WASHINGTON (AP) — A chief architect of Project 2025, Paul Dans, is launching a Republican primary challenge to Sen. Lindsey Graham in South Carolina, joining a crowded field that will test the loyalties of President Donald Trump and his MAGA movement in next year’s midterm election.

Dans told The Associated Press the Trump administration’s federal workforce reductions and cuts to federal programs are what he had hoped for in drafting Project 2025. But he said there’s “more work to do,” particularly in the Senate.

“What we’ve done with Project 2025 is really change the game in terms of closing the door on the progressive era,” Dans said in an AP interview. ”If you look at where the chokepoint is, it’s the United States Senate. That’s the headwaters of the swamp.”

Dans, who is set to formally announce his campaign at an event Wednesday in Charleston, said Graham has spent most of his career in Washington and “it’s time to show him the door.”

Chris LaCivita, a senior adviser to Graham’s campaign who co-managed Trump’s 2024 bid, predicted in a statement to the AP that Dans’ campaign would “end prematurely.”

Shane Devon Tamura's Suicide Note Says He Had CTE, Calls Out NFL—Report

The gunman who opened fire inside a New York City skyscraper that is home to the NFL's headquarters on Monday reportedly left a suicide note saying he suffered from Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) and wanted his brain to be studied.

The Context
The shooting took place in a Manhattan skyscraper where the headquarters of both the NFL and Blackstone, one of the world's largest investment firms, are located.

Authorities said the gunman, identified as 27-year-old Shane Devon Tamura of Las Vegas, killed four people, including New York City police officer Didarul Islam, and wounded a fifth. The gunman died by suicide, officials said.

What To Know
A suicide note was discovered in the suspect's back pocket that said he suffered from CTE, CNN reported, citing an unnamed source with knowledge of the investigation.

The degenerative brain disease has been linked to repeated trauma to the head, including concussions, common in contact sports like football. Symptoms can be used to diagnose suspected CTE in the living, but can only be confirmed through a post-mortem examination of the brain because it requires examination of brain tissue.

Football "gave me CTE and it caused me to drink a gallon of antifreeze," the note read, according to CNN. "You can't go against the NFL, they'll squash you."

The note also asked for the suspect's brain to be studied, according to CNN, which said Tamura was a competitive football player in his youth.

Newsweek has contacted the NFL for further comment via emails sent outside regular business hours.

In a message to employees and provided to Newsweek early on Tuesday, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said the gunman committed "an unspeakable act of violence in our building."

DOJ, FBI review finds no Jeffrey Epstein 'client list,' confirms suicide: Memo

https://www.axios.com/2025/07/07/jeffrey-epstein-suicide-client-list-trump-administration

A review ordered by President Donald Trump-appointed leadership of the Justice Department and the FBI found no evidence that notorious deceased financier Jeffrey Epstein kept a "client list" of associates whom he blackmailed or conspired with to victimize dozens of women, according to a new memo reviewed by ABC News.

The department has also released hours of purported footage as part of its review, which officials say further confirms Epstein died by suicide while in custody in his jail cell in Manhattan in 2019 -- contradicting conspiracy theories long embraced or spread by allies of President Trump and others.

The memo is also likely to generate outrage among those who have claimed Epstein's known high-profile associates could be implicated in his crimes. According to the FBI and DOJ review, no further charges are expected in connection with their probes into Epstein, as investigators "did not uncover evidence that could predicate an investigation against uncharged third parties."

Border agent charged with child sex trafficking, fraud in Cochise County

https://tucson.com/news/local/border/article_5e596767-4575-485b-88e8-0a6265e5bb41.html

A Tucson Sector Border Patrol agent has been indicted on 24 felony charges, including 10 counts of child sex trafficking, the latest in a series of sexual-misconduct convictions or charges against U.S. Customs and Border Protection employees in Arizona.

Willcox border agent Bart Conrad Yager, 39, was also charged with six counts of “pandering,” or encouraging someone to engage in prostitution; one count of attempted child sex trafficking; and two counts of fraud, between July 2023 and March 2024 in Cochise County, indictments from the Cochise County Attorney’s Office show.

On Thursday, county prosecutors also charged Yager with five drug-related felonies: possession or use of the anabolic steroid trenbolone and testosterone; sale or transportation of trenbolone and testosterone; and possession of drug paraphernalia, all in 2025.

A CBP spokesman said the agency’s Office of Professional Responsibility arrested Yager in Willcox on June 17, and executed a search warrant based on allegations of child sex trafficking, fraudulent schemes and pandering.

“CBP stresses honor and integrity in every aspect of our mission, and the overwhelming majority of CBP employees and officers perform their duties with honor and distinction, working tirelessly every day to keep our country safe,” an emailed CBP statement said. “An arrest is merely an allegation. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.”

A decade ago, Yager was the suspect in a now-closed Tucson rape case. But CBP never investigated the allegations against Yager, according to a CBP special agent’s statement filed in Cochise County Superior Court. The statement was first reported by the Herald/Review Media.

US Government requests citizens Venmo or PayPal them to pay the national debt

No.1422456 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
https://www.newsweek.com/venmo-government-national-debt-2103371
The federal government will accept Venmo payments from citizens who want to help pay off the national debt.

The Treasury has begun accepting Venmo transactions as contributions toward the national debt, which currently stands at $36 trillion.

Newsweek contacted the Treasury for more information on the decision via email.

The United States national debt surpassed $34 trillion in 2024, raising ongoing questions about deficit spending and fiscal policy. Amid these concerns, the U.S. Treasury has expanded citizens' options for making voluntary payments to reduce the public debt—including digital payment methods such as Venmo.

This adaptation signals a shift toward digital-first government services and highlights efforts to engage younger, tech-savvy Americans in public finance, a group that the second Trump administration is keen to appeal to.

The Bureau of the Fiscal Service, part of the U.S. Department of the Treasury, allows individuals to make voluntary contributions to help reduce the public debt.

Gifts can be made via U.S. government platforms such as Pay.gov, with payments accepted in the form of money, outstanding government obligations, or other intangible personal property, according to TreasuryDirect.gov.

After discussions in May, citizens can also now use modern digital payment tools including PayPal and Venmo to facilitate these transactions alongside more traditional methods such as credit cards or direct transfers.

To contribute, individuals can visit the Pay.gov portal and select their payment method. On Pay.gov, users can fill out the required forms and submit donations using Venmo, enabling real-time payments from their mobile devices.

The Treasury's monthly reports indicate that such gifts remain modest in scale; in fiscal year 2022, Americans contributed a total of $180,310.32 in voluntary donations toward reducing the national debt.

House panel approves subpoena of DOJ for Epstein files
A House Oversight and Government Reform subcommittee on Wednesday approved several subpoenas, including one directing the Department of Justice to turn over materials relating to the Epstein files.

The federal law enforcement subcommittee also approved a motion to subpoena several high-profile Democratic officials, including former President Clinton, for their testimony.

The panel approved the Epstein motion, offered by Rep. Summer Lee (D-Pa.), in an 8-2 vote, with Republican Reps. Nancy Mace (S.C.), Scott Perry (Pa.) and Brian Jack (Ga.) joining Democrats in favor.

Lee’s motion called for the “full, complete, unredacted Epstein files to be delivered concurrently to the majority and minority.”

“Today, Oversight Democrats fought for transparency and accountability on the Epstein files and won. House Republicans didn’t make it easy, but the motion was finally passed to force the Department of Justice to release the Epstein files,” Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Calif.), ranking member of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, said in a statement.

An amendment to Lee’s motion from Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) to include the release of all communications between President Biden or Biden administration officials and the Department of Justice related to Jeffrey Epstein was adopted by voice vote. And an amendment from Mace to redact the names of victims and any personally identifiable information of victims, as well as any possible material depicting child abuse, was also adopted by voice vote.

WASHINGTON, July 23 (Reuters) - U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi told President Donald Trump in May that his name appeared in investigative files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday.
The disclosure about Trump's appearance in the Justice Department's case records threatened to deepen a political crisis that has engulfed his administration for weeks. Some Trump supporters for years have fanned conspiracy theories about Epstein's clients and the circumstances of his 2019 death in prison.
