The Trump admnistration takes a very Orwellian turn

No.1424056 View ViewReplyLast 50OriginalReport
https://www.cnn.com/2025/08/02/politics/the-trump-administration-takes-a-very-orwellian-turn

Back in March, President Donald Trump signed an executive order targeted at the Smithsonian Institution that began as follows: “Over the past decade, Americans have witnessed a concerted and widespread effort to rewrite our Nation’s history, replacing objective facts with a distorted narrative driven by ideology rather than truth.”

Despite the high-minded rhetoric, many worried the order was instead a thinly veiled effort to rewrite history more to Trump’s liking. The order, for example, cited a desire to remove “improper ideology” – an ominous phrase, if there ever was one – from properties like the Smithsonian.

Those concerns were certainly bolstered this week. We learned that some historical information that recently vanished from the Smithsonian just so happens to have been objective history that Trump really dislikes: a reference to his two impeachments.

The Smithsonian said that a board containing the information was removed from the National Museum of American History last month after a review of the museum’s “legacy content.” The board had been placed in front of an existing impeachment exhibit in September 2021.

Just to drive this home: The exhibit itself is about “Limits of Presidential Power.” And suddenly examples of the biggest efforts by Congress to limit Trump’s were gone.

Wyoming and S.D. introduce age verification laws with no content minimum

No.1426307 View ViewReplyLast 50OriginalReport
https://www.404media.co/wyoming-and-south-dakota-age-verification-laws/

>Last month, age verification laws went into effect in Wyoming and South Dakota, requiring sites hosting “material that is harmful to minors” to verify visitors are over 18 years old.
>But these two states’ laws leave out an important condition: Unlike the laws passed in other states, they don’t state that this applies only to sites with “33.3 percent” or one-third “harmful” material. That could mean Wyoming and South Dakota would require a huge number of sites to use age verification because they host any material they deem harmful to minors, not just porn sites.

so is 4chan rangebanning Wyoming and South Dakota or waiting to be bankrupted by a lawsuit? literally one pornographic image on the site being viewed by a minor in either state with a parent with a raging hateboner for pornography is all that it would take

More democrat corruption

Yet another one. Federal felony corruption charges, prominent Democrat. This time it's the (first female) mayor of New Orleans. She was stealing money from the city. Even after being warned three years ago that she was committing felony fraud she continued doing it

New Orleans mayor indicted on federal corruption charges

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell (D) was indicted on federal charges Friday after an alleged affair with a local police officer.

Cantrell, the city’s first female mayor, is accused of engaging in a romantic relationship with Jeffrey Paul Vappie II, a police officer in the executive protection unit.

Court documents allege she orchestrated out-of-state trips to maximize their opportunities to engage in “personal activities” that cost the city of New Orleans more than $70,000 in addition to travel expenses for Cantrell.

Prosecutors say both Cantrell and Vappie were warned about misconduct in 2022.

“Public officials should be in their jobs to serve the public and not themselves. To do otherwise is a breach of the trust that undermines the public’s faith and trust in their own government,” acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana Michael Simpson said at a Friday press conference.

The Democratic mayor is in her final term as the city’s leader and is now charged with making false statements and false declarations before a grand jury, conspiracy to obstruct justice and conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

Nobody is surprised.

$37 TRILLION; REPUBLICAN SPENDING OUT OF CONTROL

US national debt reaches a record $37 trillion, the Treasury Department reports

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. government’s gross national debt has surpassed $37 trillion, a record number that highlights the accelerating debt on America’s balance sheet and increased cost pressures on taxpayers.

The $37 trillion update is found in the latest Treasury Department report issued Tuesday which logs the nation’s daily finances.

The national debt eclipsed $37 trillion years sooner than pre-pandemic projections. The Congressional Budget Office’s January 2020 projections had gross federal debt eclipsing $37 trillion after fiscal year 2030. But the debt grew faster than expected because of a multi-year COVID-19 pandemic starting in 2020 that shut down much of the U.S. economy, where the federal government borrowed heavily under then-President Donald Trump and former President Joe Biden to stabilize the national economy and support a recovery.

And now, more government spending has been approved after Trump signed into law Republicans’ tax cut and spending legislation earlier this year. The law set to add $4.1 trillion to the national debt over the next decade, according to Congressional Budget Office estimates.

Chair and CEO of the Peter G. Peterson Foundation, Michael Peterson said in a statement that government borrowing puts upward pressure on interest rates, “adding costs for everyone and reducing private sector investment. Within the federal budget, the debt crowds out important priorities and creates a damaging cycle of more borrowing, more interest costs, and even more borrowing.”

Crime Sparks State of Emergency in New Mexico: What We Know

New Mexico Democratic Governor MichelleLujanGrisham declared a state of emergency Wednesday for Rio Arriba County—including the city of Española and surrounding Pueblo communities—citing a significant surge in violent crime, drug trafficking, and other public safety threats that have overwhelmed local capacity. The declaration enables the release of up to $750,000 in emergency funding to bolster local law enforcement, expand resources, and stabilize affected communities.

The emergency declaration reflects a localized public-safety crisis, the Democratic governor notes.

Officials say the initial funding from the state of emergency will support coordination and targeted resources throughout the impacted areas.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has focused on crime, law and order, and immigration policies while campaigning for president and since his inauguration.

Trump threatened tariffs against Mexico, Canada and China in February related to fentanyl coming into the country.

In a statement, the governor said, "When our local leaders called for help to protect their communities, we responded immediately with decisive action," emphasizing that the state will marshal all available resources to restore public safety. State officials connected the crime rise to broader social challenges, including homelessness, family instability, and a growing opioid crisis.

Española, in northern New Mexico, is situated approximately 255 miles north of the U.S.–Mexico border.

According to the news release, police calls in Española have more than doubled in two years.

Trump demands homeless people "immediately" leave Washington, DC

No.1425703 View ViewReplyLast 50OriginalReport
https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c1kzz4m3ll1o
US President Donald Trump has said homeless people must "move out" of Washington DC as he vowed to tackle crime in the city, but the mayor pushed back against the White House likening the capital to Baghdad.

"We will give you places to stay, but FAR from the Capital," he posted on Sunday. The Republican president also trailed a news conference for Monday about his plan to make the city "safer and more beautiful than it ever was before".

Mayor Muriel Bowser, a Democrat, said: "We are not experiencing a crime spike."

Trump signed an order last month making it easier to arrest homeless people, and he last week ordered federal law enforcement into the streets of Washington DC.

"The Homeless have to move out, IMMEDIATELY," Trump wrote on his social media site Truth Social on Sunday.

"We will give you places to stay, but FAR from the Capital. The Criminals, you don't have to move out. We're going to put you in jail where you belong."

Alongside photos of tents and rubbish, he added: "There will be no 'MR. NICE GUY.' We want our Capital BACK. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"

The specifics of the president's plan are not yet clear, but in a 2022 speech he proposed moving homeless people to "high quality" tents on inexpensive land outside cities, while providing access to bathrooms and medical professionals.

On Friday, Trump ordered federal agents - including from US Park Police, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the FBI and the US Marshals Service - into Washington DC to curb what he called "totally out of control" levels of crime.

A White House official told National Public Radio that up to 450 federal officers were deployed on Saturday night.

The move comes after a 19-year-old former employee of the Department of Government Efficiency (Doge) was assaulted in an alleged attempted carjacking in Washington DC.

Trump vented about that incident on social media, posting a photo of the bloodied victim.

Trump Government Denounces South Park Episode for Sexism Against Women

No.1425318 View ViewReplyLast 50OriginalReport
https://www.forbes.com/sites/conormurray/2025/08/08/kristi-noem-rips-south-park-portrayal-as-lazy-and-petty/
Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem said on Thursday night her portrayal on this week’s episode of “South Park,” which has garnered criticism from Washington for ripping President Donald Trump and his administration, is “petty” and “lazy,” but admitted she didn’t watch the episode.

Key Facts

Noem appeared on conservative radio host Glenn Beck’s show Thursday night, where she said it is “so lazy to constantly make fun of women for how they look.”

On the Wednesday night episode of “South Park,” Noem was portrayed wearing makeup and an Immigrations and Customs Enforcement uniform, and in one scene, her Botox procedure dissolved, causing the cartoon character’s face to melt.

On Thursday night, South Park made the image of Noem’s character’s face melting its profile picture across its social media platforms.

Noem called the portrayal “petty,” stating it’s “always the liberals and the extremists who do that. If they wanted to criticize my job, go ahead and do that, but clearly they can’t.”

In another scene, Noem is depicted shooting a dog—a reference to Noem’s own claim that she once shot and killed her young dog because it was aggressive—and conducting ICE raids at a live production of “Dora the Explorer” to target Latinos.

Vice President JD Vance, who is also satirized in the episode as a comedically short sidekick to Trump, responded to the episode on Thursday morning: “Well, I’ve finally made it.”
