I had a minor breakthrough in going through Shudo's Anime Style blogs. Whenever he talks about the other members of the writing team, he usually makes references to three people who aren't the screenwriters: A main director who complained a lot, whom he refers to as the "general commander of the animation," a producer with a screechy voice he and the other writers referred to as "Gozen-sama," and now a "general director," who Shudo says "is someone who has been said to be a partner with me in other works." With that last tidbit, the general director is almost definitely Kunihiko Yuyama, since they worked together on a few series previously. I speculated that the main director was Masamitsu Hidaka, and that seems more probably now. That only leaves "Gozen-sama," who I'm still not sure of. Could be Tsunekazu Ishihara, or Choji Yoshikawa. I find it hard to believe that an actual executive in the company would sit in on script meetings, as much as people like to meme that there was a chuuni executive giving the writers orders.
Shudo doesn't say much about Yuyama other than he's the one who brought Shudo in and Shudo wanted to not embarrass him. He definitely has thrown shade at Gozen-sama and Hidaka though, especially about the latter throwing out a lot of ideas and complaining a lot before Shudo got there. Shudo does praise their competence though, so he usually ends up going along with whatever they say. Hope to see him talk more about the screenwriters in future posts, but this was neat breakthrough.
Also, a quote from him regarding Ash:
>In the story theme of ``Pokémon'' that I had in mind, the main character, a young boy, was a stereotype and, well, he didn't matter. He should just appear as the main character. For me, the things that really needed to be drawn were Pikachu, a strange Pokemon that didn't want to go into the Pokéball, and the trio of Team Rocket.Blog:
