With possible Iran-Israel ceasefire, Trump's high-risk strikes may pay off

US President Donald Trump took a gamble by inserting the US into the worsening conflict between Israel and Iran, but it may have paid off - at least for now.

Trump announced on Tuesday evening that the two countries had agreed to a ceasefire that he said could lead to a lasting peace.

If the American president has in fact ended what he labelled the "12 Day War", it would make for a significant step back from the brink of a conflict that seemed on the verge of engulfing the region, along with pulling America further in after US airstrikes hit Iranian nuclear facilities on Saturday.

"Provided that the Israeli regime stops its illegal aggression against the Iranian people no later than 4 am Tehran time," Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in a statement, "we have no intention to continue our response afterwards."

It may not be called a ceasefire, but as the 04:00 deadline arrived in Tehran the Israeli attacks reportedly came to a halt. The two parties appear to be on the verge of turning down the heat.

This development comes after a tumultuous day in the region, when Iran followed through on its promise to retaliate for Saturday's US strike.

Glastonbury organisers say they are "appalled" by comments made by rap punk duo Bob Vylan which called for "death" to the Israeli military during a performance on Saturday.

Rapper Bobby Vylan led chants of "free, free Palestine" and "death, death to the IDF [Israel Defense Forces]".

The festival said the statements "very much crossed a line", while antisemitism campaigners said they will formally complain to the BBC over its "outrageous decision" to broadcast the act.

A BBC spokesperson previously said some of the comments were "deeply offensive", adding it had issued a warning on screen about "very strong and discriminatory language". The set will not be available to rewatch on BBC iPlayer.

Pro-life Republican ‘nearly died’ during ectopic pregnancy amid abortion ban
>https://metro.co.uk/2025/06/24/pro-life-republican-nearly-died-ectopic-pregnancy-amid-abortion-ban-23491465/

A Republican representative who says she almost died due to her state’s abortion ban has said ‘fearmongering’ caused delayed treatment.

Representative Kat Cammack, 37, almost died last year due to an ectopic pregnancy, and said staff at the hospital were nervous to treat her for fear of criminal prosecution.

Cammack went to the hospital on May 31 last year, where it was found she had a cornual ectopic pregnancy, meaning her embryo had implanted where the fallopian tube meets the uterus.

The doctor told Cammack: ‘If this ruptures, it will kill you,’ but she decided against surgery.

The situation was complicated by the fact that Florida’s six-week abortion ban had come into effect on May 1 last year, meaning medical staff were hesitant to give her a shot of methotrexate, which was needed to end her pregnancy and save Cammack’s life.

Even though Cammack was only five weeks along, fear of prosecution from authorities against the medics was so palpable that she had to argue her case for treatment.

After finally receiving treatment, Cammack has slammed her experience, but blamed abortion rights advocates, who she claims made the hospital afraid of giving her drugs, even when it was legal to do so.

Florida’s abortion ban punishes those who violate it with five years in prison, loss of medical licenses and fines of up to $5,000.

Even though the ban did not specify prosecution for treating ectopic pregnancies, the threat of legal action against medical staff has scared many in the health field.

Cammack, who is now pregnant again, said: ‘It was absolute fearmongering at its worst.

‘There will be some comments like, ‘Well, thank God we have abortion services,’ even though what I went through wasn’t an abortion,’ she added.

ICE Bombs Innocent US Citizens' door, seemingly in retaliation for rear-ending them

Video appears to show an explosion set off by federal agents as they entered a Huntington Park home in an early morning law enforcement operation that startled a woman who was inside the house with her two young children.

The operation targeting a man who lives at the home unfolded early Friday in the 3500 block of Flower Street, where about a dozen federal agents in tactical gear could be seen on security camera video taking up positions in the front yard. Two of the agents appeared to secure something to the house's door and front window before an explosion.

Armed agents crouched behind a vehicle in the driveway entered the Huntington Park home shortly after the detonation, which blew the door off and shattered a window. A drone also can be seen entering the house.

At least one armored vehicle was parked on the street near what appears to be a Border Patrol SUV. A woman holding a young child and the hand of another emerged from the home and were escorted to the SUV.

Jenny Ramirez lives at the home with her boyfriend, who was sought by authorities, but not at the residence when Border Patrol agents arrived. Ramirez said she received a call from a neighbor telling her Border Patrol vehicles were in the neighborhood.

She said she then heard the explosion after jumping out of bed with her 1-year-old child to check on her 6-year-old.

"I just heard the loudest blast of my life," Ramirez said. "I told them, "You didn’t have to do this. You scared my son, my baby and myself.'

Trump slams Israel's prosecutors over Netanyahu corruption trial

No.1416897 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
https://www.reuters.com/world/us/trump-slams-israels-prosecutors-over-netanyahu-corruption-trial-2025-06-28/

June 28 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday lashed out at prosecutors in Israel over the corruption trial that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has faced, saying Washington, having given billions of dollars worth of aid to Israel, was not going to "stand for this".
Netanyahu was indicted in 2019 in Israel on charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust - all of which he denies. The trial began in 2020 and involves three criminal cases.

On Friday, the court rejected a request by Netanyahu's lawyers to delay his testimony for the next two weeks because of diplomatic and security matters following the 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran this month.
He is due to take the stand on Monday for cross-examination.

"It is INSANITY doing what the out-of-control prosecutors are doing to Bibi Netanyahu," Trump said in a Truth Social post, asserting that the judicial process was going to interfere with Netanyahu's ability to conduct talks with Palestinian militant group Hamas, and Iran.

A spokesperson for the Israeli prosecution declined to comment on Trump's post. Netanyahu on X retweeted Trump's post and added: "Thank you again, @realDonaldTrump. Together, we will make the Middle East Great Again!"

Trump's second post over the course of a few days defending Netanyahu and calling for the cancellation of the trial went a step further to tie Israel's legal action to U.S. aid.

"The United States of America spends Billions of Dollar [sic] a year, far more than on any other Nation, protecting and supporting Israel. We are not going to stand for this," Trump said.

Zohran Mamdani Proposes Taxing 'Whiter Neighborhoods' in NYC

New York City's Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani has said he wants to "shift the tax burden" to "richer and whiter neighborhoods" if he secures election in November.

A housing policy document on Mamdani's official website includes a pledge to "shift the tax burden from overtaxed homeowners in the outer boroughs to more expensive homes in richer and whiter neighborhoods."

Newsweek contacted the Mamdani campaign for comment via email on Friday outside of regular office hours.

What To Know
Mamdani's official campaign website features a policy memo under the title "Supporting homeowners and ending deed theft."

The document says that if elected his administration will "Shift the tax burden from overtaxed homeowners in the outer boroughs to more expensive homes in richer and whiter neighborhoods."

It adds: "The property tax system is unbalanced because assessment levels are artificially capped, so homeowners in expensive neighborhoods pay less than their fair share. The Mayor can fix this by pushing class assessment percentages down for everyone and adjusting rates up, effectively lowering tax payments for homeowners in neighborhoods like Jamaica and Brownsville while raising the amount paid in the most expensive Brooklyn brownstones."

China Issues Update After Trump Reveals Trade Deal
Published Jun 27, 2025 at 4:01 AM EDT
Updated Jun 27, 2025 at 10:30 AM EDT

China confirmed that it had folded like a lawn chair and agreed with the U.S. to approve the accelerated export of rare earths after President Donald Trump said he had signed a trade deal with Beijing, and said Washington will also lift some of its export restrictions on Beijing in return.

A spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said on Friday, June 27, that leaders of the two countries had now approved the details of the agreement.

Trump, talking about negotiating trade deals during his reciprocal tariffs pause on Thursday, said we "just signed with China yesterday."

Why It Matters
The U.S. technology and manufacturing sectors rely on a stable supply of rare earths—particularly magnets—used in electronics, defense systems, and renewable energy, and China is a key supplier.

Cementing the agreement is also progress toward stabilizing trade relations between the world's two largest economies, and a sign that the temporary tariff reductions will become permanent once other outstanding issues are resolved.

What To Know
The agreement relates to the earlier tariff-slashing U.S.-China trade talks in Geneva.

They held further talks between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, and the two sides kept talking until a deal had finally been cemented.

The Chinese commerce ministry had announced on Thursday that it was speeding up approvals of exports of rare earths.

Scott Bessent, who has been engaged in the talks with China, said the magnets will now "flow to everyone who had received them before, on a regular basis".

"What we're seeing here is a de-escalation under President Trump's leadership,"
