that had access to all the pieces and parts I didn’t use for my main builds. Looking back now, I feel bad for the rebels. They were up against an undead space knight that hoarded all the goodies and gold.

My man! Good choice there to go from Pepper with. I did a little more thinking and oddly enough after Pepper I went a bit backwards instead of forwards like you did. Ol Spiky here really took off for his unique shape and color, not to mention how alien and compact he is compared to minifigs

I used to use Sparks from rock raiders a lot, then switched over to the knights from fantasy era, slowly replacing parts from them over time, but always using their torsos. Now my main OC fig is a little wandering knight.
