Bowser says violent crime in DC down 45%, urges less focus on immigration enforcement

During a situational update on the federal law enforcement presence in the District on Wednesday, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser stated that violent crime is down 45% since the oversight started, compared with the same period last year.

What we know

Overall, there's been a 38% drop in homicides, an 87% drop in carjackings and a 62% drop in robberies. These figures come as arrests in D.C. this month have topped 1,500, which is up 20% from this time in 2024.

"We greatly appreciate the surge of officers that enhance what MPD has been able to do in this city," Bowser told reporters on Wednesday. "We know that when carjackings go down, when use of guns goes down, when homicide or robbery go down, neighborhoods feel safer and are safer."

"This surge has been important to us," she added. "If there were 500 additional MPD officers, that same activity, arrests and gun recovery would have likely been made."

Mayor Bowser reportedly spoke with President Donald Trump and U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi before meeting with reporters. She said during the press conference Wednesday that during these calls, she was unable to determine if Trump and Bondi are intending to end or extend the federal oversight beyond the initial 30 days.

"That was not something that I discussed with the president. What we want is local control of our public safety ecosystem," she said when she was asked what she wanted after the 30 days are up. "That includes deployment of officers, and we want federal officers that work in coordination with us — DEA, ATF, FBI.

She added, "After 30 days, I think we're going to have officers, and we want officers. We want to enhance our officer presence."

Trump says Larry Ellison, Michael Dell and Murdochs will be involved in TikTok deal

No.1440383 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
https://www.cnn.com/2025/09/21/business/tiktok-trump-murdochs-oracle-deal

President Donald Trump on Sunday said tech and media giants Larry Ellison, Michael Dell, and Lachlan and Rupert Murdoch will be a part of the group to take over TikTok’s algorithm in the acquisition of the social media platform’s US operations.

“You know, they’re very well-known people. And Larry Ellison is one of them. He’s involved. He’s a great guy. Michael Dell is involved. I hate to tell you this, but a man named Lachlan is involved,” Trump said on Fox News’ “Sunday Briefing,” referring to Lachlan Murdoch — the CEO of Fox Corp., which is the parent company of Fox News — and the son of Fox Corp. founder Rupert Murdoch.

Trump added that Rupert Murdoch “is probably going to be in the group.”

The TikTok talks involving the Murdochs could result in Fox Corp. becoming part of the consortium, according to a person familiar with the matter. Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch would not be investing as individuals.

Participating in the TikTok consortium could provide a boost for Fox Corp., which has been making many digital media investments to offset declining areas of business like broadcast television.

Dell is the CEO of computer maker Dell Technologies.

‘We can’t delay any longer’: Trump urges Bondi to prosecute his rivals

No.1440377 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
https://www.politico.com/news/2025/09/20/trump-bondi-truth-social-00574380?utm_content=politico/magazine/Politics

President Donald Trump publicly vented at Attorney General Pam Bondi on Saturday, saying the lack of criminal charges against top adversaries was “killing our reputation and credibility.”

“We can’t delay any longer,” Trump posted on Truth Social in a message directed to “Pam.” “JUSTICE MUST BE SERVED, NOW!!!” He specifically lamented the lack of criminal charges against Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James, three of his most prominent political antagonists.

Trump spent much of the post venting about Erik Siebert, the former U.S. attorney from the Eastern District of Virginia, who he forced out Friday amid reports that Siebert did not believe there was enough evidence to charge James with mortgage fraud.

Trump appeared to confirm those reports, accusing Siebert of saying “that we had no case.”

“There is a GREAT CASE,” Trump said.

Trump also appeared to float his onetime personal attorney Lindsey Halligan — now a White House aide who has been reviewing materials in the Smithsonian museums to ensure they align with Trump’s agenda — to take on a role in the probes of his adversaries.

RFK Jr and Trump fearmonger about autism in marathon cabinet meeting, then kill research

No.1430049 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/rfk-jr-trump-autism-research-b2814520.html

President Donald Trump and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. got things rolling on a marathon three-hour-plus Cabinet meeting Tuesday by appearing to fearmonger about autism — before the Health and Human Services secretary vowed to find a cause of what he characterized as an “epidemic” by September.

The grandstanding came even as HHS data sheets show that the Trump administration has actually cut grants to researchers focused on autism.

“I don't want to go too long, because we have a lot of people, but the autism is such a tremendous horror show,” Trump said to Kennedy, who he has tasked with reviewing the cause of the “epidemic.” During an April Cabinet meeting, Kennedy had also said he would “know what has caused the autism epidemic” by September.

Most researchers, including those at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which falls under HHS, agree that autism diagnoses have increased because of broadened diagnostic criteria and an improved availability of diagnoses for autism spectrum disorder.

> Conservative activist Charlie Kirk shot at Utah college event

> OREM, Utah (AP) — Charlie Kirk, the CEO and co-founder of the conservative youth organization Turning Point USA, was shot Wednesday at an event at a Utah college, Turning Point said.

> “We are confirming that he was shot and we are praying for Charlie,” said Aubrey Laitsch, public relations manager for Turning Point USA.

> Videos posted to social media show Kirk speaking into a handheld microphone while sitting under a white tent emblazoned with the slogan “The American Comeback” and “Prove Me Wrong.” A single shot rings out and Kirk can be seen reaching for his neck with his right hand. Stunned spectators can be heard gasping and screaming before people start to run away. The Associated Press was able to confirm the videos were taken at the Sorensen Center courtyard on the Utah Valley University campus, where Kirk was speaking Wednesday.

> President Donald Trump and a host of Republican elected officials offered prayers for Kirk on social media.

> The shooting comes amid a spike in political violence in the United States across all parts of the ideological spectrum. The attacks include the assassination of a Minnesota state lawmaker and her husband at their house in June, the firebombing of a Colorado parade to demand Hamas release hostages, and a fire set at the house of Pennsylvania’s governor, who is Jewish, in April. The most notorious of these events is the shooting of President Donald Trump during a campaign rally last year.

MAGA censors South Park cartoon for criticizing the government

No.1438727 View ViewReplyLast 50OriginalReport
https://www.news.com.au/entertainment/tv/south-parks-latest-episode-cancelled-just-hours-before-airing/news-story/c576119fd9a5c0c3da8fa1c15f4d08e0
Something strange is going on at Comedy Central HQ.

South Park creators Trey Stone and Matt Parker issued a rare statement on Wednesday, just hours before the latest episode of their headline-making 27th season was supposed to air, saying the new episode wouldn’t make it to screens because they “didn’t get it done in time.”

“Apparently when you do everything at the last minute sometimes you don’t get it done. This one’s on us. Thanks to Comedy Central and South Park fans for being so understanding. Tune in next week,” the duo wrote.

It’s particularly questionable given the anticipation surrounding the upcoming fifth episode, which would’ve been the first to go to air since Charlie Kirk’s assassination in Utah last week.

The move also kicked off a turbulent day in US television, with veteran late night host Jimmy Kimmel having his show pulled “indefinitely” on the ABC network over recent comments he made about Kirk’s death.

In what’s been labelled an “attack on free speech”, Jimmy Kimmel Live! has been sensationally stalled after the host peddled a conspiracy that Kirk’s alleged assassin Tyler Robinson was a member of the “MAGA gang”.

“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterise this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel said in his monologue Monday.

The latest season of South Park has spurred significant controversy, with the notoriously-unrestrained show going after US President Donald Trump and MAGA culture like it never has before, with Kirk himself mocked in an episode just weeks before he was killed at a university in the US state.

Chicago Starbucks Worker Did Not Write ‘Loser’ On Order Honoring Charlie Kirk, Company Says

No.1440243 View ViewReplyLast 50OriginalReport
A Starbucks spokesperson said time-stamped surveillance footage shows an employee did not write the note, which had prompted online outrage and the store’s temporary closure this week.

https://blockclubchicago.org/2025/09/19/viral-video-claiming-starbucks-worker-wrote-loser-on-order-honoring-charlie-kirk-is-false-company-says/

>NORWOOD PARK — A viral social media video this week claimed that employees at a Norwood Park Starbucks wrote “Loser” on a drink ordered in honor of slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk. An online furor followed, and the coffee shop even closed temporarily.
>But Starbucks now says that time-stamped footage from the store at 6332 N. Northwest Highway does not show any of its workers writing that message. Instead, the note appears “to have been added after the beverage was handed off, likely by someone else,” a spokesperson told Block Club.
>The controversy started with a post Tuesday from Jacqueline Garretson, who, according to her X bio, is the Illinois state director for The Conservative Caucus and previously worked as a staffer for failed Republican attorney general candidate Thomas DeVore.
>Garretson wrote that a relative, whom she later identified as her mother-in-law, ordered the Mint Majesty tea with two honeys — an order known to be Kirk’s favorite drink — from the Starbucks. When the order was completed, the cup had “Loser” written on it, Garretson said.
