I'm getting back into Lego and that's what's surprising me. I always really liked Lego city sets but the general lack of scale with those sets is boring. All the licensed sets are very well designed but it's just boring. I feel like I've seen the same like 20 star wars sets repeated throughout my entire life. It's just so boring and I don't get how fans of Lego and Star Wars are happy with it.

I lost interest in lego about 2 years ago when the price to part ratio started to spiral into ridiculous prices, and they also seem to ignore their own themes in favor of pumping out bland movie and videogame tie in sets.

I've moved on to other things, like matchbox and gundam. I've replaced my lego city layout with the new matchbox city sets, and I've replaced my need to build things with gundam kits. I just don't see the point of lego anymore. I want to get back into it, but any time I visit my local toy store and see the absurd prices, I just get put off again.

Will it ever get better, or is lego doomed to infinite economic inflation? How do I get back into lego? Its not that I don't have the money, but that I don't think the sets are worth the prices they have on them.

I think it's more that at the scale it was made it doesn't really feel compatible with anything else in the castle line. I mean the blacksmith building is like as tall as the royal castle, his bedroom is 5 times the size of the queen's.

Have you no understanding of the concept of abstraction? Things don't have to be realistically scaled, they just need to make sense on a symbolic context.

Here's your house in Pallet Town and the Sylph Corporation. Realistically the office building should be a hundred times bigger than the house and yet you accept it as is because this symbolic world creates enough of a suggestion of the scale difference which wouldn't happen if your house was almost as tall as large as the other building.
Same principle with the Battlecruiser, realistically it would fit a thousand marines inside it and yet you accept it next to the Marine because it creates enough of a suggestion of size difference on the same battlefield. Don't tell me it wouldn't look absolutely ridiculous if when you played Starcraft marines were almost as large the Battlecruisers.
Whether you want to admit it or not these simple scale tweaks create a completely different perception even though if you were to look at them from a de facto realistic perspective rather than a symbolic abstraction they would both be almost as equally silly and unrealistic.

And that's all you're getting from me, I'm done entertaining your bullshit.

People here act like lego is prohibitive to afford when 1) it's my cheapest hobby by retail prices, and 2) it's not just free, but a *paid hobby* if you just watch local listings and relist for profit. Just keep a seperate book in your finances so it's easy to pull a monthly check into your savings or intentionally break even and call that profit your lego budget. Whining about the cost of what is essentially a money printer - especially when it's so easy to blow cash on tires like you said - is just toddler shit.

My sister got one of those in some random girly mid 90's set, I had never seen one before or after.

Apparently in 2001 they released a pack of 5 of them (probably just getting rid of the existing stock), but nothing for half a decade prior, and nothing since.

I'd go as far to say I actually prefer it Barracuda Bay because it's just a lot more fun to play with and i'm just a lot less precious with it, Barracuda Bay just kinda sits on my shelf whereas the 3 in 1 gets played with a lot.

I think 3 in 1 is the best theme lego has left, because it feels the most lego. Everything else has gone into this weird thing of trying to hide all the studs with plates, as if they're trying to convince themselves its not lego for some reason. Thanks. Randomly checked Craigslist, saw it listed for $20. Very nice elderly couple, said it was their son’s, but it’s been collecting dust for that last 35 years. They had a few other non-lego retro things as well, they were shocked when I gave them $200. It’s been assembled and it has a thick layer of dust on most of the pieces, but it’s all there, including the inserts and even the original bags. The book is in incredible condition and the battery is not in the train, so that’s another big plus.

I've found using stain removers that you use for laundry work fine for these old sails and other cloth parts. Just spray and soak them in it, wash it off with warm water, repeat until you get most of the stains gone. Takes a while for some deeper ones but I've cleaned most of my old sails that were real dirty this way and got them to look much nicer too.

Just great playability, you've got the whole "cops vs robbers" shtick going on which is always a winner, only they're armed to the fucking teeth, plus it includes a lot of the elements that make classic castle/pirate great as well, you've got wagons, cannons, guns, horses, swords, little forts and the shitty little facade buildings lend themselves really well to the western theme.

Only limiting factor is the yellow windshield, as it is a new piece and is not available in any other color.
Luckily Yellow is a color that is complimentary with nearly anything.

I'd be real hesitant about using any sort of moisture to flatten an instruction manual, it'd almost guarantee you end up fusing pages together, especially if there's any pressure in addition to the moisture.

Throw a pillowcase over the top of it and give it a very light iron on dry settings, no steam etc

personal preference: I don't mind custom lego weapons as long they are on-style. These feel like they have too many small details and not enough places where its actually bar-width so it can be held at that point.

Also if you do try the iron, you might find you have to do one page at a time because the heat simply isn't going to penetrate through the whole booklet and the lower pages will retain the curvature.

Painstaking, but probably worth it for a vintage pirate manual.

My first Lego pirate purchase as a kid was determined by the inclusion of a monkey.

These two sets were apparently released a few years apart, but here in Australia they were still on shelves together, outside of birthdays and christmas I could really only scrape together enough cash for the little minifig/accessory packs then moc up whatever with the rest of the lego I had, so every single purchase was painfully deliberated over.

A lifetime later and no regrets, 6252 every time, an even amount of pirates and imperial troops, a chest with gold, a parrot, one pistol, one rifle, two swords, a pirate flag that would turn any misshapen moc into a pirate ship or pirate island and a montherfucking monkey.

Absolute perfection.

I think that was pretty normal in the 90's, I certainly remember it being the case with Lego as I bought lots of sets together that were released years apart (only something I found out years later), stores were less concerned with "clearance sales" to get rid of old stock and making way for new lines, they just stuck shit on the shelves and it sold when it sold, most toys only ended up in clearance when they were seriously damaged.

It's a very large bin, difficult to move around for theft purposes, and the filth makes me think it was in that house for quite a while. The weird part is the mom and kid were both in the group chat organizing the sale and the dad met me at the door, so everyone agreed that much stuff was worth only $100. I realized this with my penis, nobody told me you had to clean inside of the foreskin, I just learned how to do it like 4 months ago
Usually I would just rinse the outside with soap and water because I was nervous of stretching my foreskin and making it longer than it should be (which I've read happens to people who pull on it) but I think it's a rare occurrence as it doesn't hurt or anything like that

This was me but when I was like 10. Nobody told me the foreskin could come down so I never cleaned it. One day I saw there was some white stuff underneath the foreskin but the foreskin wouldn't fully come down. It turned out the thing connecting the foreskin to my dick (frenulum) was too short and trying to pull it down fully was painful. The first time I cleaned my dick I had to stretch the foreskin and use qtips to reach inside and get the white stuff out. Later I read you could try to stretch the frenulum in hot water to make it work as intended. After some time I could get it fully down but when the dick was hard it would still cause some discomfort, but I could clean my dick propely. I got it fully fixed with a laser procedure when I was 18. I was too embarassed to tell my parents and get it fixed earlier. Works great now.

On the arm that holds the wheel just make the axle slightly longer that it attaches to and if you must have yellow color just add a couple of yellow 1/2 bushings to cover the axle (or however many are needed) then you'll have plenty of clearance

Favor to ask of any harry potter owners or people with a good eye for color. What color *specifically* is the lavender-ish color on this torso? I can never identify from online pictures. That is actually not true, City introduced 6 stud wide minifig cars first.

Mostly they appeared first in the Lego City Undercover Game where every single car was 6 stud wide. 6 stud wide sportscars first appeared in City sets in 2013.

Speed Champions' first set was released in 2015. Speed Champions definetly benefited from the 6 stud design, but its not the reason why City started to favor it. The many various and iconic car designs that it allows are just give more options to build new kind of cars instead of re-relasing the same 4 wide box in a different color.

There was an anon who made a neat graveyard MOC with pretty cool grave stone designs.

I have kept 95% of my manuals for some reason. They were jammed in a drawer and scattered until I put them in a decently sized tub with a lid. I’m very happy with that decision. I even found an old pirate manual from the late 80s buried in there
