Even if something can't be translated directly I think that's fine as long as you have the understanding, cause English and Japanese are just differently structured languages so some things don't have a direct one-to-one translation

But it's an example of something weird to translate
Like if something just happened and you're expected to comment, and all you say is "aa, souka" then a tsukkomi can be like "aa, souka JA NEE YO!!". What does that translate to? Literally "IT IS NOT oh i see" but the feeling is more like "DONT JUST SAY oh i see"
When I play jrpgs I will almost always see lines that are translated in ways that either attempt to focus on the translated feeling, often awkwardly overextending and being something that's not what's spoken, but sometimes there's also just literal translations that come off as just as awkward since it doesnt communicate the proper feeling in English
