Nah they are dude, that's why the blacksmith is such a perfect subtle encapsulation of the entire castle theme, because even the things in it that might have nothing to do with quintessential castle theme elements are still 100% rooted on danish culture which all the good classic castles derive from. Brick Controller 2 will let you piggy back a gamepad off the phone controls, so you get the tactile analog controls of the old IR stuff, but with a bluetooth range of 20m+ rather than the IR's 1m~. It's win/win.

I'd recommend a BuWizz as well, it's a high performance power pack with bluetooth RC built in, it will let you program custom everything and give you finer control over every motor and sensor, the XL motors in particular really benefit from the extra juice.

Generally speaking I like shit like like pic related, transparent draws of differing sizes, able to be removed completely to use as little sorting trays etc

I've noticed the piece variety is much more varied in sets than a moc. Even larger sets where you notice an interesting new piece or new color of a piece, you won't see that piece used very often. And, unless it is a vehicle, there will be very little repetition to a build. Even for something basic.

I never understood how Germans get thousands of the same minifig or obscure parts, even if they buy lots stolen from Lego factories, it doesn't make sense as to how they haven't been caught; Bricklink doesn't do shit about it either
Lego must have dogshit security protocols, there were also a ton of weird minifigs going around (translucent/glow in the dark minifigs) that weren't authorized to be made, nor were they used as test prints, meaning some faggot employee went in there and made them himself, then walked out like nothing ever happened

I'm almost certain it's some obscure country with a Lego factory; my guess is the one in czech republic since there are also russian sellers with a ton of random parts/minifigures that shouldn't be easy to acquire
There's a seller on BL that goes by Minifig_Dreams, and he was able to get a bunch of those weird translucent minifigs I mentioned, as well as tons of Clone Commander minifigs from the UCS Gunship before the minifig pack was even announced
When I asked how he sourced them he told me he isn't going to "out" his connect, which implies he probably gets them illegally

I also knew this other guy in Canada who was able to get a ton of minifigs for me at one point, he had a connection with someone that could get pretty much any minifig in any quantity as long as they were still in production; I ended up with ~50 Mimban stormtroopers because of him, but in the end the dude scammed me for some unknown reason and I never heard from him again
There's definitely some weird shit going on that nobody at Lego looks into, I think these people have "ins" at Lego storage warehouses where all the parts are stored before being put into sets, it's highly unlikely that they get the shit by opening sealed sets in retail stores

I've also wondered if they use custom printed parts and pass them off as genuine lego, pad printed customs are extremely close to Lego quality (Clone Army Customs & Citizen Brick are good examples) so it's not out of the realm of possibility that they just got a shit ton of blank shields and copied the design

Lego makes all molds in-house and destroys them when they expire. Some molds do find their way out of the Chinese factories though. Lepin is largely a result of that. I think the only piece lego didn’t directly make is the old raised baseplates. Those were hired out to another company.

you can't really hurt them this way, just make sure you get colorsafe bleach like I said like clorox2, obviously don't use regular bleach. the bottle should say like color booster or brightener and colorsafe or something like that. the worst that happens is they don't change much, but they look like the white should at least look cleaner which will help. post your results if you do it.

As for the people with huge amounts of weird bulk, it's because of how LEGO sets used to be manufactured.

They used to (or still do?) just let the machine rip through and manufacture stuff *nearly* nonstop, they don't just "make the perfect amount" for the X sets they produce.

This sometimes leaves literal thousands of extras just sitting somewhere. Look at the types of things people have extras of: they are weird, rare, unique things from one large set or so. Those parts are only used once or twice in the set, so they simply produced too many.

Things are also produced in different plants / countries / areas, and with the supply chain / logistics, that adds another layer of chaos.

The sketchy part is how they acquire them. They're not bootleg, they're just stock acquired by potentially shady means (they should have been destroyed, but got lost / stolen / forgotten about).

Yeah, I think they were likely stolen or sold off by Lego just so they wouldn't go to waste

Yeah, there really isn't a problem with it, but it's morally bad to charge scalper prices for overstock in my opinion (most don't some mentioned above do).

Most people selling overstock have the cheapest / lowest prices for the part which makes sense as they don't care and have so many. Reasonable prices are fine.

legos action on bricklink proves they don't care about overstock - meanwhile, they've cracked down on anyone selling unofficial / unauthorized prints like the pircrel trans minifigs, you can't buy them on BL anymore.

But, the overstock sellers remain. I think it's a good thing to have rare, niche parts at affordable prices, just the moral grey area of acquisition is all.

Either way, I buy their stuff, avoid the overpriced scalpers, and am happier (and poorer) for their existence.

Yeah, even the black knights fortress has a low wall because its a toy and you gotta get ya hands in there. It's honestly not that bad, they even have a suggestion of a staircase.

One of the best castles.

6081 also seems pretty lackluster nowadays, a lot of low walls, but I still like it. While looking for pics I saw this cute expansion of it.

I just got off of a chat with Lego support and the dude didn't even seem concerned, all he said was that Lego has protocols in place to prevent theft from factories (obviously not good enough as motherfuckers were making parts in unauthorized colours) and that Lego owns Bricklink so they ensure it's a fair marketplace

Didn't know my post would start an investigation. Anyway, the gold shield is one of the three golden items you can get to build a golden bat knight for the dragon fortress adventurers set. The helmet is included in the dragon fortress set, the shield appeared in the scorpion palace set and the sword was in the mount everest temple. More on that in next posts.

It's not that complicated or nefarious. A lot of the bulk sellers also sell the factory rejects - things with slightly misaligned print, or where the chrome didn't completely adhere.

This is stuff back when lego had much better quality control, so a lot more got rejected.

The chrome swords are a classic case of this, they even say it in the description - they are not perfect.

Y'all acting like there is some grand conspiracy when it's literally just people selling a bucket of factory parts they got somewhere.

The conspiracy, to me, has more to do with sellers that get hundreds or thousands of licensed minifigs as well as the unauthorized parts (like Minifigure_Dreams, his ebay store is full of them, same with his BL store before they said stop) as the only way to get them is to have an insider at Lego
No motherfucker is spending $300k on 1000 tumblers just to sell the joker minifigs and sit on the rest of the parts, that's fucking retarded and mental gymnastics are required to even think it's a reasonable/logical thing to do

I am a category manager who works for a major retailer. I can say with 100% certainty that they are most likely over production. Lego's retail margins sit pretty high in wholesale, but they also are willing to commit heavy amounts of BTL funding to offset the initial cost to drive units. That means the actual dead net price is much lower.

In short, the actual price per piece is like nothing, which means they warehouse however many pieces. Given their size, they probably have DCs and separate storage sites with various bins staggered. These facilities are often 20k sqft+, especially since they replace broken/missing pieces, or if they decide to throw the piece in other sets they have to hold a robust inventory.

When you liquidate inventory, you usually get nothing for it as its cheaper than actual disposal. You 'donate' the stock, and those donation brokers are usually not public, but private. These folks most likely have connections with those brokers for the bulk.

Once they are discontinued, no one cares. I work with the Big CPG companies who have a bunch licensed merch. Most of it ends up thru those third parties (in the US a big one is Carolina Logistics) who then usually sells off to big third party distributors like big lots or ocean state joblot, etc. Lego usually doesn't show up in those, but that could mean that someone is outbidding those other mass channel retailers.

The normal return is like nothing, like $50 per ton from the third party. They then sell off in bulk, think those Amazon return palettes, though I am sure you can think of scenarios where people have arrangements with the third party to know when certain lots from certain manufacturers are available. You sell that to them for $100 a ton and you've made a nice profit after minor transportation and storage expenses.

I built the Saturn V in about an hour
a friend of mine gave it too me because he was leaving the country and couldn't take it with him, then he was coming around to hang out for the last time before going, started to feel shitty I hadn't built it yet, soni just blitzed it before he got there, it was fully disassembled before starting

Adventurefags know they're not getting sets anytime soon, Space and Castle amongst Town/City have been core themes of Lego since 1978 until they got ignored going into the 2010s. All castle and space fags is begging for Lego to make new sets, because they're creativeless NPCs that have no imagine to build their own castle or spaceships.

you can use a uv lamp to get the same results if you don't get enough sun year round to do it outside. I used to do it all the time during the winter in my basement when I lived in wisconsin.

My guess, Chima leftovers. Chima clearly intended to go one longer than 3 seasons (Chima being a small floating island in the middle of a bigger land mass.). The crew for, at least, the more recent seasons of Ninjago did write for Chima, and probably had a snake tribe set, but when Chima was cancelled, they probably repurposed those characters for Ninjago.
