Translating dense japanese prose is difficult because the grammar and sentence structure doesn't carry over cleanly into english. High quality translations often paraphrase enormously because it's simply not possible to preserve structure and meaning together while making the result tolerable in english. Good translators change structure to retain readability and meaning. Publishers like yenpress do not employ good translation practices.
The business of publishing translations is such that the work has to be done at absolute bottom dollar to be profitable. This means self-taught weebs or 3rd worlders being paid peanuts-per-word and pressured to work about 3x as fast as a quality translation would take. The results speak for themselves. Sadly, while translation, especially between japanese and english is a highly creative and intellectual endeavor that requires a great deal of understanding and original ideas on the part of the translator to accomplish well, intellectual property laws don't reflect that. The result is that translators worthless, have no leverage in the industry and are expected to do little more than proofread google translate, while people with actual skill are pushed away from the industry by the shitty employer practices and general lack of money in the industry as copyright law permits it to exist.
That said, a lot of LNs do just have shitty prose, S&W just isn't one of them.
