French government quits just hours after being appointed, deepening political crisis

No.1445142 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/french-socialist-leader-will-vote-against-pm-lecornu-things-stand-2025-10-06/

PARIS, Oct 6 (Reuters) - France's new Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu and his government resigned on Monday, hours after Lecornu announced his cabinet line-up, in a major deepening of France's political crisis that drove stocks and the euro sharply lower.
The swift, unexpected resignation came after allies and foes alike threatened to topple the new government.

The far-right National Rally immediately urged President Emmanuel Macron to call a snap parliamentary election. The hard left France Unbowed said Macron himself must go.

Lecornu, who was Macron's fifth prime minister in two years, stayed in the job for only 27 days. His government lasted 14 hours, making it the shortest-lived in modern French history at a time when parliament is deeply divided and the euro zone's second-largest economy is struggling to put its finances in order.

After weeks of consultations with political parties across the board, Lecornu, a close ally of Macron, had appointed his ministers on Sunday and they had been set to hold their first meeting on Monday afternoon.
But the new cabinet line-up had angered opponents and allies alike, who either found it too right-wing or not sufficiently so, raising questions on how long it could last, with no group holding a majority in a fragmented parliament.

Macron's decision to call a snap parliamentary election last year deepened the crisis by producing an even more fragmented parliament.
But France could now possibly be headed for another snap parliamentary vote.
"I call on the President of the Republic to dissolve the National Assembly ... this joke has gone on long enough, the farce must end," National Rally chief Marine Le Pen said after Lecornu resigned.
Mathilde Panot, of the hard left France Unbowed, said: "Lecornu resigns. 3 Prime Ministers defeated in less than a year. The countdown has begun. Macron must go."

Leftwing teacher attacks a conservative to prove that the left is not violent

No.1444970 View ViewReplyLast 50OriginalReport
https://townhall.com/tipsheet/dmitri-bolt/2025/10/03/woman-maced-after-attacking-maga-commentator-n2664426

Conservative activist Cam Higby was attacked outside Washington’s Union Station this week while attempting to engage in peaceful political discussions. The incident comes as Higby launches his “Fearless Tour,” an effort he says that is inspired by the late Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated while engaging in similar dialogue.

In the viral clip, a woman is first seen kneeling beside Higby, reaching for his MAGA hat. As Higby repeats, “Stop, stop, stop,” the woman, identified as Taylor Forte, grew more aggressive, standing up and trying to rip the hat from his head before knocking him over in his chair. Higby then pulled out a can of Mace and sprays Forte, sending her stumbling into a nearby bush as she shouts, "Stupid b**ch." Forte pulled herself out of the bush and walked away as Higby continued to spray her.

It was later revealed that Forte is a public school teacher in Prince George's County, Maryland.

The attack comes as conservatives continue to engage in political dialogue despite continued political violence and rhetoric from Democratic officials justifying that violence. The assassination of Charlie Kirk renewed the resolve in many conservative activists, prompting more political engagement with the public and several calls for lawmakers to stop demonizing their political opponents.

Hamas has finally agreed to let Israel stop it's genocide against Palestinians.

Trump announces first phase of Israel-Hamas ceasefire in Gaza

President Trump announced Wednesday a ceasefire has been reached between Israel and Hamas, paving the way for the release of 20 living hostages and relief for nearly 2 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

Trump said the two sides signed off on “the first Phase” of a peace plan he announced late last month, a major reprieve to halt more than two years of war since Hamas brutally attacked Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, killing approximately 1,200 people and taking more than 250 hostages.

The president touted the first phase “as the first steps toward a Strong, Durable, and Everlasting Peace. All Parties will be treated fairly!” in a post on his social media site Truth Social.

“This is a GREAT Day for the Arab and Muslim World, Israel, all surrounding Nations, and the United States of America, and we thank the mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, who worked with us to make this Historic and Unprecedented Event happen. BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS!”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a statement minutes later. “With God’s help we will bring them all home,” he said, referring to the hostages. Hamas also holds the bodies of 28 hostages.

The ceasefire deal comes after Hamas and Israel agreed last week to enter into negotiations, with senior officials arriving in Egypt on Monday to solidify the deal.

Full details of the ceasefire deal were not immediately publicized. Majed al-Ansari, advisor to Qatar’s prime minister, said in a post on X that the details for implementing the first phase of the deal would be announced later, but will include halting the war, for Hamas to release hostages, for Israel to release Palestinian prisoners and for aid to enter the strip.

Treasury weighs minting $1 coin with Trump’s face for U.S. 250th anniversary

No.1444628 View ViewReplyLast 50OriginalReport
https://www.cnbc.com/2025/10/03/trump-face-coin-treasury-dollar.html

The Treasury Department is considering minting a $1 coin bearing President Donald Trump’s likeness on both sides to honor him and commemorate the United States’ 250th birthday next year.

A first draft of that coin, which will mark the semiquincentennial anniversary of the nation’s founding, depicts Trump’s head in profile on one side, above the words “IN GOD WE TRUST” and the dates 1776 and 2026.

The other side of the coin shows a defiant-looking Trump raising his fist, closely matching the pose he struck moments after surviving an assassination attempt at a 2024 presidential campaign rally in Pennsylvania.

The words “FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT,” which Trump mouthed to his supporters right after that attack, appear around the edge of that side of the coin.

“No fake news here. These first drafts honoring America’s 250th Birthday and @POTUS are real,” U.S. Treasurer Brandon Beach wrote on X in response to a post touting sketches of the coin.

“Looking forward to sharing more soon, once the obstructionist shutdown of the United States government is over,” Beach wrote.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent reposted Beach’s message from his own X account.

A Treasury spokesperson told CNBC that a final design for a $1 coin to commemorate the anniversary has not yet been selected.

Bodycam footage shows ICE officers lied about ambush attack in Chicago

https://chicago.suntimes.com/news/2025/10/06/marimar-martinez-anthony-ian-santos-ruiz-border-patrol-shooting-brighton-park

Body-camera video of a Border Patrol agent involved in the shooting of a woman who was allegedly chasing agents in Brighton Park over the weekend shows an officer saying, “Do something, b----,” before pulling over and shooting the woman five times, the woman’s attorney said in federal court Monday.

The video appears to contradict the government’s allegation that Marimar Martinez, 30, drove toward officers before one of them opened fire on her late Saturday morning on Kedzie Avenue near 39th Street, her attorney, Christopher Parente, said at a detention hearing at the Dirksen Federal Courthouse.

U.S. District Judge Heather McShain denied a request by the federal government to detain Martinez and Anthony Ian Santos Ruiz, 21, pending trial. Martinez and Ruiz, who wore orange jumpsuits for the detention hearing, were charged Sunday with felony assault of a federal officer.

Parente also offered to play an agent’s body-camera video that shows the shooting, noting prosecutors did not show the video that he claimed disputes the government’s version of the shooting.

Parente said the video shows an agent turning a federal vehicle left into Martinez’s vehicle, after which an agent says, “Do something b----.” The agent then exits the vehicle and shoots at Martinez.
