Why did the Master Ex writers write Pokémon to behave like skittish house cats? It all works in concert to sell the idea of a Pokémon being a pet in the mold of cats and dogs. Like in SpongeBob snails meow, are treated like cats and they perform cat activities, which tells us snails occupy the space of cats, worms the space of dogs and clams the space of birds while sponges, crabs, fishes, starfish and other aquatic animals the space of people.
Those sort of thing are important and you can't brush them off because they hurt your sensibilities. Those youtube comments are a manifestation of those efforts which is the direction the series wants to go.
