Booksmith, a San Francisco book store, announced it is boycotting J.K. Rowling due to her opposition of gender ideology.

In a post to Instagram earlier this month, the book store shared a photo of its children’s section with a note that states, “Are you looking for Harry Potter? In May of 2025, author JK Rowling publicly committed to using her private wealth from the Harry Potter series to develop the J.K. Rowling Women’s Fund, an organization dedicated to removing transgender rights ‘in the workplace in public life, and in protected female spaces’. With this announcement, we’ve decided to stop carrying her books. We don’t know exactly what her new ‘women’s fund’ will entail, but we that we aren’t going to be a part of it.”

“As a group of queer booklovers, we also had our adolescences shaped by wizards and elves. Look at us, it’s obvious. If you or someone you love wants to dive into the world of Harry Potter, we suggest doing so by buying used copies of these books,” the note concludes.

Trump and RFK Jr plan to kill more Americans with defunding of anti-disease group

https://www.npr.org/sections/goats-and-soda/2025/06/25/g-s1-74554/rfk-jr-vaccine-safety-gavi
The international vaccine agency, Gavi, has strongly rejected Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s accusations that it was not following scientific data on vaccines, after he said the U.S. would halt all contributions unless the body made changes to its practices.

Kennedy's remarks were made at a Gavi pledging summit in Brussels on Wednesday, where countries and philanthropies promise to deliver funds. A video of Kennedy's remarks, first reported by Politico and later posted by The New York Times, shows him praising Gavi for its mission of making medicine affordable to everyone but then pivoting to criticisms. He says the group "ignores the science" when it comes to vaccine safety and calls on Gavi to "re-earn the public trust" before the U.S. would reconsider its decision to end U.S. contributions.

Supporters of global vaccines for children are on high alert after published remarks made by Kennedy, who said the U.S. would halt its contributions to Gavi, the international vaccine alliance.

The international agency, established in 2000, says it has played a role in vaccinating 1.1 billion children against a long list of potentially debilitating diseases — from polio to malaria to mpox to measles — and claims credit for saving 20 million lives. Global health experts say Gavi is instrumental in getting vaccinations to lower-resource countries, providing cash to buy vaccines and support for disease outbreak response.

The U.S. has been one of the largest donors to Gavi, funding about 13% of the agency's budget. Under the Biden administration, the U.S. pledged $2.53 billion starting in September 2022 through the year 2030.

In a statement, Gavi said that the organization's "utmost concern is the safety and health of children" and that it rejected Kennedy's accusations that it was not following scientific data on vaccines.

Norwegian Man 'refused entry into US' as border control catch him with bald JD Vance meme

https://www.dublinlive.ie/news/world-news/man-refused-entry-us-border-31925059

A 21-year-old Norwegian tourist claims he was denied entry to the United States and harassed by ICE agents after they discovered a JD Vance meme on his phone.

Mads Mikkelsen arrived at New Jersey's Newark Airport on June 11 when he was pulled aside by border control and placed in a cell, he told Norwegian outlet Nordlys. Mads was travelling to the States to visit friends, first in New York and then in Austin, Texas, but suffered "harassment and abuse of power" at the hands of US immigration authorities.

"I felt prejudiced, suspected and simply humiliated even then, in front of many other people at the airport," The Tromsø native recounted. "They took me to a room with several armed guards, where I had to hand over my shoes, mobile phone and backpack."

Officers quizzed Mads about his visit, and his plans, before adopting a personal line of questioning. "They asked direct questions about drug smuggling, terrorist plans and right-wing extremism, completely without reason," he claimed.

"They demanded full information about everyone I was going to meet in the US, including name, address, phone number and what they did for work." Mads' mother was due to meet up with him a few weeks into his stay and the pair had planned to travel to several national parks.

"I had travelled for twelve hours, slept poorly, and was physically and mentally completely exhausted even before they started the questioning," he continued. A strenuous crackdown by U.S. Customs and Border Protection has followed President Donald Trump's return to office, with the service being allowed to search phones.

White House to limit intelligence sharing after Iran bombing leak

No.1416174 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2025/06/25/iran-intelligence-sharing-gabbard/

The White House plans to limit classified intelligence sharing with Congress after leaks to the press of an early assessment undermined President Donald Trump’s claim that U.S. airstrikes obliterated Iranian nuclear facilities, a senior Trump administration official said, setting the stage for a contentious classified briefing before senators Thursday.

Amid a political battle over what the intelligence shows, the White House is expected to send four of its top national security officials to brief lawmakers: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, CIA Director John Ratcliffe and Gen. Dan Caine, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, administration officials said.

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who testified in March that U.S. intelligence agencies assessed that Iran was not building a nuclear weapon, will be notably absent.

“Ratcliffe will represent the intelligence community,” the senior Trump administration official said of Gabbard’s absence, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss plans not yet made public. “The media is turning this into something it’s not.”

NATO chief: "daddy trump"

NATO Secretary general refers to Trump as daddy, and likes his intervention in Iran to stopping two squabbling children

NATO chief calls Trump ‘Daddy’
The quip came after Trump compared Israel and Iran to unruly children.

THE HAGUE — NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte surprised reporters Wednesday by calling President Donald Trump “Daddy,” a moment of levity in a serious NATO summit.

As the two leaders greeted each other before reporters ahead of meetings, Trump drew a question about the profanity he used a day earlier to chastise both Israel and Iran for violating a recently brokered ceasefire, and his comparing them to unruly children. “They’ve had a big fight, like two kids in a school yard. They fight like hell, you can’t stop them. Let them fight for about two, three minutes, then it’s easier to stop them,” Trump said in a press appearance alongside Rutte, echoing language he has used to describe Ukraine and Russia
Rutte took the fighting kids analogy a bit further: “Daddy has to sometimes use strong language.”

Trump didn’t seem to mind Rutte’s use of the term, which has become slang to denote power and control in relationships. “I think he likes me. ‘Daddy, you’re my daddy,’” Trump said later Wednesday with a grin, drawing laughter from the international press corps and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. “He did it very affectionately.”

The back and forth at the NATO summit showed a growing rapport between Trump and the former Dutch prime minister, now nine months into his tenure as NATO’s top diplomat. And it encapsulated Rutte’s broader approach to the president, leaning heavily into public and private flattery.

Democrat proposes tax based on skin color

Zohran Mamdani Proposes Taxing 'Whiter Neighborhoods' in NYC

New York City's Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani has said he wants to "shift the tax burden" to "richer and whiter neighborhoods" if he secures election in November.

A housing policy document on Mamdani's official website includes a pledge to "shift the tax burden from overtaxed homeowners in the outer boroughs to more expensive homes in richer and whiter neighborhoods."

Newsweek contacted the Mamdani campaign for comment via email on Friday outside of regular office hours.

What To Know
Mamdani's official campaign website features a policy memo under the title "Supporting homeowners and ending deed theft."

The document says that if elected his administration will "Shift the tax burden from overtaxed homeowners in the outer boroughs to more expensive homes in richer and whiter neighborhoods."

It adds: "The property tax system is unbalanced because assessment levels are artificially capped, so homeowners in expensive neighborhoods pay less than their fair share. The Mayor can fix this by pushing class assessment percentages down for everyone and adjusting rates up, effectively lowering tax payments for homeowners in neighborhoods like Jamaica and Brownsville while raising the amount paid in the most expensive Brooklyn brownstones."

Muskrat rocket go big "kaboom" and make elonfan cry hahahaha

SpaceX Starship upper stage explodes during countdown to engine test firing

A big rocket made by SpaceX blew up during a test on Wednesday night at their launch site in Texas. Elon Musk, the boss of SpaceX, said it might have happened because a nitrogen tank popped.

The explosion was huge! It made a giant fireball, with bright flames and smoke everywhere, and pieces flew out like a volcano shooting lava.

Something kind of like this happened before, in 2016, when another SpaceX rocket blew up in Florida while getting ready for launch. That time, it was a helium tank that broke.

But SpaceX says this new explosion isn’t the same problem.

Elon Musk said online that it looks like a nitrogen tank inside the rocket broke, even though it wasn’t supposed to. If that’s really what happened, it would be the first time ever for this kind of tank.

The rocket was almost ready to test its big engines, but it exploded right before the test. Earlier in the week, they tried just one engine, and that worked fine.

Trump fires NOAA weather forecasters, rehires them, then demands they pay money

https://www.nbcnews.com/science/science-news/fired-rehired-fired-noaa-employees-get-letters-demanding-money-rcna214755
Some former employees of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration who were fired, rehired and fired again this spring say they have received debt notices from the federal government to pay it back for health care coverage. Those workers also say the notices are for coverage they never had.

The workers say it’s the latest development in a firing process mired in confusion, poor communication and missing paperwork as they confront the most basic workplace questions.

Three former NOAA employees shared letters titled “DEMAND NOTICE FOR PAYMENT” with NBC News. The letters, dated June 16, claimed the employees owed a debt — sometimes hundreds of dollars — and that interest could be charged. The letters also warned that the debt would be reported to a credit bureau if it went unpaid.

“It’s very gloomy and threatening language,” said Sarah Cooley, who was fired as the agency’s ocean acidification program director in late February.

It’s not clear exactly how many workers who were laid off received the letter. Two former NOAA employees told NBC News they did not receive any such letter.

The notice says the charge is for health care premiums for the eighth and ninth pay periods of the year, a time when their health coverage plans had already expired, the workers said.

“They’re trying to bill me for health insurance after I was fired. I had no coverage,” said Ya’el Seid-Green, a former special assistant in NOAA’s Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research. “It’s just more salt in the wound on how incompetent all of this has been.”

Iran Admits Heavy Nuclear Damage as Israel Backs Trump

The Israel Atomic Energy Commission backed President Donald Trump's assessment of the damage done to the Iranian nuclear site at Fordow, saying the U.S. strike "destroyed the site's critical infrastructure and rendered the enrichment facility inoperable."

Separately, Esmail Baghaei, spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, told Al Jazeera that "our nuclear installations have been badly damaged, that's for sure" by the U.S. and Israeli strikes.

Trump had said the strike resulted in "total obliteration" of the Fordow facility, which is deep underground inside a mountain. That characterization was called into question by a leaked U.S. intelligence report, but the White House called the early assessment false.

We assess that the American strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities, combined with Israeli strikes on other elements of Iran's military nuclear program, has set back Iran's ability to develop nuclear weapons by many years," said the statement from the Israeli commission.

"The achievement can continue indefinitely if Iran does not get access to nuclear material."

Trump referred to the Israeli statement and the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman's comments during his press conference at the NATO summit in the Netherlands, underscoring his original assessment of the damage to Fordow.

The president lashed out at media reporting of the leaked intelligence assessment, saying the B-2 pilots who conducted the strikes had been "demeaned" in an effort to attack him politically.
