Just finished all the postgame for XY I wanted to do, pretty much finished my playthrough. Just wanted to get my thoughts out there.
Played Y when it came out in 2013, and didn't really do much after the E4 except battle others in my college. Now that I've replayed it years later with a more critical perspective, it's a much better game than I ever have it credit.
Positives
>huge regional dex, lots of choices and variety in teams
>battle backgrounds are gorgeous
>Kalos as a region is pretty comfy, gets more interesting the further into the game
>decent sense of history conveyed through the story
>turning off exp share creates a normal challenge curve, only had to grind levels right before the E4, which is normal for me
>they aren't that amazing, but I do like the group of friends you travel with
>Looker Missions in the postgame are absolute kino
>routes still have a bit of the old golden age design in them
>Megas are cool desu
>reusable TMs
>PSS, Amie, and Super Training
Negatives
>Kalos Pokemon kinda lose their identity amongst the huge regional dex, Kanto pandering is fairly blatant at the beginning
>parts of the game feel unfinished, such as Kalos Power Plant, Chamber of Emptiness
>dungeons are simplified compared to older games
>3D models implemented with mediocrity, at least I think so
>Lack of unique legendaries, half are Kanto. Fuck tracking down the Legendary bird.
>major fights and the E4 have smaller teams than they should
>even with the Looker Missions and Pokemon Village in mind, Lysandre's perspective seem hard to believe
Probably missing some other things, but overall I had a pretty damn good time. Solid 7/10, I'm actually kinds sad to be done with it.
Thanks for coming to my autism talk, let's talk about Kalos
