>>55120232For males selling to other males on the other hand, the appeal is success. The voice, the model, none of it matters to other males. The question is whether you have some talent or are successful in anything.
As male VTuber you start off as a complete NON-ENTITY. You have no brand, you are nobody. No males would want to emulate you, you're just some rando that no one knows about.
Males are 80% of the VTuber audience right now, and you already start off with a disadvantage in your appeal towards them.
As a male VTuber you'll have to grind out content, build up your legacy, show off your talents, and eventually reach enough success on your own to get noticed in a wider sphere. That success then attracts people looking to emulate it, which is how Kuzuha became one of the top male VTubers in Japan.
Also for successful male VTubers, the debut will almost NEVER be their biggest stream. They will usually start off low-medium and get more and more popular as their talent and charisma shines through, usually peaking at some or the other tournament setting or stage where they showcase their success.
And obviously, a male who has to rely on females for their brand, content or money is the most abhorrent thing for a male viewer. IRL terms, it's akin to the pity you feel when you see a household where the woman is the top earner or a lazy bum who lives by leeching off his wife/gf/parents.
It's the most pathetic form of male there is, and instinctually revolts other males. Nobody wants to emulate a loser after all. You are supposed to be the provider, not the one being provided to.
You can see this subconscious reaction in that recent Dacapo meme, where people made fun of the GUY first and foremost - because the perception was that he was living off the donations from those screaming women.
This is why most male VTuber audiences are majority female, and why male and female audience have such big clashes between each other when it comes to male VTubers.
Kuzuha is probably the only active successful male VTuber I know that has some male appeal as well. It's because of his confidence, charisma and hilarity - that males want to emulate, as well as him being absolutely dismissive of a lot of the stuff he has to do to earn his keep. e.g. openly saying he doesn't get shit from merch, so feel free to buy however many you want, or the nonchalant way that he presents merch, just going "here's my stuff, go get 'em if you want." - which appeals to males as well as they want to be as charismatic and dismissive as this guy is. The cute form of "pwease buy my merch~" appeal that most female VTubers go for doesn't work for males, and pitybait stories just make them look pathetic as hell. Once again, no male wants to emulate a loser.
The other one is of course, chuubas like Mayuzumi. Ultra creative fuckers who have no reason to be even doing this VTubing job and hence don't even bother about selling their shit more than the bare minimum. He was already successful and rich a f, he just wanted to do something creative in the industry. There was a lot of female appeal for his model and voice as well of course, but since he was never dependent on the women for survival, he still had a lot of male appeal for his charisma and creativity.
There's also Toya, who's more of a regular streamer, does comedy for entertainment, but even there his male audience is maybe 30-40% max due to his meme skills.
...and there's the second problem. Notice it yet? Check the first post I made.
Yeah, all those "wide variety of male character archetypes"? Zero male appeal. Only charismatic and talented males appeal to other males. So if you want a male audience (current majority of the industry) you only have a single base personality type for you to use. Unlike the wide range of character archetypes available to female VTubers.
This is why almost all male VTubers have a majority female audience. Deviations from this ultra talented, charismatic and dismissive archetype simply does NOT appeal to male audiences.
And that right there, is the main reason why male VTubing will never become as widespread as female VTubing.
