>>55856624Pokemon should have as minimalist a story as possible. Just give me a Pokemon, send me out into the world to collect badges, and maybe beat up some thugs along the way. Instead of trying to make some deep story, make me immersed through worldbuilding and environmental storytelling. Every time Pokemon has tried to have a more JRPG story (BW, SM) it's trash, because GF thinks that all they need to do to tell a successful JRPG story is beat you over the head with dialogue and cutscenes until you want to rip your eyes out. But the problem is they don't actually have the writing talent to make that kind of storytelling engaging, and it ends up detracting from the game. The most engaging Pokemon lore is stuff that's in the background, hinted at through subtle dialogue and worldbuilding. People still talk about stuff like the Unown, the Regis, the ghost in Lumiose City etc, people still debate over things like Arceus vs Mew and who was really the progenitor of Pokemon. Even in the newer games, the things that get attention are the vague origins of Paradox Pokemon for example. Stuff that incites your imagination and leaves you with something to ponder about. But when I think back to SM, the most plot heavy game in the series, all I can really remember is mashing A so I could play the game again. I never really see people discussing Lillie or Lana as characters, just posting art and wanking over them. Just go back to basics.
